Qu Art Brussels | public art design introduction

概况 Overview

Qu Art established in 2001 by John Heinz, It’s specialized in modern and contemporary art. Its collection includes a broad range of original works from artists of different contries.

John Heinz is the person responsible for Qu Art’s collection of Dali sculptures. He has always loved his emblematic character of 20th century art, remembering that at 13 he had a poster of one of works of the Catalan master hanging over his bed. What a boon to be able to meet him in 1979. Another encounter, with Rober Descharnes, laid the basis for a friendship that would guide John Heinz through Dali’s mysteries for twenty years. He appreciates the less-known aspect of Salvador Dali’s work: the splendor of the three-dimensional. Like Picasso, whom he admired, Dali had a polymorphous approach.

Today, Qu Art holds the rights to eight sculptures plus two objects, and has contact with Dali Foundation in Figueras for sculpture works. This collection of sculptures perfectly illustrates Dali’s insatiable creative drive and his total mastery of passing from an object to an invention, a drawing, a painting or a sculpture. The Qu Art collection includes two angels- one surrealistic and the other cubist, a Twisted Christ, an Otorhinological Head of Venus, a Zootrope Model, a sculptural object called Sublime moment, a Night table and a head of Beethoven.

“My work comes from a place where art, science, nature and the human spirit meet. Our world is fascinating at every level, from microscopic organisms to the galaxy that surrounds us. I am becoming more and more aware of what the native American Indians always knew- that all things are connected. This work is the product of my continual explorations of the spiritual and physical world around me.

Carole Eisner

A painter and a sculptor, Eisner has worked with scrap and recycled metal for 40 years, creating elegant, abstract forms welded in steel. The artist's twisted and curved sculptures reflect the surprising malleability she finds with metal. Eisner's larger-than-life works and small scale sculptures are ideal for public exhibition, and, indeed, have been exhibited in dozens of public parks, corporate plazas, cultural centers, museums and waterfronts all along the northeast corridor in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Florida, as well as in Belgium and France. Eisner's longevity as an artist - she has had over 20 solo shows and 20 group shows - is a testament to the mass appeal of her work and the natural marriage between her sculptures and the climate of public spaces. Eisner is represented in private, public and corporate collections, including the Guggenheim, and has been written up in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Who's Who in American Art, Vogue and New York Newsday. She was born and raised in the Bronx, and received a BFA from Syracuse University. Eisner is a life-long New Yorker, who splits her time between New York City and Weston, Connecticut. She is married to Richard Eisner, and together they stay busy with five children and a dozen grandchildren. Sculptures

About this artist …

Arne Quinze Arne Quinze was born in 1971 in Belgium and lives and works in Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium. In the eighties he began working as a graffiti artist but he never finished an official art education. Quinze creates large and small sculptures, drawings, paintings, and large-scale installations. Smaller works, sketches, and drawings are the basis and research for his large installations. Recurring fundamentals in his oeuvre are the use of multiple types of wood, including salvaged wood; electrical colors in fluorescent paint; and themes referring to social interaction, communication, and urbanism. Since a while he's doing research towards large steel installations. What drives Quinze is the belief in the possible realization of an idealistic society where all individuals communicate and interact, aiming to bring people together and push them into a vigorous dialogue. In his urban vision, communal activities flourish and social cohesion is the norm. His installations are built to provoke reaction and to intervene in the daily life of passersby confronted with his sculptures.

His unconventional public installations have challenged perceptions in the city centers of Belgium (Cityscape, The Sequence), Germany (The Traveller), France (Camille, Rock Strangers), Lebanon (The Visitor), China (Red Beacon) and the USA (Uchronia, Timegate), among others. In every culture Quinze comes across, he unravels physical processes, drawing inspiration for his oeuvre, and is fueled by overwhelming optimism. Every new creative breed captures his research and study on interaction, and urban movement expressing the continuously evolution of human beings and their surroundings. Besides building architectural sculptures, he creates complex art pieces and video installations inscribing his vision in society of how people see themselves and society. Works as Bidonvilles, Stilt houses, Chaos and My Home My House My Stilt house M Safe Garden have been shown on several exhibitions.

In 2008, Arne Quinze created a 12m high and 20m wide wooden architectural construction called 'The Traveller', displayed at the occasion of the opening of the new Louis Vuitton store in Munich. Quinze invite us to a journey, an enigmatic travel through this masterpiece of which roads leads us to a world of emotion and inspiration. 'The Traveller' catches vibes, like a seismograph, rendering visibility to the unbridled energy that forms the essence of everything.

Cities like open-air museums

"Cities like open-air museums, sounds like realizing my ultimate dream; a confrontation with the public surrounded by art every day. Art has a positive effect on human beings and their personal development; it can extend their horizon and can broaden their view."

Positive effect

A flood of people

The economic value monumental art can realize for a city must not be underestimated. A flood of people is literally drawn towards the city because people have a desperate desire to explore the electrifying sculpture: they stay there for a while, eat and drink, offering great potential for the area. Through confrontation between city and sculptures people rediscover their city as well as renewed belief they‘re proud of their urban space. Artists absolutely must go out on the streets to evoke confrontation. Museums and cultural institutIons can only benefit from this urban action.

Patrick O'Reilly was born in 1957 in Kilkenny, a small town in Ireland. At the age of 17 he studied at the Art College of Belfast, but left after on year. He then decided to pursue his own artistic route, as he had been doing since childhood, by drawing and making objects. The first exhibition of his work took place in 1996 at the Galway Arts Festival. He previously thought his works were not worth being seen and was nervous showing them. Since then, his extraorinary work has been shaking up the world of fine art. He has not stopped creating three dimensional works. He has exhibuted througout Ireland, England, and Europe with major solo exhibitions in Dublin, Belfast, Berlin, London, Paris, Athens, Vienna, Brussels, Montreal, Marseilles and China. Driven by a sacred obligations, he expresses himself with total freedom and is a great power of creation. From mixed media to bronze, from bronze to a new high tech modeling materials regardless of the medium he uses, his sculptures are touching us deeply. You cannot stay unconcerned about these sculptural works. They are not the vehicle of philosophical thoughts or experiences, they reflect, in avery personal way, the feelings and emotions of Patrick O'Reilly who is always looking for new visual languages. This unique blend gives a kind of magic to his works which do not fall in any formal category.
