The amazing story of Mario Garnero’s achievements as a student and entrepreneur can leave a question in the air: would a person as dedicated to work as himself be able to find time to raise four children? Mario Bernardo, Álvaro, Fernando and Antonio don’t hesitate to answer this question: for the entrepreneur’s children, Mario Garnero is, above all, a winner as a father. A present father – or maybe a present as a father? So many tasks and duties in his professional life don’t prevent Mario Garnero from building a sound family life at the same time. With his first wife, Ana Maria Monteiro de Carvalho, he had Mario Bernardo (in 1965), Álvaro (1968) and Fernando (1970). In a very unusual decision for separation cases, he won his children custody after Garnero e Ana divorce in 1979. Already used to great responsibilities, the entrepreneur didn’t get scared with what would be the greatest challenge of his life until then, to raise three children. On the contrary: for Garnero, to be a father represented a opportunity to share with those he loves his wide range of values and personal experiences. According to Fernando Garnero, his duties as a father never prevented him from being extremely present in his children’s lives. “During my childhood I learnt to practice love in my everyday life, in the way I treat all people, not only in professional life. Certainly our family bond has a lot to do with it. No matter how busy my father is, he was always constantly there in my life and my brother’s life. Having dinner with us every day, no exceptions, doing sports or taking us to the stadium, my father never put his family in second place”, tells Fernando.
