Queensland Sports Car Championship The sixth and final round of the Queensland Sports Car Championship brings to a close a hard fought battle between several drivers. During the year, we have seen an average of 14 cars on the grid for each of the six rounds. Next year promises to be bigger and better with indications being that in excess of 20 cars will be taking part in the six round series. Leading the points table for the first 3 rounds this year, Alex Kenny has dropped back to 8th place over all following his dramatic roll over at Lakeside Park. At the top of the points table for class A is Dave Barram [#46 Chiron] who has 346 points to his credit. Still in class A is Phil Holzberger [#81 Radical SR8] with 262 points accumulated so far. In spite of his accident at Lakeside, Alex Kenny is still in 3rd place with 236 points. Simon Cilento [#33 Radical SR8] could cause an upset for that 3rd spot unless Alex can produce the form that we are accustomed to seeing from him. In class B, we have the ever consistent Grant Green [#10 Radical SR3] with a points haul of 434 so far, followed by Neville McKay [# 88 Mallock Mk2] holding onto second in class B with 346 points. Matt Vanderburg [# 77 Minetti ZZ1] would have gained more points had it not been for an injury sustained at work which prevented him running in round 5. Matt has 260 points in the bank. Brian Pettit [#117 Minetti SSV1] is not far behind on points with 220. Class C has been dominated this year by rookie Dave Rodgie [ #23 JMW] who has added 406 points to his name while Richard Croston [ #57 Mallock Mk8] has 348 points for second place in the chase for points. Peter Hill [ # 02 ADR] has only recently acquired the ADR to replace the ageing Bulant. Peter has 120

points to his name. With 20 points up for grabs for a win in either of the 5 races this weekend, it will be critical to get home to see the chequered flag. Adding even more intrigue to the points allocation is the qualification bonus points being added to the racing points. To encourage entrants to make the effort to prepare and present their car, bonus points will be added on the basis of 6 points per round if you qualified for all six rounds, 5 points for each round if you qualified for 5 rounds and so on to 1 round when you would get just 1 bonus point. This has the potential to change the final points tally and could be a game changer for the “Keven Bartlett Perpetual Trophy which will be awarded to the highest point scorer at the conclusion of this weekend. Group N Relive the racing era of the 60’s and 70’s with Group N Historic Touring Cars this weekend. Group N originated with the vehicles called the Appendix J. Appendix J were vehicles from the early to mid 60’s. Many were driven to the track, raced and driven home. In later years this group became known as Na and Nb. Na is represented by production touring cars available prior to 31st December 1957. Nb is represented by production type vehicles prior to 31st December 1964. Later on another class was added that called Nc. This is for vehicles that competed between 1st January 1965 and 31st December 1972. Our group accommodates a wide variety of cars that raced back in the late 1950s to the early 1970s. This is the final round of the Black Trucks – Isuzu Ute Qld Cup. With a 4 way battle for the championship there is sure to be some close racing. Don’t miss the opportunity to come and have a picture taken with these iconic cars.

Keema Excel Cup Welcome to round 8 of the 2016 Keema Excel Cup, supported by Dunlop. 3-time champ Brett Parrish and John McLaughlin are both in the hunt, with round 7 winner John Sheridan in third with a chance of grabbing the win only if both the leaders were to put themselves out. Another multiple race winner Cam Wilson sits in 4th so like every round in season 2016, we are looking fowad to some cracking racing. Michael Tuckwood, Dan Peasey, Matt Ross and Maxim Erickson, all young guns, make up the next 4 spots after each had one round where they scored little points. All however are capable of taking it to the top 4 and will be right in the hunt for a round win. The Excel Cup is run over 8 rounds at Queensland Raceway and Lakeside Park. It is designed to be low cost, and perfect for entry level right through to experienced racers. Cars are quite standard however there is some freedoms which allow learning how to tune suspension and get the most out of reconditioning high km engines. The racing is tight and tough, but with driving standard rules at both tracks written for recreational motorsport, there is now just the odd rub, bump and dint, all of which brings fields of 25 or more to each round of the series. MX5 Challenge

Prodsports Queensland, in partnership with our category sponsor Wellpro were so impressed by the response to the first mx-5 challenge at Lakeside, that we thought we would keep the party going. The second event for the year moves to Queensland Raceway and the number of first time racers is very encouraging. Distinct from any College style frat house hazing, or naval equator crossing shameful induction, the mx-5 racers are a welcoming bunch. Rookies, typically those transitioning from sprinting to racing are invited to join in the fun, minus the binge drinking and locker room theatrics. The seasoned veterans will be on hand to offer advice and wisdom where required. As per the previous round, the categories are based on lap time brackets set on the national circuit. Do a faster time at any point and you end up in the quicker category for the weekend. Class A Sub 1.24 Class B 1.24 < 1.27 Class C 1.27< 1.30 Class D 1.30+ There is a wide range of vehicle and driver performance on show, and those that may think the mx-5 is all about coaxing an under powered car to a tidy lap will be in for a surprise when last time winner Brendan Whittaker goes head to head with Brian Ferrabee. The arms race between these guys in the past 12 months has escalated with the turbo charged monsters testing their drivetrains and pushing well below the 1.20 second barrier. A showcase event this may be, but it is not being treated as a dead rubber by any of the regular Prodsports championship competitors. Tim Wallace and Paul Ansell have both been

dogged by reliability issues all year, but have been on the pace against Tony Ross, Greg Quince, Angelo Servodio, James Hay, and relative newcomer Shane "iceman" Freese. Lisa Montgomerie's times are also tumbling and her car has plenty of pace to be in the thick of the action. Freese was one of the fastest aspirated Mazdas on track at the most recent event here at QR and this has not gone unnoticed. Freese was previously head mechanic to Servodio's Phat Wheels and tyres race team, and now racing his own car has sent his former boss into a mad scramble for horsepower. Tony Bonnano returns and will take the fight to Henri VanRoden, Tim Janke, David Smith and Shane Plohl. Jaime Patullo, Francois Siebrits and Sonke Hatje will be certain to test their off track friendship as they seek to out race each other for chequered flag glory. Adam Shipway and Ross Ponting will be joined by Greg Schweikert, Grant Watson and Julian Greenwood as first time door to door racers making the transition from sprinting. A fantastic weekend of racing and comradery is expected in what we hope to grow into bigger and better events in 2017. The Toyota 86 vs MX-5 challenge perhaps‌‌.
