Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi Gloria in excelsis Deo. Et in terra pax hominibus bonĂŚ voluntatis.

Glory be to God in the highest. And in earth peace to men of good will.

Laudamus te; benedicimus te; adoramus te; glorificamus te. Gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam.

We praise Thee; we bless Thee; we worship Thee; we glorify Thee. We give thanks to Thee for Thy great glory.

Domine Deus, Rex coelestis, Deus Pater omnipotens. Domine Fili unigenite Jesu Christe. Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius Patris.

O Lord God, Heavenly King, God the Father Almighty. O Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father.

Qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis. Qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem nostram. Qui sedes ad dextram Patris, O miserere nobis.

Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of the Father, have mercy upon us.

Quoniam tu solus Sanctus, tu solus Dominus, tu solus Altissimus, Jesu Christe. Cum Sancto Spiritu in gloria Dei Patris.

For thou only art holy, thou only art the Lord, thou only art the most high, Jesus Christ. Together with the Holy Ghost in the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

Amen.

Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart INTROITUS Requiem aeternam dona ets, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ets. Te decet hymnus, Deus, in Sion, et tibi reddetur votum in Jerusalem. Exaudi orationem meam, ad te omnis caro veniet. Requiem aeternam dona ets, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ets.

INTROIT Grant them eternal rest, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine on them. Thou, O God, art praised in Sion, and unto Thee shall the vow be performed in Jerusalem. Hear my prayer, unto Thee shall all flesh come. Grant them eternal rest, 0 Lord, and may perpetual light shine on them.

KYRIE Kyrie eleison. Christe eleison. Kyrie eleison.

KYRIE Lord have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us.

SEQUENTIA Dies irae, dies illa Solvet saeclum in favilla, Teste David cum Sibylla. Quantus tremor est futurus Quando judex est venturus Cuncta stricte discussurus. Tuba mirum spargens sonum Per sepulcra regionum Coget omnes ante thronum. Mors slopebit et natora Cum resurget creatura Judicanti responsura. Liber scriptus proferetur In quo totum continetur, Unde mundus judicetur. Judex ergo cum sedebit Quidquid latet apparebit, Nil inultum remanebit. Quid sum miser tunc dicturus, Quem patronum togaturus, Cum vix justus sit securus? Rex tremendae majestatis, Qui salvandos salvas gratis, Salve me, fons pietatis. Recordare, Jesu pie, Quod sum causa tuae viae, Ne me perdas ilia die. Quaerens me sedisti lassus, Redemisti crucem passus, Tamus labor non sit cassus. Juste judex ultionis Donum fac remissionis Ante diem rationis. lngemisco tamquam reus, Culpa rubet vultus meus, Supplicanti parce, Deus. Qui Mariam absolvisti Et latronem exaudisti, Mihi quoque spem dedisti. Preces meae non sum dignae, Sed tu bonus fac benigne, Ne perenni cremet igne.

SEQUENTIA Day of wrath, that day Will dissolve the earth in ashes As David and the Sibyl bear witness. What dread there will be When the Judge shall come To judge all things strictly. A trumpet, spreading a wondrous sound Through the graves of all lands, Will drive mankind before the throne. Death and Nature shall be astonished When all creation rises again To answer to the Judge. A book, written in, will be brought forth In which is contained everything that is, Out of which the world shall be judged. When therefore the Judge takes His seat Whatever is hidden will reveal itself. Nothing will remain unavenged. What then shall 1 say, wretch that I am, What advocate entreat to speak for me, When even the righteous may hardly be secure? King of awful majesty, Who freely savest the redeemed, Save me, O fount of goodness. Remember, blessed Jesu, That I am the cause of Thy pilgrimage, Do not forsake me on that day. Seeking me Thou didst sit down weary, Thou didst redeem me, suffering death on the cross. Let not such toil be in vain. Just and avenging Judge, Grant remission Before the day of reckoning. I groan like a guilty man. Guilt reddens my face. Spare a suppliant, O God. Thou who didst absolve Mary Magdalene And didst hearken to the thief, To me also hast Thou given hope. My prayers are not worthy, But Thou in Thy merciful goodness grant That I burn not in everlasting fire.

Inter oves locurn praesta, Et ab haedis me sequestra, Statuens in parle dextra. Confutatis maledictis Flammis acribus addictis, Voca me cum benedictis. Oro supplex et acclinis, Cor contritum quasi cinis, Gere curam mei finis. Lacrimosa dies ilia Qua resurget ex favilla Judicandus homo reus. Huic ergo parce, Deus, Pie Jesu Domine, Dona els requiem.

Place me among Thy sheep And separate me from the goats, Setting me on Thy right hand. When the accursed have been confounded And given over to the bitter flames, Call me with the blessed. I pray in supplication on my knees. My heart contrite as the dust, Safeguard my fate. Mournful that day When from the dust shall rise Guilty man to be judged. Therefore spare him, O God. Merciful Jesu, Lord Grant them rest.

OFFERTORY Lord Jesus Christ, King of glory, deliver the souls of all the faithful departed from the pains of hell and from the bottomless pit. Deliver them from the lion’s mouth. Neither let them fall into darkness nor the black abyss swallow them up. And let St. Michael, Thy standard-bearer, lead them into the holy light which once Thou didst promise to Abraham and his seed. We offer unto Thee this sacrifice of prayer and praise. Receive it for those souls whom today we commemorate. Allow them, O Lord, to cross from death into the life which once Thou didst promise to Abraham and his seed.

SANCTUS Sanctus. Sanctus, Sanctus, Dominus Deus Sabaoth! Pleni suni coeli et terra gloria tua. Osanna in excelsis.

SANCTUS Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Sabaoth. Heaven and earth are full of Thy glory. Hosanna in the highest.

BENEDICTUS Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Osanna in excelsis.

BENEDICTION Blessed is He who cometh in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

AGNUS DEI Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem. Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona eis requiem sempiternam.

AGNUS DEI Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, grant them rest. Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, grant them everlasting rest.

COMMUNIO Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine, cum sanctis mis in aeternum, quia pius es. Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis, cum sanetis tuis in aeternum, quia plus es.

COMMUNION May eternal light shine on them, O Lord. with Thy saints for ever, because Thou art merciful. Grant the dead eternal rest, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine on them, with Thy saints for ever, because Thou are merciful.

OSQ STUDENT CHORAL PROGRAM The Program Students are awarded a scholarship to become part of the chorus for one year (students will be re-evaluated annually to renew their scholarship). All expenses – dues, music, tutorial assistance and access to master classes taught by professional singers – are covered by OSQ. Students will rehearse weekly with the chorus (September through May) and perform in two concerts accompanied by a professional orchestra. Requirements Students must be full-time high school or college students in good academic standing, with a sincere interest in learning and performing choral music consisting of classical sacred music such as Handel’s “Messiah,” Mozart’s “Requiem,” Beethoven’s “Hallelujah” (Mount of Olives), holiday music and American spirituals and popular music. Students are required to have an audition to determine their voice range and placement within the chorus. Students must provide a short statement about their interest in choral singing, their past musical experience and their plans to continue to incorporate music into their adult lives. Interested? Learn more about the Oratorio Society of Queens and the Choral Scholarship Program by going to our website, www.QueensOratorio.org. Download, complete and forward the application for admission.

Today’s concert is being performed in celebration and remembrance of the life of

MADELINE HURSTER (1925 – 2017) OSQ’s First Legacy Listener At OSQ, we knew what Madeline Hurster meant to us. She was a faithful fan who lived in Flushing. She attended all our concerts and made an annual donation to OSQ. She was the type of person who has helped sustain OSQ over our 92-year history. When OSQ was named as a beneficiary to Ms. Hurster’s Estate, we came to know what OSQ meant to her. We are honored; we are grateful. Ms. Hurster’s dear friend, Virginia Stroberg, shares that Madeline loved OSQ and the music we made. She was especially happy to see that we were encouraging the education and participation of local young adults through our Student Choral Program. She wanted us to know we shared the same dream—a commitment to the education of young adults, to our next generation of choral singers. Education is a part of OSQ’s mission and was a central part of Madeline’s life’s work. Ms. Hurster was a retired Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Physical Education at Queens College. She was a lover of music and had a great singing voice. Madeline enjoyed traveling extensively with friends and was physically active throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed skiing and hiking. We extend abundant thanks to Madeline Hurster—for her work educating and advising young adults in Queens, for being a faithful audience member and fan of OSQ, and for her important gift to our organization—for endowing our shared dream of education and becoming OSQ’s first Legacy Listener.
