Queensland Ballet acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we train and perform. Long before we arrived on this land, it played host to the dance expression of our First Nations Peoples. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging, and acknowledge the valuable contribution they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
In Queensland Ballet’s 65th anniversary year, we use the tantalising magic of ballet to transport audiences on a journey of iconic masterpieces, world premieres, and a carefully curated mix of established and emerging Australian and international choreographic talent. Season 2025 is a celebration of all-encompassing ballet narratives inspired by the classic literature of Shakespeare, Choderlos de Laclos, Andersen and Hoffmann, infused with programs that will feature fresh choreographic voices and eclectic music.
Our Season begins at QPAC’s Lyric Theatre in March with one for the romantics. We are incredibly excited to present one of our most spectacular productions – Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo & Juliet , brought to life with passionate choreography, stunning costumes and sets, and Prokofiev’s iconic score performed by Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
Queensland Ballet’s commitment to touring our great state continues in 2025. We love visiting our vibrant communities and, following its popular Brisbane season in 2024, we are thrilled to tour Coppélia to Toowoomba and Cairns! We can’t wait to get on the road and see you there.
In June and July, our Triple Bill features three creatives who are well-known to Queensland audiences – Natalie Weir, Jack Lister and Greg Horsman. This beautiful program includes Weir’s 4Seasons with music by Vivaldi and Richter, a world premiere by Lister featuring Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 From the New World re-composed by Louis Frere-Harvey, and Horsman’s A Rhapsody in Motion performed to Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini , Op. 43, with all works accompanied by Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra.
Our My First Ballet series is always incredibly popular with families and children, so we’ve included not one but two audience favourites! Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf was originally composed as an introduction to the orchestra for children, but in this gorgeous, reimagined version by Greg Horsman, join Peter and his Scout friends on their adventure to the zoo.
Meanwhile, Paul Boyd’s retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid follows the familiar tale of a daring young mermaid heroine who falls in love with a human Prince.
Three choreographers, three world premieres: in July and August, Bespoke returns with a fresh season of compelling contemporary dance. Our Bespoke season has created 21 new works since its inception in 2017 and for Season 2025 we have invited Amelia Waller, Yolande Brown, and Robert Binet to create three new works for this dynamic annual program.
August brings you the chance to witness the rising stars of dance with our Queensland Ballet Academy Gala . A sell-out season in 2024, this special event celebrates a program of elegant classical ballet, vibrant neo-classical and contemporary works, all performed by our accomplished young dancers of Queensland Ballet Academy.
Dangerous Liaisons is a narrative ballet masterpiece. This decadent work for mature audiences was created on our dancers in 2019 by international choreographer and Queensland Ballet’s Artistic Associate from 2016 — 2021, Liam Scarlett. The story, inspired by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’s classic novel, tells of a complex web of intertwined characters that unravel in a story of seduction, revenge and betrayal.
Since 2013, December has meant The Nutcracker to us – the magical holiday tradition so loved by Brisbane. Inspired by the writing of E.T.A. Hoffmann and the music of Tchaikovsky, Season 2025 will be your very last chance to see Ben Stevenson OBE’s cherished version accompanied by Queensland Symphony Orchestra at QPAC’s Lyric Theatre.
Love, seduction, wonder and joy – Season 2025 is one for lovers of stories, music, and ballet.

THE SHOW DETAILS
Kenneth MacMillan’s romantic masterpiece returns to set hearts alight. Shakespeare’s legendary tale takes us to Renaissance Italy where a young star-crossed couple fall in love on the streets of fair Verona.
