HOLE 1 PRO TIP: A drive down the right side of the fairway, just left of the fairway bunker, will leave a second shot to a big green that slopes from back to front, so leave your approach below the hole if possible. A good chance to open your round with a birdie. Ideal Line

HOLE 2 PRO TIP: An uphill tee shot aimed down the right side followed by a straightaway second shot will leave a short-iron approach to another big green that slopes from back to front. Another birdie opportunity perhaps!

HOLE 3 PRO TIP: Another tee shot where it’s best to favour the right side of the fairway, leaving a mid-iron to a green set slightly below you. The water on the left shouldn’t come into play but we cannot promise!

HOLE 4 PRO TIP: An inviting par-three where what you see is what you get! Trust the distance and commit to the shot. Don’t be taken in by how easy it looks!

HOLE 5 PRO TIP: My favourite par-five in Portugal. Aim your drive down the left and second shot down the right to set up a short-iron approach over a wellplaced front greenside bunker to a very fast green that slopes severely from back to front. Ideal Line

HOLE 6 PRO TIP: An uphill, dog-leg left, par-four. Miss the bunker on the corner and make sure you take enough club on the second shot to avoid the false front that lies in wait for any underhit approaches. Ideal Line

HOLE 7 PRO TIP: Another visible green and although the putting surface is large, aim for the middle and you won’t be too far away.

HOLE 8 PRO TIP: This dog-leg right, slightly uphill par-four requires a power fade (for the right-handed golfer) to hold a fairway that slopes from right to left. The ideal second shot should finish front left, irrespective of the pin position, to safely negotiate the uphill green that slopes from right to left. Ideal Line

HOLE 9 PRO TIP: A dog-leg left which features an inviting tee shot from a high, elevated tee. The difficulty here is the approach, which is played to a slightly raised green with another false front so make sure you take enough club. Ideal Line

HOLE 10 PRO TIP: A very tough par-four to open the back nine, which requires a good drive and a high, carrying second shot to another fast green sloping from back to front. A four here is always a great score.

HOLE 11 PRO TIP: There’s no hidden trouble here on this excellent short hole, but take into account the huge right-to-left break on the green when hitting your tee shot. Ideal Line

HOLE 12 PRO TIP: For the longer hitters, this is a risk-and-reward par-five. Cut the corner on the right and, providing you catch the strip of semi-rough which crosses the fairway, you can reach the green in two. For the normal player, drive between the bunkers, before hitting a second shot uphill followed by an approach to another sloping, back-to-front green. Ideal Line

HOLE 13 PRO TIP: A short par-four which requires a drive to the right of the left-hand bunker and a short second to an elevated green with another false front to catch any underhit approach shots. Ideal Line

HOLE 14 PRO TIP: A beautiful par-four played from an elevated tee. The water on the right is only reachable for bigger hitters and a par is always a good result on this hole. Ideal Line

HOLE 15 PRO TIP: The South Course’s signature hole for obvious reasons. Aim to the right half of the green for a shorter carry over the water. Ideal Line

HOLE 16 PRO TIP: Keep the drive to the right-hand side of the fairway. Only a long drive will allow a view of the green, which is set well below you with a lake as the beautiful backdrop.

HOLE 17 PRO TIP: A straightaway par-five but one that will live long in the memory. The ideal tee shot should be to the right half of the fairway and the second shot, if you can’t reach, should be aimed at the left-hand greenside bunker. Try to keep your third shot under the hole as anything beyond the pin leaves a very fast and tricky downhill putt. Ideal Line

HOLE 18 PRO TIP: A great finishing hole. A right-to-left tee shot is ideal as the fairway slopes the other way, leaving a longish second shot to a green that slopes from back to front.
