Welcome to our Autumn Season

A vibrant, touching, and timely story about love, statelessness, and above all the human capacity to endure. Brought to you from the innovative company behind Invisible, 1001 Nights, Elegy and Europe.

A fantastical tale of love in exile. Critically acclaimed Transport reinvents this popular favourite among Shakespeare’s comedies. Rosalind, the daughter of an exiled leader, falls in love with Orlando. Separately the two are banished from their homeland by Rosalind’s dictator uncle. In the wild depths of the forest they find unexpected freedom and are reunited with friends and family.

UK Touring Theatre Directed by Denis Noonan

The multi award winning Sell A Door Theatre Company presents an exciting new musical starring Keith Jack, charting the turbulent events that haunt some of literature’s most cherished characters.

Saturday 5 October, 7.30pm Tickets £8.50 / £7.50 concessions Suitable for age 14+ Running time 90 mins approx, no interval

Trapped in a mundane existence and struggling to sustain his family, the daydreamer Kenneth Grahame longed to write wild adventure tales, and pursue his love of nature and literature. Then one day a stranger tried to put a bullet through his head, and Grahame was never the same again...

Following sell-out performances this Spring, UK Touring Theatre continue their highly acclaimed national tour of Strindberg’s classic play – a tale of lust, class conflict and boundaries broken. Midsummer’s Eve, Sweden, 1888. While the servants’ party continues in the barn outside, aristocratic Miss Julie is drawn to the kitchen and to the socially ambitious Jean, her father’s valet. What starts as a harmless flirtation, soon descends into a ferocious power struggle and battle of the sexes, from which neither can escape.

Keith Jack was a runner up on BBC’s Any Dream Will Do and has since been seen by over 2 million people on tour, playing the lead in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He has also been seen in the new musical Only The Brave and his solo album, Keith Jack – This Time, was a UK Chart Top 40 success.

The Shakespeare Schools Festival works with 1000 secondary, primary and special schools all over the UK, making it possible for them to stage abridged Shakespeare productions in their local professional theatre.

In Zachary’s class, everyone is interesting – except Zachary. His hair sits quite fine. His teeth are aligned. His lines are expected, and his specs nonexistent. So Zachary grumps (as Zachary does) and shouts against his normalness.

Each night four schools will perform four different Shakespeare plays. Come along and celebrate the achievements of your local schools in a wonderful evening of entertainment.

To which his mum replies: ‘But that is just normal for here’. And she reminds him of all the other places – filled with giants, and miniatures, and hairy things, and flying things – places where Zachary would not be normal at all. And so he sets out… to stand out.

The scene of the crime is a slow train to Berlin. It is where young Emil, travelling alone, falls asleep and is robbed of all his money. The chief suspect is the man in the bowler hat, but how to catch the thief? It calls for quick wits, a cool head and some clever detective work. So begins the great adventure. Join Emil as he teams up with a gang of young sleuths who lead a hair raising chase across Berlin to catch a dirty rotten thief.

Quarterhouse is delighted to welcome the UK’s largest Youth Drama Festival to our stage on October 17th.

Join PoetryJoe, star of CBeebie’s Rhyme Rocket, performer, writer and – of course! – poet, in his light-up, pop-up world of fabulous foods, beastly bugs and peculiar pets. Armed with his trusty overhead projector and the props, pop-ups and pictures of John O’Leary, PoetryJoe introduces children and their families to lots of new friends, including a naughty but nice hamster, a cheating cheetah, and a whole family made out of paper and light. The PoetryJoe Show is a fun-packed, interactive family show suitable for 3 years and up, incorporating elements of magic lantern, shadow puppetry and live poetry. Take part in the fun and learn how to make your very own poems that glow.

Every child in every school ought to have the chance to experience this magical process Philip Pullman, SSF patron The audience reaction to our Macbeth was wonderful. Our narrator, Ben, even told me that it was the best experience of his life – you can’t really get much better than that! Primary School Teacher

“I really enjoyed joining in with the poems I will definitely tell friends.” ”Brilliant, my 4 year old loved it!”

Climb aboard this madcap pursuit through the streets of 1930’s Berlin, a classic adventure that is a fun-packed thriller with bags of energy.

Grumpy 7 year-old Zachary is fed up with feeling average and journeys into a surreal and entrancing world to discover what makes him special. A host of hilarious characters combine with international award-winning writer Finegan Kruckemeyer’s trademark sharp dialogue in this unique twist on an adventure tale.

Emil is a wonder... Read it and you will be happy Maurice Sendak

Alternately hilarious and deeply moving, audiences both young and old will love joining the furious Zachary in his desperate quest to discover difference.

“We had a great time & loved the parts about the bugs the most. Fantastic.”

Dave Kelly – his guitar and voice – great talent, great depth, and a real sense of his roots Time Out

One of the great bands to emerge from the late ’70s, Nine Below Zero deliver a rip-roaring blend of blues and R&B. Now in their 36th year, they are just as vibrant and unpredictably brilliant as ever and remain one of the most popular live bands in the UK.

Focus

From The Jam

With their unique progressive rock, Focus manifested themselves at the start of the 70s as the most successful and appreciated of all the Dutch rock exports. After an initial comeback with the well received album “Focus 8”, the band are now back with a fantastic line-up!

These are the words of The Pigeon Detectives singer Matt Bowman, speaking as his band have just completed the recording of their fourth album, ‘We Met At Sea’. Now they are set to embark on a UK tour and will be returning to Folkestone this November. You might remember them playing last year which became one of our best, and sweatiest gigs ever.

“We’re a live band. That’s where we cut our teeth, that’s where we’re most comfortable, that’s where we have the most fun. That’s where we made our name.”

This is a show not to be missed and is sure to be a highlight of our Autumn calendar. 11

Fresh from a record-breaking season of shows at London’s Soho Theatre and a critically acclaimed total sell-out season at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, South African comedian, Trevor Noah is proud to present his critically acclaimed show, The Racist, on a ground-breaking tour of the UK.

The Lie-In King

The Racist

Star of Channel 4’s ‘Stand Up For The Week’, BBC1’s ‘Live At The Apollo’ and Dave’s ‘Argumental’, Seann is a charming and charismatic natural born observational storyteller, and one of the most frighteningly precocious talents to emerge from the UK comedy circuit in years.

Trevor has been performing for a little over five years but his explosion onto the South African entertainment scene has been nothing short of meteoric, taking on TV, radio and his first love, stand up comedy, which he has performed on both local and international stages. His sharp wit, intelligent commentary, unmistakable charm and clinical delivery have established him as an extremely popular performer with undoubted world-class potential.
