ocated a few steps from the hustle and bustle of Palm Beach’s Worth Avenue, the Ashley John Gallery is modeled after owner Jim Alterman’s flagship gallery, Jim’s of Lambertville (Lambertville, NJ). Named after his five-year-old twins,

Ashley and John, the gallery boasts 2,000-square feet of exhibition space and consistently maintains two-hundred works on view with prices and descriptions listed alongside each work. “It’s for accessibility with no pressure,” Alterman says. “We hang a lot, offering our collectors a broad variety of art with an emphasis on quality, providing something for everyone. For those who are not art connoisseurs, they can come in, let their eyes wander, and determine what appeals to them. Our friendly and competent staff are always available to answer questions and assist clients without making them feel uncomfortable.” Focusing mainly on twentieth-century American art and sculpture, there is a strong presence of Pennsylvania Impressionists — an area of Alterman’s expertise and about which he wrote in the book New Hope for American Art. Included among the 165 artists in his book are Edward Redfield, George Sotter, William Lathrop, Daniel Garber, Fern Coppedge,

Walter Schofield George Sotter

M. Elizabeth Price, and Walter Baum, all of whom were members of the influential New Hope Art Colony. A corner of the gallery is dedicated to the works of Vaclav Vytlacil

VACL AV V Y TL ACIL

(1892 – 1984)

Vaclav Vytlacil was one of the forerunners of American modernism, working hard to bring autonomy to contemporary art forms like Abstract Expressionism in the United States. As a student of Hans Hofmann and a teacher to such famous artists as Robert Rauschenberg, Vytlacil was at the center of a revolutionary assemblage of talented painters, all of whom contributed immensely to the progress of American art in the twentieth century. Ashley John Gallery is proud to represent the estate of Vaclav Vytlacil introducing works to our gallery never before offered for sale.
