Volleyball, soccer combine practice

Tennis season wraps up by Brian FitzGerald

The PHS volleyball and soccer teams practiced together in late September. Pictured here is a Varsity soccer player working to block a free ball by the Varsity volleyball team.

Fairview golf outing larger than ever

On Saturday, September 28th, The Fairview Elementary Parent-Staff Organization and the Krakow Advancement Association hosted the 2nd Annual PSO/KAA Golf Classic at Red Maple Golf Course in Suring. It was a great day to build community and raise money for the fine arts programs at Fairview Elementary. The event was more successful than originally planned, both financially and socially! Thank you to all of those who were able to come out and support our event!

Most successful volleyball season in recent history by Brian FitzGerald

It has been noticeably louder at the Fred Kestly Field House this fall. On most Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Field House has been packed with students making more noise than usual as the Varsity volleyball team has been attracting an increased number of fans with its successful regular season. “The student support this season has been one that I have not seen previously when it comes to volleyball matches,” said Coach Katie Sukow. “It means a lot knowing we have people behind us supporting us each game,” added senior Emily Simmons. After an extremely tough early season schedule, where the first three conference games

were against the top three teams in the FRCC, the volleyball team has gone 5-4 and is currently tied for the fifth best team in the conference. The girls recently rallied to win four games in a row. “The girls have really embraced higher level competition and have continued to believe in what they can achieve,” commented Sukow. The team has been able to accomplish one of the most successful years in recent Pulaski volleyball history, ultimately setting themselves up for a high seed in the playoffs. Emily Simmons, Annalisa Pusick, Rachelle Erdmann and Lauren Egnarski are the four seniors on the team this year, all of whom have been playing on Varsity since their sophomore year of high school.

The girls tennis season has come to an end for the Red Raiders after a record breaking year. The team’s record was 14-5, which was the best regular season record in Pulaski girls tennis history. The squad was the fifth best team in the conference, placed tenth in the 16 team sectional tournament, and sent freshman Molly Plummer to compete at sectionals. Plummer succeeded and will be the first Pulaski female to compete in the tennis state tournament. While the team will miss the solid group of seniors they were able to have this season, the rest of the girls were relatively young, making the future of the program look promising. “We had a great group of athletes this season,” said Coach Aaron Sperduto. “We must continue to work on increasing our consistency, improving the pace of our tennis balls and develop our overall tennis skills.” With such a successful 2013 year, the coaches and players are hoping that the positive momentum from this year will carry into the offseason. “Our girls have so much potential to elevate their game to the next level,” said Coach Maria Slusarek. “I am looking forward to the talents and ferocity they are going to bring next season.” Good luck to Plummer as she continues on to the state tournament!
