Smalticeram Coloroficio Cerámico: 40 years of innovative tradition NOBODY IS BORN A WINNER, BUT EVERYONE CAN BECOME ONE. THIS IS PROVEN BY THE HISTORY OF SMALTICERAM, WITH MORE THAN 40 YEARS OF AMBITIONS, CHALLENGES AND STORIES OF SUCCESS, WHICH YEAR-IN-YEAR-OUT SCULPTURED THE COMPANY’S SUPREMACY.

malticeram was established in 1970 in Roteglia di Castellarano, near Sassuolo and in the production cradle of industrial tile manufacturers. The acquisition, in 1988, of two small local production factories marked the starting point of its growth, always alongside its customers, who are the most important partners of Smalticeram.

Curiosity, commitment and on-going research accompanied the enterprise through to 1997 when, on January 1st, it took-on the name with which it is currently known worldwide, Smalticeram Unicer S.p.A. Today it is a leading producer and vendor of frits, pigments, glazes and colours, for industrial tile manufacturing applications, making the top quality of the product, the high level of service offered and reliability the outstanding point of excellence on the market. If one should take a look at the “family album” of Smalticeram, one would immediately realise the company’s role in the growth of the entire tile manufacturing industry: an ambitious enterprise, which in all the historical eras, since 1970 to date, skilfully “foresensed the market” and offered ever innovative improvement solutions, developing material for the tile manufacturing industry.

The high level of customisation of the products offered by Smalticeram has always been a precious element of competitiveness.

On one hand, it is a solid enterprise anchored to a well-defined managerial structure, backed initially by the work of founders Antonio Notari (who died on year 2000) and Mario Lugli; on the other, it is the inborn passion passed down from father to son, and translated into constant research, focus on the development of tastes and exploitation of ever cutting edge technologies. The core value of the entire business has never changed over the years: customer satisfaction, being the most important aspect considered in all the decisions made by Smalticeram. Managing direction lies currently on Giuseppe Ovi and Gianni Pollini, so keeping the familial spirit of the company.

SOME IMPORTANT DATES Let’s highlight some dates that have been important for the company: • In 1973 it established a branch in Castellón (Spain) so enhancing the service in Spain, France, North Africa and other close countries. •1990 was the year for the worldwide implementation with a new branch in Indonesia well in advance regarding competitors in Asia. • 1998 saw the opening of new facilities in São Paulo (Brazil) to provide a better attention to the Latin American market. • But the international spreading was not complete yet and in 2007 new facilities were set in Johannesburg (South Africa) to take care, among others, of Australian market. And they are still on their way...
