Leadership update I believe in the quote from Pastor John Maxwell when he says: “Leadership is taking responsibility while others are making excuses.” It has been an incredibly busy quarter. The markets for QPSE’s customers are moving so rapidly, we can only expect the increasing need to rapidly respond to this existing condition by adding Value. To say we cannot react quickly or cost pressure prohibits us from being profitable, is making excuses while competitors are coming up with answers. With that being said, each of us at QPSE has done extremely well in taking ownership over resolutions that have made us all malleable to achieve the challenges we have encountered. Leadership is not necessarily a hierarchy, but taking ownership over the challenges. When Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team’s General Manager Sam Presti gathered his staff together and gave everyone a baseball featuring the Thunder logo. Presti’s message was, “Keep your eye on the ball.” As an organization, we cannot feel sorry for ourselves when we face adversity that is out of our control. Our ability to pivot and be a high value solution in our market is what propels us to LEAD in our market. Despite what is going on out there in the busy, hectic, and sometimes disappointing world of the industry, we need to remember to hold our heads high, stay focused, and keep our eye on the ball show leadership. Within the last year, the rest of the industry was in a downturn. QPSE was on the evening news as a feature company that was hiring. We entered the downstream market a year before Quanta bought a downstream construction company. We have gone from an unknown in 2016, to a leading midstream gas processing provider in late 2017. Your Leadership at QPSE continues to evolve us as an industry leader by taking responsibility and not making excuses!! From your ownership of responsibility, GREAT THINGS NOT ONLY WILL HAPPEN, THEY HAVE HAPPENED!!

cybersecurity Cyberattacks to industrial control systems (ICS) are rapidly increasing and pose a significant threat to the oil and gas industry. Many are familiar with the Stuxnet cyberattack against Iran in 2007 that disabled centrifuges and derailed their nuclear program. More recently in 2015, a German steel mill experienced a significant fire after safety systems were disabled, and Ukraine suffered the first documented customer power outage directly caused by a cyberattack. These three incidents are in no way comprehensive, but do underscore the growing impact of cyberattacks on ICS and the potentially catastrophic outcomes. Industrial control systems (ICS) are technologies and systems that monitor and control the actual operation of physical equipment and plant process automation and production– including hydrocarbon refineries and electrical power systems. These systems are becoming more prevalent online, more virtualized in many cases, and therefore more remotely accessible – sometimes by cybercriminals. This alarming trend is why QPSE is entering the cybersecurity services arena to protect current and future customers. To that end, QPSE is partnering with Revolutionary Security, an industry leader in cybersecurity. The team of experienced experts at both QPSE and Revolutionary Security are joining forces to deliver more value to their clients in the oil and gas industry. Bringing together industry leaders in the fields of engineering and cyber means cybersecurity services and solutions will be tailored to the oil and gas industry. Revolutionary Security was formed when the core team, together since 2008, left one of the largest defense contractors and established a team of professionals focused on strategically defending enterprises from advanced cyberattacks. The full range of cybersecurity services to be offered in this emerging QPSE practice are: • • • • • • •

Maurepas Pipeline, LLC Subsidiary of semgroup
QPSE is providing engineering, procurement, environmental permitting and construction services for three pipelines; a 34mile, 6-inch olefins pipeline, a 36-mile, 12-inch vacuum gas oil (VGO) pipeline, and a 34-mile, 24-inch crude oil pipeline. The pipelines will traverse parts of St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, and Ascension Parishes in Louisiana. Each line is concrete coated for much of its length. The project also includes three new pump stations; one new pump station for each pipeline. The pipelines run to existing refineries and their design includes appropriate pigging facilities, mainline valves and horizontal directional drills.

A New Leaf Foundation
Blooming Acres As experts in horticulture as a means of training adults with developmental disabilities (including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders) to work, A New Leaf is taking a groundbreaking approach to solving systemic problems of poor health and unemployment among individuals with developmental disabilities and a lack of fresh produce in our community with an innovative and unique farm to provide fresh produce to our community. A New Leaf’s Blooming Acres, (Where Inclusion Comes to Thrive) is a three acre thriving farm operated by individuals with developmental disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Community members can purchase a share of the growing season(s). In return, the consumer receives fresh, local produce on a weekly basis delivered by clients at A New Leaf. Blooming Acres will also provide crops each season to nonprofits serving in identified “food deserts” in the Tulsa community. Through this program, members of the Tulsa community will be able to receive fresh produce all while creating opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to earn a wage and lead meaningful, joyful lives in Tulsa. A New Leaf is excited to collaborate with Tulsans for this new and innovative approach to providing fresh produce to our community while employing adults with developmental disabilities. QPSE partners with A New Leaf Foundation by sponsoring a corporate share of the Blooming Acres program. This year, A New Leaf Foundation has donated nearly 1,000 pounds of produce to area food banks! QPSE also supports a New Leaf is by hosting seasonal plant sales at our corporate office, in Tulsa. Our employees and other Exchange Center tenants enjoy quality, seasonal plants and the Foundation and its participants gain experience, sales and exposure. We challenge you to look for opportunities to give non-profit organizations in your area a new avenue to promote great things in your communities!

Tulsa pipe liners club
Keynote speaker On Monday, September 11th, QPSE’s VP of Canadian Operations, Neil Anderson, was the key note speaker for the Pipe Liner’s Club of Tulsa’s monthly meeting. The Pipe Liner’s Club of Tulsa serves as the leading business association for members of the Oil and Gas Pipeline Industry. Their purpose is to advance pipeline engineering and operation practices for the mutual benefit of the members and the Industry. Neil spoke to a full house of industry peers on the Tallgrass REX Zone 3 Project’s successful tie-in of 4 stations to the 42-inch cross country gas transmission mainline. The tie-in required the blowdown of several segments of the line and working around the clock in a 7-day outage.
Fall safety Fall is here again and with it, fall leaves. While the colorful leaves are beautiful to look at, they are a pain to get out of gutters, not to mention that task is a dangerous task to fulfill. While cleaning out those gutters this fall, it is important to be careful and watchful so you can avoid making careless mistakes. Falls account for many fatalities, and deaths from falls should be totally preventable. Fatalities and serious injuries can occur from falling off a roof to falling off your front doorstep. It is extremely important to be cautious while doing activities where falls could occur. Here are some important tips to remember fall prevention: Do NOT put yourself at risk for a fall. Before you begin a task, think through the situation, identify all fall hazards, and take action so you don’t fall. Understand which tasks and situations require fall protection. Examples include: • Ladders • Stairs • Holes in floors • Roof Work Work behind a fixed barrier when possible. Guard rails are a good example. Always inspect your fall protection equipment before each use. Make sure the material isn’t worn or damaged. If you follow these simple rules and always remain aware of your surroundings, falls should be completely avoidable. Everyone have a safe and happy fall and remember, never stand on either of the top two steps of a ladder!

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT QPSE is proud to present Eli Weyen with the 3rd quarter Employee Highlight Award. Mr. Weyen, a proud alumnus from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, is employed with QPSE as our Pipeline and Gas Processing Developing Manager. Eli specializes in engaging prospective clients, current clients, and previous clients in order to foster relationships that lead to projects and backlog.

While not at QPSE, Eli is a KC-135 Tanker Pilot of the 465th squadron of the 507th Air Refueling Wing (ARW) of the United States Air Force (based out of the Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City), where he has been stationed since May of 2011. The 507th Air Refueling Wing is the largest Air Force Reserve Command flying unit in the state of Oklahoma. The 507th ARW performs daily missions for both local and worldwide support of the Air Mobility Command and US Strategic Command’s National emergency war
As an Air Force Tanker Pilot, Eli served overseas supporting operations in Afghanistan, and he currently continues to serve on a weekly basis flying KC-135s one to two times a week. In addition, Eli plans and prepares for missions; reviews mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information; supervises mission planning, preparation, and filing of flight plans; and crew briefing. He also ensures that the aircraft is preflighted, inspected, loaded, equipped, and manned for mission. On September 14, 21 civilians, including Jeff Thetge and Jeff Whelan, were invited to attend the 507th Air Refueling Wing’s Reserve Citizen Airmen KC-135 flight to view the aerial refueling of 6 F-16s. At this fully catered training event flight, Eli presented QPSE’s presidents with a day in the life of what he, and other United States Air Force pilots, experience. Outside of work and the Air Force, Eli likes to spend his time with his wife and daughter and working on vehicles. Eli recently built a shop on his personal property in order to work on and repair classic cars. Some of the vehicles Eli owns are mostly Dodge and Chrysler vehicles, such as a Roadrunner, Challenger, and Coronet, to name a few.

At the DUG Midcontinent Conference, September 19-21, 2017, in Oklahoma City, QPSE sponsored a special keynote session for conference attendees and college football fans. The 3-day conference at the Oklahoma City COX Convention Center ended with a special treat: insights from legendary University of Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops. It was Bob’s first public speaking appearance since he retired in June. Coach Stoops reviewed the college football landscape and shared tales from his lively and successful career.

Not only was it a great networking opportunity, but QPSE’s participation helped raise the total $2.9M for the Andeavor Foundation, formerly known as the Tesoro Foundation, whose mission is to create cleaner, safer, and well-educated communities where Andeavor operates. In 2016, through the generosity of Tesoro’s valued business partners such as QPSE, a record-breaking $2.5 million was raised. It’s that time of year again, everyone. It’s time to say hello to food, family, goodies, and gifts, and goodbye to thick wallets and skinny jeans. While that latter part is troubling to many, there are still ways to fill that void during the upcoming holiday months: helping the planet by celebrating Green style! While you’re busy trekking store isles for the latest and greatest in holiday gifts and decorations, take a look at these easy and affordable tips on how you can help the planet (and your wallet) by going Green! • • •

Go Local! Not only is it supportive of your community, but it helps the environment by getting rid of traveling costs used by people driving all over to find that perfect gift that, let’s face it, will be buried in the closet by February. Cutting traveling costs reduces greenhouse emissions and global warming. Gift Giving! Choose gifts that require no batteries or rechargeable batteries. Look online or in your local stores and find gifts that are made completely out of recycled goods. Or, look in to gifts that require little to NO packaging, such as concert tickets, gift cards, or homemade treats. Holiday Cards and Paper! Instead of buying new stationery sets of Santa Clause in a NY Mets outfit, try reusing your leftover holiday cards from the previous year(s). Nobody ever sends out all of them, so just save yourself some money (and paper usage) and hold on to them for keep’s sake. The same goes for wrapping paper. Just reuse what you didn’t the year before. If you tend to go a bit crazy on the gift wrapping, maybe this year you could try gift wrapping that is made entirely out of recycled paper. Decorations! Even if you’re not Martha Stewart, you can get creative and make your own holiday wreaths and decorations simply by looking at items laying around your house. Find some clothes pins and some glitter and you’ve got yourself a snowflake! Trees! This may be a new idea for some, but there are trees that you can actually rent these days. This means no more tree burning at the end of the season, which always seemed too macabre. Now you can rent trees or purchase one that can be replanted once the holiday season is over. Some communities also perform chipping services so that once you’re done with your tree, the chips can be used for mulching and grading. Also, don’t forget that there is such a thing as recyclable fake trees. Lights! Cut down the amount of lights you use for your displays this year or, if you’re too much like Clark Griswold, try using LED lights for indoor and outdoor festivities. And like with all lights, don’t forget to turn them off at nighttime or when you’re leaving your home!
The holidays are enjoyable and stressing at the same time. Going Green to celebrate these next few months doesn’t have to be hard or nerve wracking. Just an attempt to follow some of these quick and simple ideas, is a huge jump start in the right direction. And as always, check the internet to find even more Green tips and share your newly found wealth of knowledge with your colleagues and friends. Have a happy holiday, everyone!
