A través de los años, he tenido la oportunidad de conocer el trabajo de gente creativa, talentosa y profesional, a quienes decidí invitar a formar parte de este nuevo proyecto. Thank You God! Those are the words that come from my heart right now, since I am very excited to introduce to all of you, the new magazine Quinces Portafolios. Many of you probably know my work and know that my passion is photography and I love everything that has to do with weddings, fashion shows and 15-birthday-parties, because they are special events that always leave us with unforgettable memories. Throughout the years, I’ve had the opportunity to come across the work of creative, talented and professional people that I decided to invite to join this new project. My main goal is to show the work of each one of them in a completely genuine and creative way, so that other people will know their work for what it is, an art indeed . In this magazine, you will get to know several of the best photographers in the state, excellent makeup artists, hair stylists, and other artists from the world of beauty and social events. ola, mi nombre es Mónica Figueroa y tengo 15 años. Nací y crecí en Scottsdale, Arizona. Actualmente estoy asistiendo a Coronado High School, donde tomo todas clases de honor y juego voleibol y fútbol. Me describo como una chica atlética, competitiva, social y perseverante. Una de mis metas es graduarme dentro del 5% con promedios más grandes de mi clase, ir a la universidad y obtener un Doctorado. Quiero agradecer a esta revista por hacer un trabajo increíble con las fotos y videos de esta portada, también quiero agradecer a mis amigos y familiares por su apoyo y sobre todo a Dios por guiarme en todo lo que he hecho.

I’m currently attending Coronado High School, where I take all honor classes and I play Volleyball and Varsity soccer. I describe myself as very athletic, competitive, social and perseverant. One of my goals is to graduate in the top 5% of my graduating class, go to college and earn a Doctoral Degree.

A well-groomed brow will open eyes up like nothing else. The most fastidious makeup artists know the power of the well-kept brow. Make sure they are well groomed, not over-tweezed or undertweezed. Most professional makeup artists don’t ac- tually wear a lot of makeup, but their brows are religiously wellkept!
Let’s face it. We can’t all be like Rachel Bilson or Angelina Jolie with large, beautiful doe eyes. But that doesn’t mean we can’t try!. According to the pros, there are plenty of tricks you can use to make your clients’ eyes appear larger.

Use individual eye lash curlers. This is a big insider tip among well-known makeup artists. Individual eye lash curlers look like the size of tweezers, but they have a small, flat but curved area that curl a few lashes at a time. They’re excellent for those unruly corners!

Create “eye-lights.” Light up the inner corners of eyes and just above brow bone with a highlighter. Using reflective or lighter tones in these areas will make eyes immediately appear bigger and brighter.

Thick around the middle. Apply eyeliner a bit thicker right in the middle of the eye. Make sure the line ‘dissolves’ or gets thinner to the outer corners and then blends in to the eye line. Just that smidge of dimension can make eyes appear bigger.

Lighten your load. Using light and shimmery colors on the lid will create a much brighter look!

Mind the water line. Using lighter eyeliners or shadows near the white of the eye, or the water line, will produce a much brighter, bigger eye. Don’t use powdered shadows in water line, and work with tones in beige, nude and white to open the eyes up.

Cover it up. Conceal darker areas under the eyes with a medium tone versus a bright or light concealer. A deeper tone helps reduce blueness associated with ‘bags.’ Just remember, the deep tone should not be darker than the skin tone!

Instead of dark, go bright! If you love the drama but feel like black liner makes eyes look smaller, you’re right! Try using a brighter color on the top of the eye line then use black or brown on the bottom (or the other way around).

Use the ball of the eye as a guide. This sounds so obvious, but referring to the eye structure is always a safe bet. Keeping the majority of the color around the natural eye shape will help make sure you don’t ‘close down the lid’ with too many colors. Make lips the focal point. When all else fails, use a diversion tactic. It may seem weird, but this trick—drawing attention away from the eyes—is a perfect concealer of small eyes.

esde que me case deseaba que mi primer bebé fuera una niña, pero Dios me envió primero tres hombres; eso hizo crecer más mi deseo de ser madre de una niña. La llegada de Vanessa fué un hermoso regalo después de tanto esperar. Desde que era una niña pequeña hablábamos del día en que ella cumpliera sus quince años. Sabía que sería un gran día para toda la familia. Llegado el momento en comenzar a planear su fiesta, le ofrecí a Vanessa otras opciones para intercambiar su fiesta, tal como un carro o un viaje lo cual no acepto; diciéndome que un carro algún día lo tendría cuando necesitara manejar, y respecto al viaje que habría muchos momentos para hacerlo, pero que la celebración de sus quince años sólo se podría hacer una sóla vez en la vida. Es cuando comprendí que el enorme deseo de tener su fiesta de quince años era verdadero y fué entonces cuando comenzamos a planear su evento.

Fueron momentos de mucha convivencia con ella y compartiendo ideas y escogiendo todo. Llegando el día hubo muchos momentos de emoción al ver cuánta familia estuvo dispuesta a venir desde lejos para acompañarnos y lo más importante, fué al ver a Vanessa hermosa y contenta, como siempre lo había imaginado. Aún después de más de un año de su fiesta, siento que sus quince años no terminan debido a sus variadas participaciones como modelo, luciendo vestidos de quinceañeras para tiendas locales. Mi experiencia como madre de una quinceañera a sido mejor que lo que pensé que viviría con ella; ya que es la etapa más bonita de la juventud. Considero que todo este tipo de participaciones tanto en certámenes como en expos hacen crecer la autoestima de las niñas, las hacen más seguras y a sentir confianza en ellas mismas. A la par, les ayuda a comenzar nuevas amistadas con las niñas que forman estos grupos donde conviven para la organización de los eventos. Al igual que para mi ha sido una gran experiencia el comenzar una amistad con muchas de las mamás de estas niñas.
Yo recomiendo a todas las madres a que se informen, de eventos locales en los cuales sus hijas pueden participar, verán la gran experiencia que significa apoyar a nuestros hijas.
