10 ATA-KAHURANGI THE SPIRIT OF THE DEPARTED
The small piece was worked on the hearing of the passing of a friend. The ‘cross’ form becomes a flying manu tui continuing to give voice, a voice not heard physically but rather internally. The figure stands in the centre, or the place of Te Ao Marama , this world, and on either side manaia forms push time, past and present outwards.
