During our p erform a nc es we sha red a b it of the m a g ic a nd wond er tha t our 18 c a st m em b ers, interns, a nd sta ff enjoyed tog ether im a g ining a show to life.

Into the Extra ordina ry wa s a world p rem iere p rod uc tion, d evised b y the c a st over two weeks. It a ll sta rted with a q uestion: If d oorwa ys op ened b etween our world a nd m a ny others, wha t m a g ic , m isc hief, a nd m a yhem m ig ht ensue? We a lso wond ered , a s m a ny writers of p orta l fa nta sies d o: Wha t m ig ht c ha ra c ters lea rn throug h the p roc ess of lea ving their own world s a nd visiting a nother?

Mig ht they feel a g rea ter sense of b elong ing , of self- a wa reness, b ec a use of they lea rn everything a b out them selves on the a d venture?

To d evelop the show, we used a va riety of tec hniq ues: im p rovisa tion, b ra instorm ing , m ovem ent to m usic , c olla b ora tion with the fa nta stic tea m of d esig ners, a nd of c ourse, a lot of tria l a nd error. Our show d evelop ed throug h a series of d isc overies. In the end , our p rod uc tion showc a sed the im a g ina tion, hum or, a nd hea rt of ea c h p erson who c ontrib uted to the p roc ess.

The p roc ess involved a c hing b a c ks, sp linters in ha nd s, injured a nkles, a nd a lot of hea d - sc ra tc hing a s we tried to fit p la tform s into the weird c revic es of our oc ta g ona l sp a c e. Inevita b ly, A portion of the new sea ting risers. new p la tform s, ra iling s, a nd sta ir units ha d to b e c rea ted every tim e we d id a show.

At the c lose of 2022 a g ia nt d elivery truc k p ulled up with ou r n ew c u st om - b u ilt sea t in g risers. They a re m a d e of steel ( m uc h lig hter a nd no sp linters) , c om e with rolling c a rts ( no m ore c a rrying one p la tform a t a tim e from the p a rking lot) , a nd a ssem b le with only a n Allen wrenc h ( g ood b ye sc rew g uns & sc rews) . They a lso c om e with ra iling s a nd skirting , m a king them OSHA- c om p lia nt. The risers a llow for flexib le sea ting c onfig ura tions, so we c a n switc h b etween thrust sea ting ( a ud ienc e on three sid es of a sta g e) a nd p rosc enium sea ting ( a ll a ud ienc e fa c es forwa rd ) .
