The best testers

The hunt for adventure is not always possible on two legs. Crawling, rolling or sliding can help tackle those obstacles that get in the way, and kids love both an adventure and a challenge. Adventures are a must when you're a child, which is why we focus on wearability and durability in our clothing. We have many years' experience and a close relationship with our suppliers, which means we're able to keep our promise. We test wearability using the Martindale test, where clothes are rubbed consistently until the material gives in. Our outdoor clothing must be able to handle a minimum of 40,000 rubs. Only then can we be certain that the material is good and durable enough to last for lots of adventures - whether on the tummy, back, knees etc.

WATER-RESISTANCE WP 3-9.000

Water falls from the sky in many wonderful shapes and for hours' of great play - whether you're jumping in puddles, brewing magic potions, or rolling snowmen. Racoon Outdoor wants to support outdoor play - even with water. That's why we thoroughly test our clothing for water resistance. When setting a goal for water resistance, we measure how many millimetres of water pressure the clothing can handle before the water seeps through. Our spring range can handle water pressure of minimum 3000 mm (WP 3,000) and is therefore strong enough to handle heavy rain. In winter, children are more subjected to water, which is why our winter range can handle a minimum of 9,000 mm (WP 9,000). We achieve our high levels of water resistance by adding both an inner and outer coating to the material, and by taping the seams together. You'll see that we describe our clothing as having taped seams - this means that our seams are also water-resistant.

We measure water pressure by stretching an item of clothing over a ring, which has a high cylinder fastened above it. Water is then poured into the cylinder, and the clothing is subjected to a water jet pressure, and will eventually yield - and let the water seep through. If the material can handle 9,000 mm water in the cylinder, like ours can, then it's WP 9,000 approved.

BREATHABILITY 2

3-7,000 g/m /24hrs

Breathability is all about sweat. Because kids sweat when they run around. Sweating cools the body, which is quite cool in itself. But sweat needs the opportunity to disappear back out through your clothes once it's done its job, because otherwise you start to feel cold and wet. That's why it's important to ensure the right balance between waterproof and breathable materials, which can create good temperature regulation. There is a difference between regulation in winter and summer, which is why we have a breathability of 3,000 g/m2/24hrs in our spring and summer collection, and 7,000 g/m2/24hrs in our autumn and winter collection.

8

Breathability is stated in figures, indicating how much water per amount of time and area is measured as evaporating through the clothing. Breathability is measured using the 'upright cup' method, where steam between skin and clothing is simulated. The clothing is placed over a cup that contains water in the bottom, and the evaporation is measured after e.g. 24 hours.

STAY WARM 2

Thermolite® 140 g/m

Our winter clothes contain Thermolite® 140g/m2 as insulation. Thermolite® is designed to keep the heat in during changeable weather, temperatures and levels of activity. Thermolite® is made from light polyfiber, which has a large surface, and whose dense fiber structure ensures excellent heat insulation and perfect temperature regulation. It provides excellent comfort and ensures optimum breathability and damp transport. Thermolite® insulation makes Racoon Outdoor's clothes warm and snug when winter really bites.

THERMAL WEAR

SOFTSHELL

Warm and waterproof

A wind and waterproof fleece

Themals are a must when winter clothing gets too warm. Thermals can be worn on their own or as a middle layer under rain clothes. Racoon Outdoor's thermal set with trousers and jacket are durable and of a high quality in a light, soft, water resistant material.

Softshell is popular in sport and outdoor activities, and we can see why. Softshell is a highly practical material that is warm, breathable and wind and waterproof (3,000 mm). It's almost too good to be true! And Racoon Outdoor's softshell clothes are also soft and has no stiff stitching or edges.

RAIN CLOTHES Let it rain!

Rain is fun, and that's why rain clothes should be soft, gorgeous and waterproof (naturally) - so that no puddle remains unsplashed. Racoon Outdoor's rain clothes have a water resistance of 3,000 mm, as well as water resistant welded seams. The rain clothes have quick-drying cuffs to keep the wrists warm and dry, and to keep the sleeves in place. The rain clothes come as practical all-in-one suits for the little ones, and as a set for the bigger ones, where trousers measure up to 110 cm in size, with adjustable straps. In winter the sets are lined with a warm fleece, making them slush-resistant too! 15

ALL-IN-ONE OR TWO-PIECE?

When is the right time to change?

Children grow, switch from nursery to pre-school, and suddenly they're at school. They start to sit up, crawl, walk, and one day they cycle off by themselves with a 'See you later!'. As they grow, so do their needs for winter clothes, and one day we find ourselves asking whether we still need to buy an all-in-one or whether we should progress to a two-piece. Our best advice is to stick to the all-in-one for as long as possible. Our children often have to get themselves dressed - even the tiny ones. So an all-in-one is practical because it's easy to get into, keeps the whole body warm and protects against rain, snow and slush. It stills suits many older school children too, as they're often in a hurry when the bell goes. Racoon Outdoor's all-in-ones come in three sizes: 134 (9 years).

AGE OR HEIGHT? Pick the right size

Children generally grow too fast, but there's not a lot we can do about it. Just enjoy them while you can, and keep measuring them. That's the best way to pick the right clothing size. Age can often be misleading, because some kids are tall, others small. It's best to pick the current size, and not the 'next size up'. We've already added a little growing room, corresponding to how much a child would normally grow in a season. And it will inhibit the child's freedom of movement and ability to stay warm if the all-in-one is too big. The sleeves and trousers in Racoon Outdoor's outdoor clothing has elastic ends, and there are several ways to adjust the clothes to the child. If the child is in between sizes, we recommend the bigger size.If the child has a sturdy build, or long legs or back, we recommend the bigger size. ABOUT CARE AND WASHING Some tips

Racoon Outdoor's water resistant coating and tape is sensitive to machine washing and high heat from tumble drying and airing cupboards. That's why we don't recommend you wash it as often as other clothes, but only when absolutely necessary. Washing in the washing machine negatively affects the clothing's properties and reduces the water resistance. You can easily rinse dirt off under a shower, or wipe it off with a damp cloth. Tumble dryers and airing cupboards heat at such high temperatures that the coating can become damaged and the waterproof tape around the stitching can become stiff and rip holes in the material.
