January 27 Sophomore forward Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) led the attack for the Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team on Friday evening against Syracuse, netting the game-winning goal and providing assists on the two additional scores, as the Bobcats skated to a 3-0 shutout victory over the nonconference opponent Orange at HighPoint Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center. Freshman goaltender Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minn.) played a superb game in net, making her first career shutout for the Bobcats, who improve to 15-9-2 overall. Syracuse falls to 8-16-3 with the loss. The Quinnipiac University women’s indoor track and field team competed at the 2012 Terrier Invitational at Boston University on Friday, Jan. 27. The Bobcats competed against student-athletes from more than two dozen colleges and universities at the Boston University Fitness & Recreation Center. January 28 The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team defeated Wagner College, 77-60, in a Northeast Conference match-up on Saturday afternoon at the TD Bank Sports Center. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 15-5 on the year and 7-2 in league action, while the Seahawks drop to 2-18 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

January 30 Freshman forward Ousmane Drame (Boston, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team has been tabbed the Choice Hotels/NEC Rookie of the Week, announced on Monday, January 30, 2012 by the league office. Drame put together two tremendous performances last week and helped the Bobcats to a 1-1 record over the three-day span. Jannuary 30 College Sports Madness has named junior guard Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.) the Northeast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the second time this season, as announced on Monday, Jan. 30.

Six Bobcats finished with double-figures on Monday night, as the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team cruised to a Northeast Conference victory over Mount St. Mary’s, 89-73, at the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats, now 16-5 overall and 8-2 in the NEC, shot a blistering 58.2 percent from the field en route to their sixth consecutive win. The Mountaineers fall to 8-13, 4-6 in league competition.

January 31 Freshman Rebecca Stabile (Haverhill, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University women’s indoor track and field team was named Northeast Conference Women’s Rookie Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday evening. Junior Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team won her third Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player of the Week honor of the year, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Quinnipiac University men’s basketball student-athlete Marquis Barnett was featured in UWANTGAME, an organization that focuses on helping studentathletes reach their potential in academics, athletics, and personal growth. Bobcats’ head coach Rand Pecknold was featured in an article written by ECAC Hockey correspondent Nate Owen. February 2 The Quinnipiac University men’s ice hockey team’s uniform will feature a commemorative “JA” patch for the remainder of the 2011-12 season. The patch is in remembrance of the late Jim Armstrong, the former head coach of the men’s ice hockey team, who passed away on Jan. 22, 2012. The patch will make its debut when the Bobcats host Harvard on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center, in an ECAC Hockey match-up to be aired live on New England Sports Network (NESN) in high definition.

Former Quinnipiac men’s soccer standout Graciano Brito ’09 has signed with the Rochester Rhinos of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) for the upcoming 2012 season, as announced by the team on Thursday, Feb. 2. Brito moves from rival USL PRO team FC New York, where he experienced a solid season for the club, tallying four goals in just 12 games.

Sophomore Ike Azotam (Boston, Mass.) completed another double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds on Thursday evening, as the Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team topped Fairleigh Dickinson, 65-48, at Stratis Arena. The Bobcats, now winners in three of their last four games, improve to 12-10 overall and 5-6 in the Northeast Conference.

The Quinnipiac University women’s indoor track team competed in the distance medley relay in the first day of Yale’s Annual Giegengack Invitational on Friday night at Coxe Cage. The Bobcats qualified for the ECAC Championships as they placed fourth in the DMR. February 4: The Quinnipiac University women’s indoor track and field team competed at the 2012 Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats’ performances were highlighted in the 1,000-meter run where sophomore Jessica Soja (Simsbury, Conn.) won with a time of 3:02.04.

In front of a sell-out crowd, of 3,208, for the third straight game at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center, the Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey team defeated Dartmouth, 2-1, for a crucial ECAC Hockey victory. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 6-6-4 in league play and 14-9-5 overall while Dartmouth drops to 6-7-3 in league play and 9-10-4 overall.

James Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) tossed in a game-high 18 points on Saturday night, as the Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team cruised to a Northeast Conference victory at Monmouth University, 71-48, at the Multipurpose Athletic Center in West Long Branch, N.J. With the win, the Bobcats have now defeated the Hawks in six straight meetings, winning five of those match-ups by double-digits.

The Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team won its seventh consecutive game as it defeated Monmouth University, 75-63, in a Northeast Conference match-up at the Multipurpose Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 17-5 overall and 9-2 in league action, while the Hawks drop to 12-10 on the year and 7-4 in conference play. February 7 Quinnipiac senior Dan Clarke (Belleville, Ontario) has been named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2012.

February 8 Three players finished with double-figures in the scoring column on Wednesday night, as the Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team cruised past intrastate rival Central Connecticut State University, 72-44, at the TD Bank Sports Center. With the win, the Bobcats leap over the Blue Devils into fifth place in the Northeast Conference standings. QU improves to 14-10 overall and 7-6 in the league, and has now defeated CCSU in six straight meetings. The Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse team has been selected to repeat as Northeast Conference Champions for the upcoming 2012 season, as announced by the League on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The Bobcats received six first-place votes, while Mount St. Mary’s (two votes), Monmouth (one vote) and Sacred Heart (one vote) garnered the remaining first-place votes.

February 9 The Quinnipiac University men’s lacrosse team has been selected to finish fourth in the 2012 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, announced by the league office on Thursday night. The NEC coaches collectively picked Mount St. Mary’s as the favorite to win the conference championship, as the Mountaineers garnered four first-place votes. February 10 Fresh off its sixth Northeast Conference Championship last year, the Quinnipiac University women’s tennis team was recently deemed the 2012 NEC Coaches’ Poll favorite, announced Friday by the league office. The Bobcats earned eight first-place votes in the census.

February 11 Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey sophomore Kellen Jones (Montrose, British Columbia) had a career-best five points, including his first career hat trick, while Loren Barron (Glendora, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal, to lead Quinnipiac to a 7-6 ECAC Hockey win at Clarkson. With the win, Quinnipiac improves to 7-7-5 in ECAC Hockey play and 15-10-5 overall while Clarkson drops to 8-7-3 in league action and 14-13-3 overall.

Junior Felicia Barron (Springfield, Mass) registered a game-high 20 points as the Quinnipiac University women’s basketball team picked up a Northeast Conference Rivalry Week win at Central Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, Bobcats improve to 18-6 overall and 10-3 in NEC action, while the Blue Devils drop to 11-13 on the year and 5-8 in league play.

February 12 The Quinnipiac University women’s indoor track and field team placed seventh after competing in the final day of the 2012 Northeast Conference Championships on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex. The Bobcats’ performances were highlighted in the 5k as junior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) won the event with a time of 17:35.50. Overall, the women
