FOREWORD There’s a distinct value of art in life where ever I go. I could not have appreciated more, even for a little while. This journey of finding true purpose of art have gone slightly a jar than I expected. But, no more than an obstacle is what truly defines me. My works so far, evolves academically to professionally in the course of seven years, but these past two years separated me from amateur to advanced, personally. This is my graphic anthology — A graphic design portfolio. From 2014 to 2017.

I joined RedHot Media Sdn Bhd in 2014 after lists of companies I’ve been in. RHM is by far the most challenging for me. The work consists of handling multiple accounts with additional in-house designs. During my last days in RHM, I was handling all of the accounts by myself, with little to no help. I had to finally settle down and find solace elsewhere. For starters, I am glad I landed this job, It gave me the sense of responsibility and liability. It showed me the respect I yearned and teached me how valuable my time is and to work under pressure. This company molded me into someone better and reliable. Here are my works for RHM.

CLIENTS

Logo rationale

The company’s inspiration was to have beehive motives — a hexagonal shape of the hive — with a horse’s head and the letter A. All these motives are of the company’s initial logo.

Co n cep t s tages

ACMAR Acmar hotel & residents was one of the early clients we were pitching. The triangular shaped and abandoned hotel was to resume works starting with its rebranding. A total of 3 logos were selected, I had left the company before any other work was resumed.

KTMB pitch In 2014, KTM Berhad had propose to advertisers and media owners to pitch ideas to make KL Sentral the new hub of advertising. They wanted to make KL Sentral more lively. From guerilla ads to huge LED screens, and top of the line kiosks to provide safe and harmonious environment for passengers.

LINK 2 One of the projects of Berjaya Corporation Bhd was its residences in Bukit Jalil, The LINK 2. The concept was a follow up to The LINK, located right next to the new condominium. Berjaya gave us the opportunity to come up with a concept that can follow through other peripherals in the future to promote the upcoming property.

The Ten-Fold The Ten-fold brochure was never done before in Malaysia as it needs a stretch of paper that can cover the design. The purpose of the ten-fold brochure is to act like a book and can decorate in a manner of a star. It also doubles as a back to back brochure.

Joven i90 JOVEN was one of RHM’s everlasting clients. RHM was always behind the designs of the newer models of JOVEN. One of the products for JOVEN is the i90 model. With a strict value of perfection, and consistency, the JOVEN brochures are always in a three-fold manner. JOVEN always settle with calm and soothing colors with exceptional materials.

TRESTOR Trestor brakes are one of RHM’s below-the-line clients that caters for garages and workshops. If you are changing your brakes, use Trestor.

PUC PUC Founder was the mother company for RHM. Among other works I’ve done for PUC, Here’s a few that I think that are worthy to be considered ok. The rest are all below-the-line artworks, like posters, signages, photography, photo editing and etc.

SCP SCP Parking is one of the clients RHM was pitching. Not my best works, but oh well. Our client servicing manager thought it would work if we advertised in a parking lot and making sure people are aware of these products. Of course, they did not like the idea.

EON Automart EON Automart would call us sometimes just to give ideas on ways to promote their cars. We just made it a reality.

Suffering has been stronger than all other teaching, and has taught me to understand what your heart used to be. I have been bent and broken, but — I hope — into a better shape.” — Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

From 2015 till present, Malay Mail has been the epitome of my whole career as a graphic designer. I went on to become the youngest assistant head designer of Malay Mail Creative Studio, after nearly a year working through grit and determination. I grabbed every opportunity that was given to me and never stopped since. Malay Mail is a perfect example of how hard work can be. From normal DTP performances to intricate infographics and concept, power brainstorming, everlasting change of designs, signposts, straps, and basically everything an advertising company does. Only with daily deadlines.

'Green- eyed' Malay Mail special report on Selva Kumar, the ‘green-eyed’ monster. The 5-page special report concept and execution was my personal favourite. The cover story became a serious talking point for malaysians the following day.

Keirin King Together with the Keirin King, Azizulhasni Awang. I was showing him the cover of Malay Mail 15042017 issue and explaining the concept of the cover and how it came to be.

There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you, and there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself. — Lemony Snicket, Horseradish

Kelanta n Pink Stadium ISOMETRIC This isometric infographic are among few of my first tries using 16-bit illustration. I also had multiple occasions on rendering photo manipulations like the one I did (above) when Dato’ Vida announced her involvement with Kelantan FA.

31st Aug 2015 August 31st has always been my favourite day as it both represent the country’s independence day and now, for the best cover I did when I joined Malaymail. This was a few months after I first started in Malay Mail. Although the reference of the illustration was from getty images, It was my first illustration for Malay Mail. I was also tasked to create illustrations and pages for an education supplement from Celcom, but the idea was scraped.

31st Aug 2016 I did it again for the following year with the recreation of The Malay Mail 1957 issue. From the Masthead, to heading, photo enhancement and the whole concept. The whole issue was a great effort and contribution from the whole editorial team. The Malay Mail sold 50,000 copies on the 31st of August 2016 and had great reactions from press’ in Malaysia. This, was my greatest achievement.

MRT phase 1 Yet another achievement for Malaymail as I ventured into highly-detailed inforgraphics with illustration combined. It took me a couple of days to come up with the concept and visuals, Picture courtesy of Malay Mail photographer Azneal Ishak and MRT. This infographic came out late 2016 during its launch. I was nominated for the MPI Awards for my infographic, coming up at the top 5 of the best infographics, but did not win.

Straps As the Assistant Head Designer 2 of the Malay Mail Creative Studio, I was tasked to create straps and signpost for various occasions. i.e. Merdeka Day, Malaysia Day, Ramadhan, Hari Raya, and among other celebrations and events in Malaysia. I was also tasked for other jobs at Malay Mail (i.e. above). Including logos and advertisements, as well as supplements like Clutch, Health and Education.

Concepts 2016 was the hardest year when I was appointed Assistant Head Designer 2 in Malay Mail. I was tasked to come up with all the concepts for upcoming events. I delivered concepts for EURO 2016, Copa America, Olympics, Paralympics, Merdeka Day, Malaysia Day, Hari Raya and Christmas. The last concept I did for 2016 was MRT Phase One.

Afternoon Malay Mail launched it’s 2nd digital product, a daily lunchtime companion The Malay Mail Afternoon in 2016 that caters to its online readers. I was brought to the afternoon team quite late but was able to catch up with its system. I was tasked to be the officer-in-charge (OC) after 2 days of training. Here are a few samples of cover images I did during my time in the Malay Mail Afternoon E-paper.

I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.. — Henry David Thoreau

Awakening Both RHM and Malay Mail has taught me a lot, mentally, physically and spiritually. It gave me a sense of purpose. To show people that art can make people understand better about the world. This is my purpose.
