theopportunity Many students find a European sustainable education experience to be a real catalyst in their lives; opening their minds to the many real possibilities for a sustainable future, and in finding a sense of direction for their future careers. They can also find it very difficult, in getting their first foot on the employment ladder. While youth employment is a major challenge, we also need to mobilise our people and skills, like never before, in meeting the challenges of the 21st century. Coupled with this, students may find their European learning experience can be all too brief. A good number express a desire to return, and to find suitable work/project experience within a European context – to enable the practical side of their education to become more complete, and to offer potential employers even greater benefits of their skills and experience. Employers, likewise, can find it difficult to find the best recruits, with the right skills, to help their sustainability projects deliver the best impact. This initiative provides access to a pool of very bright and motivated students that will have already undergone leading-edge sustainability training – hungry to make a real difference.

mobilising people and skills – to make a real difference

Having mentored and supported students on an informal basis, during the last two semesters, it seems like there is a real opportunity here – to offer a bespoke internship/mentoring program – for the most capable and motivated students – and, to help inspire and train tomorrow’s sustainability leaders. howitworks We are selecting the best candidates from universities in the United States – based on ability and motivation – aiming for careers in helping the transition towards a more sustainable future. You will be participating in a unique ten-week summer internship and mentoring program, gaining valuable sustainability-related work experience with a leading European organisation. Internship roles are secured within a network of suitably aligned participating organisations – drawn from NGOs, think-tanks, consultancies, corporations, small businesses and universities. They all have one thing in common – they are all driving the sustainability agenda in Northern Europe and Scandinavia. The program will involve an orientation week, including master classes and expert guest lectures, designed to help you enhance your insights and capabilities – exploring sustainability challenges and solutions within business organisations, developing sustainability leadership, and how to develop sustainability business cases and change programs. You will then be in great shape to make the most of your internship opportunity. Your placement will also incorporate a live project, providing benefits to your employer, yourself, and your home university. Regular coaching and mentoring with senior sustainability practitioners is included throughout the placement. Remote support is available in case of any issues or emergencies.

fees&costs We recognise this Program represents an important step towards your ideal career, in supporting the transition towards a more sustainable world. We aim to provide you with a great placement and the means and support to make the most of this opportunity. There is an upfront investment, but we aim for each placement to be at least cost-neutral, as you earn income with your internship employer. But, the overriding principle is that our Program should add considerable value, while not adding to your financial burden as a student. What is included? • Unique matchmaking service: Finding your ideal sustainability internship. • Orientation week: Master classes, guest lectures, accommodation, group socials. • Access to high calibre, one-to-one mentoring and coaching throughout your placement. • Remote support: Throughout your placement. • Final project presentation session, accommodation and farewell dinner. Not included: Flights, placement accommodation and living costs. We also want to ensure that our Program is open and inclusive for all, regardless of your financial circumstances. So, we will also work with you to establish any appropriate grants, scholarships or corporate sponsorships, to offset the costs of your participation.

faqs&contact us Are internships paid? We are seeking to get as many of the internship opportunities, as possible, to be paid – although, each organisation we are in talks with, will have different arrangements. We will approach each opportunity on it’s own merits, and share these with you, to help with your decision-making. Can I apply for scholarships – to contribute towards my fees? Yes, we want to make this Program as affordable and accessible as possible, for all students. We will support whatever approach will work for you. How do we make arrangements for Visas? You will need to apply for a residence permit in advance. There are different approaches, depending on the country you will be working in – but, this usually takes around two months to arrange – and, we will support you in this process, coordinating details with your potential employer. What about accommodation? We are arranging safe, secure and comfortable group accommodation, on your behalf, for the Orientation Week in Copenhagen, and the Final section of the Program. We will also support you, in collaboration with your employer, in securing suitable accommodation in the vicinity of your internship.

supporting you in collaboration with your employer

What do we do about travel arrangements? You will need to book and pay for your own flights, and travel to your internship employer. Your employer may reimburse you directly for travel costs associated with your internship.
