Greetings from Quaker Valley, It is with great pride and excitement that we share with you the remarkable accomplishments and progress achieved by the Quaker Valley School District in the last year and our ongoing commitment to providing an unparalleled educational experience for our students. This year, our staff has adopted the theme “Shine On,” and we are thrilled to show you in the coming pages all the ways the District is SHINING! In 2023, Quaker Valley once again achieved outstanding recognition, both locally and nationally. We are proud to announce that our schools have maintained their high academic standards, resulting in impressive local and national rankings. The US News and World Report named Quaker Valley High School 10th in the Pittsburgh Region out of 137 high schools. Niche.com named Quaker Valley School District the 8th best district in the Pittsburgh Area and 25th in Pennsylvania. Additionally, The Pittsburgh Business Times released its 2023 School Guide in May, and Quaker Valley improved its ranking to 8th in the regional school district rankings. These accolades are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, staff, and administrators. Together, we continue to raise the bar for educational excellence in our community by engaging our students with exemplary curriculum and a caring staff who go above and beyond for our students. One of the most exciting developments in our district is the progress we are making in the design and preparation for the construction of our new high school. This project is a significant milestone for our community, and it represents our commitment to providing a modern, state-of-the-art facility that will enhance the learning experiences of our students for the next 100 years. We are working diligently with architects, engineers, and our local municipalities to ensure that this new high school will be safe and accessible for everyone, meet the needs of our students, and promote academic excellence. Our next steps in the coming months leading up to breaking ground include presenting our submissions to the Leetsdale Borough and Leet Township Planning Commissions, hiring a construction manager, and opening the bidding process. None of these achievements would be possible without the continued support and partnership of our community members, parents, and local businesses. Your unwavering support motivates us to strive for excellence every day, and we are deeply grateful for your trust in us. As we look ahead to the future, we remain committed to our mission of providing a fiscally-responsible, world-class education that empowers our students to design their best futures. We invite you to join us on this exciting journey as we work together to “Shine On” as a community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to you for your contributions to our district’s success. Your investment in education makes our community stronger, and we are honored to serve as stewards of your trust.
Very truly yours,
Tammy A. Andreyko, Ed. D. Superintendent of Schools

“I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with a talented, dedicated, and diverse team of QVSD administrators, faculty, staff and directors during my decade on the Board,” said Board Treasurer Jeffrey Watters. “We have done our best to lead through a series of unprecedented challenges while remaining focused on serving the interests of current and future generations of this community’s children.” “I believe that the Quaker Valley School District is a powerful testament to the adage that ‘communities that invest in education prosper,’” he continued. “And while I acknowledge that the cost of underwriting the ‘QV Difference’ is not cheap, as a long-time taxpayer and father of three young adults I believe the return on that investment justifies the spend. I look forward to supporting the continued good work of this district from my seat on the sidelines in the years to come.” Marna Blackmer, an eight-year member of the Quaker Valley School Board and Board Vice President, also received recognition for her years of service. She was presented with a certificate adding her to the PSBA Honor Roll of School Board Service. “It has been my pleasure to serve this community for the past eight years as a Quaker Valley School Board member and to have served as Board Vice President for the last three years. I will miss spending my Tuesday evenings with this incredible group of community members who volunteer to come together, put politics aside and work collaboratively with the District to provide students with an incredible education,” said Blackmer. “I appreciate that we have such thoughtful, supportive, and dedicated teachers, administrators, and staff. Having grown up in this district and having raised three children of my own here, I know just how special it is to live in and be part of the Quaker Valley community.” Lena Hannah, a representative of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association shared, “The consummate school directors are described as ethical, principled, individuals with a deep desire to serve. They believe in the value of our public schools and local control of public education for the benefit of all students.”

Quaker Valley Middle School designated an Apple Distinguished School Quaker Valley Middle School was recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for the 2023–2026 program term. Apple Distinguished Schools are recognized as some of the most innovative in the world. They’re centers of leadership and educational excellence, with a clear vision for how technology-rich environments support learning goals. “Being named an Apple Distinguished School is a tremendous honor and a testament to the hard work of our educators, staff, and students. We are dedicated to leveraging technology to enhance teaching and learning, and this recognition validates our commitment to preparing our students for success in a rapidly changing world.” – Dr. Anthony Mooney, QVMS Principal “We are thrilled to be recognized by Apple as a Distinguished School! We are very fortunate to be able to provide students and staff with multiple technological resources that have become an integral part of how we teach, learn, create and innovate.” – Mrs. Katy Chapman, QVMS Assistant Principal “It’s time that our teachers and students were recognized for their hard work in making QVMS a center of leadership and educational excellence.” – Mr. Kieran Vora, QVMS Instructional Technology Specialist “Here at QVMS, technology is a fundamental part of almost everything that we do. It is not just some shiny toy that sits unused. Rather, iPads, robotics kits, and all the technology tools that we make available to students add to the instruction and curriculum that we have been developing and improving for years. That leads to new opportunities for students to work with one another and connect to what they’re learning.” – Mr. Tom Forrest, QVMS Library Media Specialist “This recognition is a true testament to our ongoing commitment to providing students with a high-quality educational experience where students can gain knowledge and develop skills to be successful in our world.” – Mrs. Karyn Dobda, Director of Innovation and Strategic Initiatives
Project Lead the Way At Quaker Valley Middle School, students have the unique opportunity to participate in an Engineering/STEM course offered through Project Lead the Way, a nonprofit organization which develops STEM curriculum to be implemented in grades 6-12. This program empowers young minds to become future innovators and problem solvers by engaging them in hands-on projects that tackle real-world challenges. One outstanding example of this learning is the design and engineering of therapeutic toys for children with disabilities, which is the culmination of their learning throughout the course. This initiative not only fosters creativity and technical skills but also instills empathy and compassion in students as they work to create solutions that improve the lives of others. “PLTW has revolutionized the way we approach STEM education in our 6th grade Engineering and Design course. It has proven to be highly effective in preparing our students for the challenges of the 21st century. PLTW has inspired our students to explore and excel in science, technology, engineering, and math. The program integrates real-world challenges into the classroom setting, allowing students to apply their learning to authentic projects and develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.” — Dr. Anthony Mooney, Quaker Valley Middle School Principal Throughout the Engineering/STEM course, students are not only encouraged to develop their technical skills but are also exposed to various career paths. They gain valuable insights into the design process, which includes problem identification, brainstorming, prototyping, and testing. Furthermore, students explore the importance of teamwork, communication, and critical thinking as they collaborate on projects. This hands-on learning experience equips them with essential soft skills that will serve them well in their academic and professional journeys. “I try to be intentional about creating an inclusive environment that supports a diverse population to provide the most positive classroom experience for all students. I utilize the Career Connections part of each lesson to help combat stereotypes about who can be engineers, computer scientists, etc. and strategically integrate these articles so that everyone has a chance to see themselves in these fields. PLTW helps to engage students by providing many great links to real-world experiences and careers from a wide variety of personal and professional backgrounds.” — Mr. Joe Prosdicimo, Quaker Valley Middle School Teacher In the Quaker Valley Middle School Engineering/STEM course, students discover the profound impact that their innovations can have on the world. By engaging in projects like designing therapeutic toys for children with disabilities, they not only gain a deeper understanding of the principles of engineering and technology but also learn the power of empathy, creativity, and the joy of making a positive difference in the lives of others. This course not only prepares students for future careers in STEM fields but also cultivates a sense of social responsibility and a passion for innovation that will undoubtedly shape their futures. In the 2023-2024 school year, the Project Lead the Way offerings at Quaker Valley Middle School have expanded to include Flight and Space, a 9-week course offered to seventh graders where they design, prototype, and test models to learn about the science of flight and what it takes to travel and live in space.
