GRADUATING FROM Quest University Canada was founded to prepare students for the 21st Century. Our unique academic program is designed to foster a lifetime of learning for our graduates by developing fully their intellectual capacities, encouraging social and civic engagement, and readying them both for work and further study. Quest students learn to be independent problem solvers by collaborating across disciplinary boundaries, engaging in hands-on experiential learning, and formulating their own Questions. Upon completing Quest’s liberal arts and sciences program, all students receive a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BA&Sc) degree. During the course of earning their Quest degrees, students acquire many transferable skills that support them in all their future endeavors, including: • Critical Thinking • Communication • Integration/Breadth of Knowledge • International Perspectives • Research • Ethics

Critical Thinking Critical thinking entails the ability to develop a sequence of arguments using linguistic, rhetorical, logical, mathematical, and other tools. It includes the evaluation of the work of others, the application of knowledge using analogy, modeling, creativity and judgement to solve problems, and reflection on one’s own performance and the steps needed to improve it. Since our classes are limited to 20 students, constant discussion and debate hone students’ abilities to express their ideas and problem solve.

COMMUNICATION Effective communication leads to the successful exchange of information and ideas. Quest graduates are capable of transmitting thoughts across a variety of media tailored to different audiences. They listen to others with respect and discernment, and know how to facilitate effective dialogue. Presentations in every class at Quest facilitate public speaking skills.

Integration/Breadth of knowledge Issues in the complex modern world demand the ability to think and work using many analytical methods, and to make connections across disciplinary boundaries. The 16 courses in our Foundation Program expose students to the Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Humanities and Mathematics. The Concentration Program enables students to explore their Question deeply through a variety of academic perspectives.

International Perspectives The world is becoming increasingly more connected. As good world citizens, Quest students respect, understand, and work with communities different from their own. At Quest, 53% of students are Canadian, 33% are from the US and 14% are from several dozen countries around the world. In this diverse community, students learn to work collaboratively and value opinions and viewpoints which arise from different cultural perspectives.

RESEARCH In a world with unprecedented access to information, good research consists of the ability to find what is relevant, assess its reliability, and process this data to reach meaningful conclusions. Knowledge is no longer about memorizing facts, but rather about how to synthesize information in new and creative ways.

ETHICS The process of articulating beliefs and values, and making responsible decisions in a reasoned manner—living the examined life—is at the heart of a sound education. Quest students deepen ethical principles through discussion and action on global issues, as well as by direct participation in initiatives within the university community.

What some of our grads are doing The versatility of a Quest education—the breadth of knowledge required, the immersive block structure, the opportunities for practical study and international experiences—prepares students both to pursue graduate programs and to enter a variety of careers.
