Welcome It’s a great privilege to be welcomed so warmly to the Longreach region and experience this community. Griffith University is proud to partner with Queensland Symphony Orchestra to present Orchestral Luminescence. Griffith University is proud to be supporting the next generation of artists through Griffith Film School, Queensland Conservatorium and the Queensland College of Art, all part of our bustling South Bank campus. Our reach isn’t limited to the campuses. We participate in major events such as Brisbane Art and Design Festival, Bleach Festival, Brisbane Writers Festival, Brisbane International Film Festival, and Brisbane Festival, giving our students access to industry experiences. In addition, our partnerships with arts organisations such as Queensland Theatre, Queensland Ballet, Opera Queensland and Queensland Performing Arts Centre, provide students with the comprehensive skills and flexibility required when they join the creative and performing arts communities across Australia. Tonight, we’re excited to extend that reach even further to bring a taste of all we can do to regional Queensland. We hope this event will be like nothing you have ever seen before! Gothic Floss by Justene Williams (Queensland College of Art) Expect to be astounded by the sights and sounds of this performance. The renowned artist Justene Williams brings an adaptation of A Metal Cry, titled Gothic Floss, which investigates the ways in which we communicate non-verbally. The performers tell a story through movements and dance, while the costumes make unusual sounds themselves, causing the performer to move in otherwise irregular ways. We are excited that five dancers from the Longreach School of Dance will be part of this performance.

Creating, Connecting and Inspiring! (Griffith Film School) Enjoy a celebration of the Griffith Film School spirit as we screen three student productions from the last five years. We are proud to be screening stories that share the unique voices of those that created them, and that highlight the exceptional talent of our students.

Louder Than Words (drama): A young, talented drummer is restricted from playing in her school band simply because she is deaf. Lost Contact (documentary): Feeling like he comes from another planet, Aldo searches for meaning in the esoteric and for connection with people who understand him. Ostrich (animation): A young call centre employee uncovers the flaws in his stop motion universe with the help of a mysterious talking ostrich.
