Rat L Traps. Targets: Windy shore lines, timber grass. White Bass (Bar Fish): Toledo Bend. What on: Chrome Rat L Traps, Spinner baits. Targets: Flats with stumps and grass. Stripers: Toledo Bend, Teche’-Patterson, Red River (Marksville). What on: Crankbaits, Traps, spinnerbaits, swim/paddle baits. Targets: Points, drop offs, edges of flats, and grass off deep water points. Look for aggressive surface action. Gar: Where: Anywhere in fresh water. What on: Shinny lures, shallow running crankbaits, spinnerbaits, worms, Rat L Traps (chrm/blue). Targets: Cypress trees in knees, logs, scattered grass, windy points. Saltwater: What: Reds/Specs. Where: Delcambre Canal, Marsh Island, Burns Point, Avery Canal, Rockefeller, White Lake, Big Lake (Lake Charles). Lake Pontchartrain, and now more and more areas east and west of the Mississippi River. With the continued fall of the Atchafalaya River inland areas (marshes) are producing reds, specs, shrimp and crabs. One of the keys is locating some sort of grass. Rigs in the 10 - 20 mile range continue producing fish. Baits/Lures: Coakers, shrimp, crab, spinner jigs, buzz baits, cacaho minnows, tout tails (white/red, white/chartreuse, pumpkin/chartreuse, blue/chartreuse, purple/chartreuse and of course - Electric Chicken. A red or gold jig head with a spinner harness attached will produce bites.) In Case You Didn’t Know: The Atchafalaya Basin continues to fall and is providing good to excellent locations to catch fish. Even with all the rains, the Basin is smiling upon us. Toledo Bend is still low and many launch sites will not allow you to launch your boat. Call before going to make sure you will be able to put your boat in the lake. The lake is turned on, but the hazards of all the stump fields are extremely dangerous. Be careful and IDLE everywhere you go. Stumps are unforgiving.
