As we move from peak summer into the autumn months, we’re hoping it stays warm, maybe we’ll even have an Indian summer.

It’s almost conference time again and although we’ve had some stunning virtual online conferences for the last 5 years, overwhelmingly you’ve told us that you wanted to get back to a face to face experience, and boy have we delivered!

Obviously not all of you are able to attend this year’s event, so we wanted to make this edition of Reiki World a little bit special.

By the time you read this magazine, the conference will be over for another year, but you can read about some of the fantastic speakers we have on pages 10 to 15.

We are pleased to have such a great line up of key speakers throughout the day, we can’t wait to hear from them all. We will, of course, follow up with emails and social media posts, in the coming weeks and months, with some of the high points of the day.

With the AGM fast approaching, and being held on Sunday 26th November 2023, we hope to see as many of you as possible joining us via zoom.

The UKRF team continues to strengthen with Angela Bowe joining our team to look after marketing.

Distance Healing Group: Summer updates from Jo Fellows

Join our distance healing team to benefit others (and yourself too)

We’re always looking for new members to join the UKRF distance healing team - there are 80 of us at the moment - but the more the merrier!

Hiroshi Doi suggests that the healing is amplified by the square of the number of people ‘sending’ the Reiki healing - (currently our 80 healers is 6,400 times more powerful) so if we have more members then the healing will always be amplified more. And, we not only ‘send’ healing to those that request it, but to each other too! :))

The distance healing team continues to grow, but we are always looking for new members too. The more healers we can get involved, the stronger the healing for those that request it.

UKRF Reiki Practitioners give their time each week to send Reiki healing to anyone who makes a request from anywhere in the world. How the group works is that each week the volunteers receive a list of those people/animals/events that have requested healing and we all collectively send positive Reiki healing to everyone on the list, at a time that suits each one of us.

Meet our conference speakers...

Reiki Master Johannes Reindl was born and lives in Austria. He undertook his training with Phyllis Lei Furumoto and has continued to practice Reiki since 1995.

In March 2019 Johannes was recognised by Phyllis Lei Furumoto as her successor and became the Lineage Bearer of Usui Shiki Ryoho.

We are looking forward to hearing Johannes’ insights at our conference.

Torsten A. Lange was director of the Reiki Academy London for over ten years, and has recently founded the Reiki Science Academy for a more research-based focus on Reiki. He is an international speaker and workshop facilitator, and the only Hay House author for Reiki. Having done extensive research into the history and spiritual foundations of Reiki, he has taught thousands of students worldwide.

His research revealed new information about Reiki history in Japan and led him to finding the world’s first independent scientific proof of the different vibrational levels of Reiki.

His second book, “Proof of Reiki, Proof of Eternity”, has been published in 2021 and his latest book, “There is a Way: The Reiki Revolution”, in March 2023.

At our conference Torsten will talk about: Reiki and AI - The amazing relevance of Reiki in the digital age.

Duncan Cross PhD, is the Research Coordinator for the UKRF and the Head of Education at a Northern UK University. Duncan sits on a number of international advisory groups for education, he is a National Teaching Fellow, Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Fellow of the Society for Education and Training. Duncan has been practicing Reiki since 1998 and is a Master Teacher member of the UK Reiki Federation, and also a CNHC registrant for Reiki.

At our UKRF conference Duncan will be discussing ‘Reconnecting Reiki practice and research’. This presentation will explore the research direction the UKRF has taken in the last 3 years, and why and how we’ve approached reconnecting research with the membership and the wider Reiki community. Duncan will also give some highlights from recent surveys on spirituality and meditation practice.

Jasmin Harsono is the founder of the wellness brand and space Emerald and Tiger and Feels. She works worldwide as a multi-sensory artist, practitioner, writer, author, speaker, contributor and brand advisor. Jasmin’s work fuses the synergies of life experience, training, modern life, conscious living and ancient practices to support and give people experiences and tools to tap into their truth, power, and potential.

Laura Barbour is our UKRF Animal Reiki Coordinator and is an Animal Reiki Master Teacher who has been working with horses and other animals since childhood, switching from general “Energy Healing” for horses to Reiki in 2000.

Laura runs Equine Reiki training in Scotland with the support of a family herd of Mustangs. At our conference, Laura will be talking about how Reiki can help animals, different ways of incorporating Reiki with animals into your Reiki practice, how to apply for Animal Reiki Practitioner membership, getting your course accredited and new Equine Reiki options including the upcoming NOS (National Occupational Standards) level for Combined Reiki for Horses & Humans.

There will be opportunities after the talk to ask questions or request support.

Wendy Gordon is a Reiki Practitioner and Teacher based around the Nottingham/Derby areas. Wendy is trained in the Eastern Japanese Style, Reiki Ryoho, runs training workshops at Ilkeston (Derbyshire) and provides treatments at both of her venues at Ilkeston and Stapleford (Nottingham).

Wendy is experienced in providing treatments for people and having completed Level One Animal Reiki, she is building experience in the treatment of animals too. Wendy previously used to work in the NHS as a hospital midwife, leaving in 2018 after 29 years of service to focus on her Reiki Journey.

“I feel very passionate about elevating the standards of Animal Reiki Training so that our profession is recognised in line with other Animal Complimentary Therapies. My purpose here within the UKRF Animal Reiki Team is to help those interested in developing their practice in Animal Reiki so they may get the best guidance and support with this.”

Reiki Master/Teacher Jo Fellows is the UKRF Distance Healing Coordinator and has been working with Reiki for over 20 years. She’s also a certified Advanced Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance International, certified Qi Gong teacher with Long White Cloud Qi Gong, certified Sound Massage and Sound Healing Practitioner and Meditation teacher.

Yoga is not all about one handed handstands, or even instagram postures. Yoga means to yoke or to join - to join mind, body and soul/spirit. In yoga it’s not the postures that are important, the important thing is to learn something about yourself through the practice, to notice where your body feels tight, where it’s holding onto something and to give yourself the opportunity to let go.

Jo Fellows will guide us through pranayama (breathwork practices) and simple, gentle movements that are really beneficial in allowing energy to move through our body. These practices are particularly useful for anyone who suffers from stress and anxiety, or tension in the body, mind or spirit, bringing balance and harmony into our lives.

Simon Fellows is a photographer, writer, Advanced Yoga Teacher (RYT 500) and musician. He has trained in sound massage with the Peter Hess Institute and soundscape composition with Goldsmiths, University of London.

Sound baths help us to reach a deeper connection through listening and vibration. It’s an immersive experience, shaped by a broad spectrum of sound that promotes a profound state of calm.

At the conference, Simon and Jo will bathe you in sound from a variety of crystal bowls, Himalayan bowls, chimes and other acoustic instruments from around the world. As you lie back and relax, repetitive yet evolving harmonious and discordant patterns will activate your parasympathetic nervous system, while forging new pathways in the brain.

Sound influences the emotional state that we inhabit. Too often we are swamped by the uninvited, unwanted cacophony of the everyday, with little chance to find peace in tranquillity. A sound bath is your opportunity to trigger a relaxation response that will improve mood and, eventually, your outlook on life.

Simon and Jo will explain the processes that enable people to reach sublime relaxation through sound, and will guide you through a journaling session after the performance.

Geoff Rolls is a Learning and Development Consultant and NLP Trainer. He is also a Touch for Health Kinesiology Consultant, and is attuned to Reiki.

Geoff has been working in personal development for the last 25 years supporting others to facilitate change in their personal and professional lives.

Animals Like to be Included

Animals like ourselves are generally (though not always) social beings and as such they like to take an interest in what is going on around them, and they may also like to be included within the social group.

This inclusion helps animals in bonding with other members of the herd or pack and also helps them to establish their place within the group. We can all appreciate that lovely overall feeling of belonging within a group.

Grooming is not only wonderful for keeping an animal’s coat and skin in good condition, it is also a nice way for us to share both time and loving energy with members of our herd or pack.

And, when another animal sees an enjoyable bonding activity taking place you can bet that they will also want some of that lovely caring energy too.

I recently started doing a little bit of work with Oliver, an older horse at Hayfield Riding Centre, Aberdeen to build my own experience and confidence in ground working with horses. This has included in a little bit of in hand work, then a groom, and this is in addition to Oliver’s regular Reiki sessions.

I found that when Oliver was out of his stable for any length of time, Carrot, who lives in the neighbouring stable would make a fuss, and when I groomed Oliver in his stable Carrot would be paying attention.

In addition to this, I found that any time that I closed my eyes to share Reiki with Oliver (whether in person or distance Reiki), Carrot’s head would pop in at the side.

Animals speak to us all the time and their challenge is often about getting our attention in the first place to get their message across.

It took a wee while but after some persistence from Carrot, I finally got his message.

Carrot is now also out doing a little bit of in hand work and enjoys a lovely groom afterwards, with the occasional bit of Reiki being thrown in as well. Carrot is a lovely horse who is very sociable and also very curious about the world around him, and he just makes me smile.

So, whether it is grooming or another activity, sharing a little bit of time and loving energy is wonderfully therapeutic not only for ourselves, but also for the rest of the herd or pack around us.

Autumnal traditions in Japan

Autumn in Japan is known as Aki

Momijigari

The Japanese tradition of viewing maple leaves, also referred to as ‘autumn leaf-hunting’. It is a time to celebrate the beautiful fall colours of the maple trees. Momijigari is often a social event, and people will gather in parks and forests to admire the leaves. Although the word ‘gari’ means ‘hunting’, this activity is all about simply viewing and enjoying the beautiful leaves (not bringing them home). Generally the best time to see autumn leaves in Japan is between early November and early December.

Koyo

Koyo represents the whole experience of the autumnal leaf colour change It is a more general term than momijigari and it can be used to describe the red and orange autumnal colours of any tree. Koyo is a popular time for hiking and camping in Japan, as the changing colours of the leaves make the countryside even more beautiful.

Jidai Matsuri

A historical festival held in Kyoto every October. It is a time to celebrate the history and culture of Japan. The festival features a parade of people dressed in traditional costumes from different periods of Japanese history.

Tsukimi

This is a popular Japanese moon-viewing festival and a time to appreciate the beauty of the autumn moon. Tsukimi is often celebrated by eating moon-shaped dumplings and by drinking sake.

Time to evolve instead of constantly revolving

In this article we consider how we can all easily get drawn into our way of being which, through habit, we believe is the best way for us. We feel comfortable, yet an innate part of us knows that we are not totally comfortable, neither emotionally nor physically: we feel stuck, claustrophobic even. We liken this to being stuck in a revolving door.

It can be disorientating to constantly keep rotating, with a feeling of no exit. At the subtle end of the spectrum, you intuitively feel a vibe that suggests “I know I need to change”. A small yet powerful feeling. A need to evolve, to stop revolving. Sometimes the trigger can be self-determined, other times an external trigger may be necessary to help you realise there are changes that would serve you better. A few such feelings might be:

• Knowing that eating a particular food is not supporting your body, yet you still continue to eat it

• A health scare getting you to reflect on how you might do things differently

• Going to a conference, which makes you question your practice and realise you feel a little “stale”.

We know that Usui Sensei gave many attunements to each student over time (Rand). The purpose being that this process continually acted to refine and develop their ability to channel with more versatility and to heal more deeply. An important aspect of his philosophy was for students to continually seek to improve the quality and effectiveness of the Reiki energy they could channel. To evolve and not just keep revolving.

We offer you a play-along movie (link at the end of this article) to put this idea into practice. Below we describe the flow of feelmoves in the movie. Take some time to find what your rotating door is for you, here and now and really feel it. This will transfer into how you move – hence why, in Qiki Gong, we call them “feelmoves”

Endlessly rotating. You are stuck, tense (face, shoulders, hands, legs, mind) in old, routine habits. You have been there for a long time and may even feel lost. The door may have clear or opaque windows or be totally dark. It has become your way, your reality. Yet, when you have an awareness of that, of where you are, even tiny natural evolutions can enable you to consciously slow the revolving; to stop and rest, allowing yourself time to investigate directions in which to evolve.

You become aware that something is beyond the door. Look to your left – about 10 o’clock – tentatively reach out with your left hand... but no it’s not the right direction for you now. Bring your hand back to your side as you recognise that you are still a little tense, still stuck at this stage.

Look to your right, at about 2 o’clock… expand out with your right hand, palm down then draw back, palm up – ahhh yes, that feels much better. Smile, relax your face and shoulders and repeat the feelmove.

Move to angle yourself towards this feelgood place, expand forward palms outward-facing, push out to the sides with both hands to open up as you might part curtains, in order to clear your way forward. Smile. Relax your arms.

Take bold steps through and out of your door. Leaning gently forward, open your arms out at chest level, palms up and expand into your new place. Look out and smile. Wow – there it is.

True evolving really starts in your imagination. You may notice in the movie that Ruthie steps forward and Alan makes step movements. The important aspect is that you imagine the essence of ‘breaking out’. Knowing, trusting and feeling those new steps outside of your revolving door, you will feel the tremendous power it gives you.

Is this now your time to take the first steps away from the thing which no longer best serves you and/or your clients? Your time to step into a new beginning.

Where is the truth?

Telling the truth is a bedrock of a balanced society.... but what and where is the truth?

Is it as definitive as it sounds?

When we say phrases like ‘in truth..’ or ‘my truth here is...’ we are not necessarily speaking the truth, just our opinion in that moment. This will inevitably be influenced by all our experiences and limiting beliefs and could be miles away from the actual truth.

I suspect we all innately yearn to know the truth, and often give our power away to doctors, priests, scientists, parents, gurus, teachers and other figures of authority who claim to have access to it. And yet, most sources of expertise have probably evolved their thinking over the years. Can you think of any timeless absolutes in medicine?... dentistry?... politics?...economics?... spirituality?... naturopathy? The truth never changes, only our limited perception of it.

Issues with truth emerge from institutions as well as individuals. These bodies are rapidly disempowering us as individuals, asking us to shed our own discernment at the alter of their official ‘truth’, based on the absolutes of science, medicine and economics. I like absolutes, they give me comfort, but there are very few out there.

Ultimately, the best resource we have is our own personal discernment and intuition.

Nothing matters more, but it can still be very elusive. I am saddened to see so many nuanced debates polarised into this or that, right or wrong, rather than this and that. This dualistic thinking is creating separation at a time when we desperately need coalition.

Another significant risk is of the truth being weaponised. The Incan shaman call this the ‘shadow of jaguar’, the aggressive form of our power. Alarm bells should ring for anything that sounds like:

“My guides tell me you should not ...”

“My truth here is that you were wrong to...”

“I need to get this off my chest.”

“I am sorry that you feel that way.”

Can you see how this is not about speaking the truth? It is just criticism, opinion and judgement in disguise.

There is another aspect to this that is a bit more subtle. Sometimes, we can genuinely want to help but have no permission. For instance, we might be out with our friend and say: “You know, you say you want a relationship, but I never see you approaching anyone. Have you looked into whether you have any shadow beliefs around this?”. That may be a totally valid comment, but unless it was specifically invited you have no permission to volunteer it.

My guidelines for speaking out are:

1. Is this the absolute truth or an opinion?

2. Do I have permission to say it? Have I been asked to comment?

3. Does what I want to say add value?

4. Does it come from a place of love?

5. Is now a good time?

All too often, I have seen criticism or commentary coming from a person’s need to clear their pent-up energy, their own need to speak masqueraded as ‘speaking my truth’. This is projection, looking for personal healing and deciding that dumping some unresolved energy on someone else will help. It might, for a while, but it is not loving or appropriate.

There is only one truth in the Universe and that truth is love. Words, even the word ‘love’ is inherently limited and cannot come even close to expressing the truth of what it is trying to represent.

In that sense, all words, including these, are flawed. They have value if they help you move closer to the absolute truth of love but are not the truth in themselves. Let them help you but not define you or inhibit your own journey of discernment and learning.

The four basic rules of Gendai Reiki Ho

The practice of Reiki is an original method of healing developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th century. Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, meaning “Usui Reiki Healing Method Learning Society”, is the name of the society of Reiki Masters founded by Mikao Usui.

Gendai Reiki Ho is not a new Reiki system. It can be referred to as “original Japanese Usui Reiki Ryoho in the Gendai Reiki style,” as it allows people in modern society to learn and practice the original Japanese Usui Reiki Ryoho easily and comfortably.

Reiki is a healing method using Reiki, and ‘to be healed’ means to go back to its original, healthy state. Not just the body, but also mind and soul are all in a healthy state. Usui Sensei said that Usui Reiki Ryoho included both aspects of physical treatment and spiritual practice. He completely trusted a Reiki practitioner as to which aspect to take. If you understand Reiki as physical treatment, your Reiki session will be a physical treatment mainly targeting the physical body. If you understand Reiki as a spiritual practice to heal mind and soul, your Reiki session will be a spiritual practice.

With Gendai Reiki Ho, you will be able to heal the mind and body and improve spirituality

Four Basic Rules of Gendai Reiki Ho:

Resonance: to resonate with Reiki and aspire to a healthy and happy life. It is a way to live our life fruitfully.

Transparency: to avoid prejudice, dogma, and secrecy. Eliminate any mystical aspect, and do not advocate Reiki as a mysterious, mystic, religious, or miraculous practice.

Practicality: to understand the characteristics of Reiki and its techniques to be able to explain the purposes and importance of them rationally.

Simplicity: to simply follow the instructions in the official manuals. Do not make it complicated. Enjoy practicing them anytime, every day and feel the effects.

Trans Reiki - Enhance your Reiki

I wrote the Trans Reiki Day course as a direct response to clients I had been successfully giving treatments at the then Marlborough Natural Health Centre, twenty years ago. I found myself using this combination of skills naturally and realised that it would be a perfect tool for my Reiki students.

I have been teaching Reiki constantly for twenty-four years at my clinics and now from Fyfield Therapy Rooms. I have a wellestablished school of Reiki and run regular courses and Reiki shares for my Reiki family.

I was originally a registered Nurse in General, Psychiatric & Ophthalmic Nursing and trained in other modalities including Counselling, hypnotherapy, mindfulness & Neuro Linguistic Programming. I found that clients that were referred to me were suffering from anxiety, low self-esteem and depression.

After the initial assessment, counselling etc I always gave Reiki, which has been proven to nurture, nourish & relax those experiencing past or recent trauma which has affected their ability to live fulfilling lives. As we know, Reiki allows the client’s own energy to begin to heal themselves.

I found myself using visualisation techniques, sometimes using hypnotherapy or flowing gently and using my intuition, NLP and useful language designed for change.

I did not use it for the whole session but just enough to relax, calm and speak to the clients’ subconscious mind, suggesting positive change and many other outcomes for their own higher good.

Trans Reiki uses hypnotic language, tone, body language, NLP techniques, affirmations and modalities of our language. During the course we look at the ways we sabotage ourselves, our beliefs & drivers from an early age and spend time creating affirmations.

I have scripts for most eventualities including cord cutting, self-esteem, fertility, letting go, bereavement, connecting to the source, grounding and much more.

These are really useful tools for Reiki healers to add to the compassion & energy they are using during a session. I have trained for many years learning these techniques and realise that with confidence & flow, they can be taught in a day to Reiki Healers.

Thoughts are pure energy. They affect us on a cellular, emotional, spiritual and soul level.

Dr. Bruce Lipton states that ‘our thoughts create our reality as our cells respond to their environment’ so our bodies are amazingly miraculous. Our thoughts will create an immediate physical response ( i.e. when we are in a state of fear and need to take action ) and our bodies can also create a thought response. (if we have a triggered feeling from experience) & our thoughts go into override, worrying & ruminating about events yet to occur.

The Trans Reiki course is a valuable selfhealing tool which can be used to both inspire and show our clients the possibilities that are open to them.

Our state of mind really affects our recovery from addictions, depression and all manner of life’s challenges. Those suffering from chronic auto immune diseases can greatly benefit from taking control of their health with nutrition, healing and support. We are often told that nothing can be done and to listen to your Doctor and keep taking the tablets. As Reiki Practitioners, we have seen a real change in our clients. Nothing is impossible and we know from Dr Usui that Just for today do not worry, just for today do not anger. The antidote to both is gratitude. Just for today be grateful, count your blessings.

I have worked with many different people with an array of issues. Yes I am experienced in this area but all of us can make a difference and we can inspire others to learn, research and to find ways of healing ourselves and others. It is a day of positivity, sharing, love & laughter.
