What is Folkestone Fun Palace?

On 4 & 5 October 2014 over 100 Fun Palaces will pop up across the UK and globally, celebrating the vision of a very special woman called Joan Littlewood, who had radical ideas in the 1960’s about what culture is and who it is for. Fun Palaces is a campaign for culture that everyone can join – combining arts and sciences, welcoming and free, at the heart of our communities. Folkestone Quarterhouse and Folkestone Fringe are working together to host a Fun Palace… From Giant Origami to fort building to science experiments and knitting, there will be something for everyone. And best of all, EVERYTHING IS FREE! Here is a taster of what will be on offer on Sunday 5th October at Quarterhouse and the Folkestone Fringe Harbour Hub… Movement workshop, Japanese storytelling workshop, Learn to sing session, Improv Gym, Animation Consequences, Fort Building and Camp Fire, How to fossilise a hamster and other crazy experiments, Board Game Challenge, Giant weaving, Learn to knit, Clothes swap, Drawing Club, Trigger Sound Installation, a happiness bank and more!

How do I find out more? Google ‘Folkestone Fun Palace’ and press the red button called ‘subscribe to this Fun Palace’ to get regular updates of our activity. That’s where we will publish the full programme of events, make a programme available to download and open up links to sign up for workshops that have a limited capacity, so get on it! Follow the hashtag #FolkFunPalace on the @Quarterhouse_UK and @FStoneFringe twitter accounts and facebook pages. And to find out what’s going on nationwide, follow @FunPalaces If you’re interested in helping to make the day happen, email us at info@quarterhouse.co.uk to join in. Looking forward to seeing you on the 5th October! The Folkestone Fun Palaceers x
