is both a state of being and a form. This design is meant to highlight the combined energy of Medicine Hat and ATB Financial. Medicine Hat with its abundance of energy sources and ATB with its energized brand contrast one another, yet when combined Medicine Hat and ATB compliment one another. Together they make a vibrant and dynamic environment.

EAST ELEVATION To become is to change, grow, or start to be. To become is to follow a path towards the future. To become something, you require potential. Potential is a driving force that pushes us towards the future. Everyone and everything has the potential to become the best possible version of themselves. Our surroundings and environment directly influence what we become and the potential we possess. Currently Medicine Hat is on a path to revitalize their downtown area. Their abundant energy supplies provides the city with plenty of potential for growth. Their plan is to ‘become’ a vibrant, more central city. They wish to preserve the history and heritage of their city and in addition make downtown Medicine Hat an

The hotels’ wide variety of amenities encourages their clients to grow and become who they are, and gives them many opportunities to discover their potential . Influx Hotels wishes to provide their clientele with a peaceful environment that gives them the comfort to be or ‘become’ who they are.

is a group of sustainable materials that allow water to pass through their surface. These materials reduce storm-water runoff while also filtering solids and pollutant from the water.
daylighting
is an architectural design technique that focuses on maximizing the amount of natural light within a building to provide effective indoor lighting during the day
low emissivity glazing
is glazing that uses a special coating designed to minimize the amount of ultraviolet and infrared light that enters the building. This glazing technology reduces the heat exchange, between the interior and exterior of a building, through glass.
living wall
is a self-sufficient vertical garden. There are various interior and exterior applications of living wall systems for buildings. Living walls have the ability to reduce the overall temperature inside a building. Additionally living walls can purify the air and remove excess carbon dioxide and any other harmful pollutants.
green roof
is a vegetative cover that enhances the aesthetic appeal of roof areas. Green roofs provide economic and ecological benefits such as: providing natural insulation, reducing storm-water runoff, and creating a natural habitat for small animals.
kebony wood
is an environmentally friendly and low maintenance wood. Kebony Technology developed a biological treatment that enhances the natural properties of sustainable softwood.
sun shades
provide protection from the sun. Sun shades allow sunlight to pass through but they diminish the amount of direct sunlight that enters a building.
solar panels
are designed to absorb sunlight and convert the light energy to electricity through the photovoltaic effect.
sustainable + low VOC materials
are materials that reduce “off-gassing of harmful pollutants. Low VOC materials are beneficial to human health because they reduce the amount of indoor air pollutants and overall help to improve indoor air quality.
geothermal heating + cooling
is a system that transfers heat to and from the ground and provides the same function of a mechanical central heating and cooling system.
greywater system
is a system that collects grey water from baths, showers, clothes washers, and lavatories. This water is filtered and reused in toilets or for irrigation systems.
low flow plumbing fixtures
are plumbing fixtures that moderate the amount of water used by various fixtures reducing the amount of waste water produced.

Concept- CONTRAST
“The relationship between people and activities can be related to the relationship between nature and cities. The stark, simplicity of cities mixed with the organic freedom of nature contrast one another in a prominent way. The interior design of the community center should embody this striking contrast. This design will include juxtaposing simple and complex forms, lines, colours, and patterns/textures throughout the community space.”

Concept- SLEEK:
The concept of sleek has been chosen for the Motherboard Computing retail store. A clean, open, organized and simple layout will transcend over the entire shop while contrasting themes will visually zone each space. Merchandise areas will exude a futuristic industrial feel while the lounge area will display an urban loft style. Smooth textures, solid colors and a uniform layout will harness the client’s desires and introduce an unconventional experience. Guests will be invited in by the promise of a virtual reality lounge, as well as an impressive display of merchandise. As a result, users will have the option to escape into virtual reality and experience the cuttingedge expanse that is Motherboard Computing. LATERAL FILES
