Garrett Reese’s story is one of redemption and success. It’s a story that has been years in the making, with many highs and lows, with strong determination to overcome and succeed despite obstacles along the way. Today his company, Halo Roofing and Restoration, is a rapidly growing company with customers that come primarily from word-of-mouth recommendations.
Garrett comes from a strong pedigree of generations of strong contractors and entrepreneurs. Yet, in 2017, Garrett found himself with almost nothing to his name. For ten years he had been tied down by an injury-induced drug addiction. When he lost his brother Scotty to an overdose, it was a major wake-up call for Garrett. “I thought I could handle it all,” says Garrett. “While I battled with addiction for ten years, I remained functional.”
A graduate of Terry High School, Garrett attended Mississippi College where he was on the Dean’s list and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. After graduating, he went to work for a fellowship-trained spine surgeon, working alongside him for medical exams, scheduling surgeries, and more. “I learned a lot about how the world works in that job.”

Garrett left the medical world to join his dad, Dennis, in business. “My dad is a contractor and was once a master mechanic. When I was growing up, if something needed fixing, we learned to fix it ourselves.”
That was a good lesson for Garrett, who learned to look at a problem and try to find a good solution. He often finds himself repeating what his dad would say: “There is always a way.”
He went to work for a roofing company, where he applied the knowledge he learned while working with his dad. “I learned a lot about roofing hands-on,” he says. “And I learned how roofing companies work.’
But after working in the medical field and with his dad, Garrett couldn’t help but think there were new technologies that weren’t being utilized in the company he worked for. “They did things the way they’d always done them, but I recognized the potential to do more.”

On a leap of faith, Garrett took a calculated risk and started Halo Roofing with a partner. The name of the company is a way for Garrett to honor his lost brother. “I started the company with a partner, and we had two offices, one in central Mississippi and one on the Coast,” he says. Garrett bought out his partner in 2022. “Starting this company has been the best decision I’ve ever made. Since we opened we have not stopped roofing.”
Garrett is joined in the company by two sales support people – Zac Clack and Drennon Horne. “They do a great job and we have a great relationship. We all have the same mindset, which is when someone calls us with a problem, we know exactly what to do to get it solved. My involvement with this company is as the owner. Ultimately, it is my responsibility to get it right. If there is a question, I’m right up on that roof to get to the bottom of any problem. I think that as a business owner, it’s important to be involved with each job.”
That’s something the REALTORS® who Halo works with appreciate. “I understand they are on a race to the finish line, and we want to help them get to closing as quickly as possible,” says Garrett. “They need a fast, comprehensive report that checks all the boxes and makes sense to everyone involved, from the agent to the customer and anyone else involved in the transaction. It also helps when a REALTOR® knows that when Halo Roofing is tasked with a problem, our representatives will show up on time, professionally dressed, and remain personable throughout the process.”

Garrett takes great pride in his company’s excellent workmanship, competitive pricing, and their ability to deliver outstanding results. Halo Roofing utilizes the best manufacturers to provide a quality roof. “We provide our customers with a wide variety of services to meet their needs. We make all our flashings and we even do custom copper fabrications. All custom metal fabrications are done in-house to ensure quality and accuracy. We also provide gutters.”

Roofing is a field that Garrett finds satisfying on many different levels. “I use scientific knowledge to diagnose issues like ventilation and how different building products react to the weather and with each other. I use my knowledge of construction daily with practical problem-solving. We just keep doing the next right thing to run an efficient business that always puts our customers first.”

Integrity and honesty are integral to the success of the company. “Since our founding, we’ve worked hard to build our reputation as a reliable and trustworthy roofing company. We would never tell someone they need a new roof when that’s just not the case. People appreciate that, and they’ll remember us when they truly do need us.”
Garrett has a constant hunger for continued education and he shares that with his team.

All crew members are trained by Garrett for at least six weeks, and they participate in two continuing education trainings each year to stay on top of the latest techniques, technology, and products available in the market. “At Halo, we all have a passion for delivering the best product and service to the customer.”

The wind beneath Garratt’s wings is his wife, Victoria, who has encouraged and supported him along the way. “We got married last year, on September 9, he says. “We dated for six years before that.” The couple spent their honeymoon in Greece, which Garrett describes as “the most beautiful place in the world.” Victoria is a nuclear medicine technologist at UMMC. The couple resides in Brandon with their two Cocker Spaniels, Winnie and Riley.
When he’s not working, Garrett enjoys music, Atlanta Braves baseball and traveling. “We have a tight circle of friends. I enjoy being around good friends and sharing experiences with them.”
