01 Threshold Urban Bridge Design

Instructor:Wenjia Zhang Academic:2019 Location:Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China Individual work

With the polarization of urban wealth and the development of urban enclosure of rural areas, more and more urban villages have emerged in cities, and class faults have emerged between urban and urban villages. The design goal is to create an spatial justice. The village in the city has both material and cultural heritage and rural life style. In the high-rise buildings, people hope to return to the most simple life; the city has a wealth of public space and cultural awareness, which is the cultural resources that can be shared by the villagers in the city. But such culture and desire are cut apart between buildings.

After a day off, people are coming home from work .

COUNTRY SIDE Mom, I bought the dishes back.

This building is a growing building, through a number of activities to participate in the experience of people from all walks of life, to achieve equal communication, while growing with the building. First of all, cultivation and cultivation, part of the grain planted can be suspended on the pole weathered into another form of food, and suspended grain has become the decoration of the building. Other cultivated grains can be sold directly or made into fresh juice. People can participate in the whole process of plant growth to production and marketing. When people are more involved in architecture, the meaning of this building will enter people's minds.

02 Underground Tension Metro Station Design

Instructors : James Craig & Matt Ozga-Lawn Academic:2020 Location:Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China Individual work

This project is about everyday life. Since the outbreak, people's lives around the world have been dramatically affected. I came back to Guangzhou, China in November and lived a different life during the epidemic. For China, although the epidemic is not as serious as it was at the beginning of the outbreak, the aftereffects of the epidemic are still affecting people. You can still see people's vigilance and fear from people's eyes. I try to start from the body experience to find the tension and blank hidden behind my daily life. I try to find out what is really changed by people's activities during the epidemic from the things that people are used to in their daily life. These trivial points can just reflect the great changes of things.

The site is located in Tonghe subway station, Baiyun District, Guangzhou, China. It is located in the suburb. The subway station is next to an urban road. It is almost surrounded by the village in the city, a product of the rapid development of Chinese cities. The identity of the surrounding personnel is complex, the management is chaotic, the population is large, and the whole subway station is in a chaotic state.

Stream of people - Before Epidemic & During Epidemic

This map records people's walking routes and the number of people walking in the same period of time. The picture on the left is recorded inside the subway station, while the two pictures on the right are the crowds surrounding the subway station. The data were obtained from interviews around the venue and online news records. The number of people passing through in the same period of time during the epidemic is less than that before the outbreak, and people's walking route during the epidemic is more regular than that during the outbreak.

After epidemic

Study of the Infrared Thermometer 1 This is a study that reflects the problems - "People's sense of touch is deprived, and communication between people depends more on vision" People stand in the dark space and look out through a long cube. Then focus the image through a square vision. There are some silicone bubbles over there, and there will be a pressure sensor underneath, and there will has ink. When people step on it, the ink will come out and print on the translucent material.

Study of the Infrared Thermometer 2 Through the disassembly of the temperature detector in the previous figure, the analysis of the figure of people's walking route and the number of people walking in the same period of time when the epidemic did not occur and during the time when the epidemic occurred is related, so as to draw this figure. The body temperature detector and subway station are regarded as objects with similar influence, and the function of human flow is equivalent to battery, which is the power of the whole mechanism.

2. Second Step. Erecting scaffolding. Re- intergrate the new spatial form.

1. First Step: Remove the original structure, including the grounds and some of the column.

I try to describe a story that people around the site’s metro station come to the station one day, everything set as usual. But when it look closer, he amazingly finds that a module hospital set in metro station. In some way, i try to merge these drawing together. Aim to achieve a monumental space , and reflecting the tension...Connect the whole site with the tension behind it.

This drawing shows the different part and sequence of how the project built. It can demonstrate the construction of each part clearly.

03 Land of Idyllic Beauty Reconstruction of Fishing Village

Instructor:Wenjia Zhang Xiaojing Chen Academic:2019 Location:Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China Team work

This is the last fishing village in Guangzhou. It is declining and disappearing. Vitality of villages will be revitalized by means of transformation space and industrial transformation.

The site is located in New Village of Fishermen in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China. The village is on the Pearl River. Most of the villagers are fishermen, depending on fishing and farming for a living, mainly fishing. The weather in Lingnan is hot and humid, and the fishermen's life here is closely related to the climate and the tide of the Pearl River.

Commercial Street

Story of the Peach Blossom Valley Site

The fishermen's new village is situated near the river, and is 600 meters away from Huangpu Gugang Commercial Street, a nearby cultural site renovation. Huangpu Gugang Commercial Street is a lively and commercial place. When visitors arrive at Gugang Commercial Street, they need to go through a long field path surrounded by banana trees and pastures to reach this fishing village, which will give people a sense of openness. This is very similar to the scenes of Peach Blossom Source in ancient Chinese poetry.

Four pictures show the life and architecture of the village. The first picture is about a bridge over the river not far from the village. The bridge is in a state of suspension and semi-abandonment. The second three or four pictures are about the rebuilding of the shield which is made up of the working conditions of the people above and various scrap steel plates. They are used to isolate four people's space.

The outward platform is prototyped by the village's unique steel and steel trestle, forming a small pier for each family to berth their own boats. At the same time, people can go out and enjoy the scenery by the river one day through this platform.

Chaos in ship management is a major problem in this area. The extended platform gives the vessel a centralized berthing position. In terms of shape selection, circles can berth more vessels than other shapes. The large area of flat land on the big platform gave the villagers a place to gather and hold a bonfire banquet and so on.

The connecting staircase between the renovated boats and the houses on land in Linjiang is a characteristic space of the village. We have reserved this space, but we have transformed it. Before the renovation, the functions of boats and houses on land overlapped relatively. The boats undertook the functions of living and working, and the houses undertook the functions of resting and banqueting guests. After the renovation, the boats on the river were transformed into foreign-operated shops, such as the commercial functions and temporary resting functions of traditional cultural fisheries in villages, and the houses on land assumed the functions of daily life.

The water level of rivers is constantly changing. The chart shows the changes of the water level of the Pearl River in one day and one year, respectively. The annual water level of the Pearl River is the highest from May to August, with the highest fluctuation exceeding 3.4 meters (the water level of Guangzhou Port is 0 meters). Within a day, the water level also changed considerably, with fluctuations of about 2 meters. The profile shows the relationship between the platform plate and human activity and water level at different water level heights.

04 Artificial Nature Based on Danxia Landform

Instructor:Andy Zheng Yuntao Xu Academic:2019 Location:Ordos, Inner Mongolia Individual work

In the background of the later human era, based on the natural causes of Danxia landform, the known architectural forms are combined with the possible artificial natural environment in the future. As a perceptual and autonomous object, buildings not only interact with the existing society and environment, but also create their own culture and environment. Beyond the conventional thinking of architecture as a steady-state structure, architecture may also show distinct forms and functions in different time and space intervals.

Architectural forms with the background of the later human era link the known architectural forms with the unknown artificial natural environment that may appear in the future. As a perceptual and autonomous object, buildings not only interact with the existing society and environment, but also create their own culture and environment. Beyond the conventional thinking of architecture as a steady-state structure, architecture may also show distinct forms and functions in different time and space intervals.

Site Location The site is located in Suancigou Township, Dongsheng District, Ordos Mining Area. The site has the same natural environment as Danxia landform. Under the background of the post-human era, non-renewable energy such as coal is exhausted in Jiangbei, and coal mines and other places of origin will be abandoned and become industrial heritage. It will be necessary and interesting to build an exhibition hall on the site to display the Industrial Relics of the old times.

BDGR (Wind Tower) is a traditional passive air conditioning structure for buildings. Throughout the Middle East, from Pakistan to North Africa, this ancient building element is everywhere. In construction and design, wind towers display different geographical features, but they all perform similar functions: use the vents on the roof to lead the prevailing wind to long ducts, providing ventilation and cooling air all the way down to the room below. Wind capturing towers have been built in many parts of Iran, mainly for houses in hot and arid areas.

Stone layers on the ground are constantly eroded. When the erosion goes to a certain extent, the surface is eroded and a space is created underground. In the underground space, the form of the tube becomes longer and extends different functions and spaces in different shapes of the tube. 05 Anti High-rise Hotel

Hotel Design

Instructor:Wenjia Zhang Wuyun Jiang Academic:2019 Location:Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China Teamwork

This is an anti-high-rise building. With the intensification of China's modernization process, when people gather more and more in high-rise buildings, this building also gives people more ground space.

At the same time, it is also a boundary building dealing with campus space and urban space, which meets the basic functions while maintaining the circulation and openness of space.

How to Anti High-Rise

The ground is open to people, and the activities of the people around the site contribute to the function of the hotel. Some are taking pictures, some are walking, some are selling fruit at a stall, some are passing by, some are talking under trees, some are reading, some are exercising.

06 False Truth Remapping the Neo-Avant-Garde

Instructors : Nathaniel Coleman Academic: 2019 Location: Como, Italy Individual work

This project is about exploring neo-avant-garde in the real world nowadays. Through building relationship between the void behindCasa del Fascio attempting and the reality, the project attempt to reveal Fascism and its side and at the war where Mussolini died.

Historical Map of Como

Fascism relies on ideology, tending towards utopia."George Mackeller

Fascism exists as an ideology, which operates through the specific spiritual mechanism of eliminating all opposition opinions in order to maintain its certainty and the so-called purity of mind. When doubts and objections are banished, it is a binding act - the mind is no longer complex. Slogans, symbols, aphorisms and so on fill in the gaps in order. Ideology freezes order. The fascist movement made certain changes in the psychological behavior and inner order of followers.

After experiencing the war and a series of terrible scenes of war, Terragni returned to Como and tried to realize his own design in different political backgrounds, which was opposed by many fascist authorities. Terragni advocated the protection of historical district, linking the past with the present in the design, and tried to eliminate the class embodied in the architecture.

These two rooms represent the Utopia promised by fascist earlier and the power trap hidden behind the discourse. Conclusion: Although the perception and content of the whole space are obvious, the

At the end of his life, Terragni showed his repentance for his actions in the war in his own way.

The black-and-white image in the upper left corner was kept in Como's video gallery. The image shows that the fascists burned down the historical area which Terragni intended to protect in the late period. I transformed this behavior into images and model representations, including burning charcoal and destroying it.
