There are several dive sites around the capital area; popular ones are Fahal Island, Al Khayran, the Daymaniyat Islands and Al Makbara Bay. Whatever the choice of site for diving, underwater life is abundant with a variety of intact hard and soft corals and a spectacular range of fish. Divers are often rewarded with sightings of dolphins. In addition to Daymaniyat Islands, keen divers can also look towards Musandam, which is said to have some of the best diving spots. It is also endowed with spectacular coastal scenery, especially around the town of Kumzar. It is home to a range of marine life including hammerhead
and leopard whale sharks, mink whales, manta, eagle rays and turtles, as well as numerous species of smaller tropical fish. Down south in Dhofar are also some exciting underwater opportunities, particularly in the Mirbat area.

In addition to dramatic wall drop-offs and scenic coral lined fjords, ranging in depth from 6-40m; Oman also enjoys good sea conditions with an average visibility of 20-30 m. During the winter months the sea temperature is said to drop to 20-25 C°. Night dives are also popular among experienced divers who are drawn to the fascinating marine life as well as the astonishing amount of phosphorescence found in Oman’s nighttime waters. Experts in the industry opine that scuba diving in Oman is exceptionally good, particularly in the Damaniyat Islands, which, many agree to be one of the best dive sites in the Middle East. Other water sports like snorkelling, water skiing, big game fishing, etc., have also gained immense popularity in recent times.
