Software UTM2 Universal Testing Machine 2

UTM2 software has been developed by Matest on Windows platform to allow operators a better management and control of the Matest digital testing machines. Flexibility, operating rapidity, precision and automatic data storage are the main features of the software UTM2, conceived for the management and the execution of the most complex tests for those operators with limited computer skills. UTM2 Software includes pre-set test profiles, according to the EN specifications and the most important International Standards. Easy to install and to use, UTM2 is the best solution for anyone managing extensive production and for research and testing laboratories.

System requirements UTM2 licenses are available in different languages (Italian, English, French, Spanish, German, Polish, Czech, Slovak and Turkish; other languages are available upon request), and can be installed on the following operating systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 (upgrades would be available if new operating systems were released).

ACCELERATED POLISHING MACHINE DETERMINATION OF THE POLISHED STONE VALUE A128N EN 1097-8 / EN 1341 / EN 1342 / EN 1343 The machine measures the resistance of road aggregates, paving stones and blocks to the polishing action of vehicle tyres on a road surface. The digital control panel at the back side of the machine allows the operator to select the test time.

LOS ANGELES MACHINE A075 EN 1097-2 / EN 12697-17 / EN 12697-43 ASTM C131 This product is used to determine the aggregates resistance to fragmentation. The machine is supplied with an automatic digital counter for the management of the revolutions. Also available with CE security cabinet, lined with sound-proofing material for noise reduction.

MICRO-DEVAL TESTING MACHINE A077 EN 1097-1 / EN 13450 Designed to determine the resistance of aggregates to abrasion. The machine accepts up to 4 cylinders simultaneously and is supplied with a separate control panel with an automatic digital revolution counter. Also available with CE security cabinet, lined with sound-proofing material for noise reduction.


COMPRESSION UNIAXIAL AND TRIAXIAL ELASTIC MODULUS ON ROCKS Automatic system with pace rate control also during the load release. A150N UNI 9724-8 / ASTM D7012 The system can be used with Matest high stability compression machines with capacity of 2000 or 3000 kN, combined with the automatic servocontrolled system “Servo-Plus Evolution” (code C104N, page 21). MATEST GYRATORY COMPACTOR B041 EN 12697-10 / EN 12697-31 / ASTM D6925 / AASHTO T312 / SHRP M-002 The gyratory compactor is used to simulate the real compaction conditions achieved under actual road paving operations, hence determining the compaction properties of asphalts. This model is entirely designed and manufactured by Matest; it works combining an electromechanical rotation with a pneumatically operated vertical pressure. It accepts standard or perforated moulds for emulsified asphalts with diameter of 100 and 150 mm. The machine is equipped with digital PC-based (Windows) control unit with full colour and touch screen display for the management, control and visualization of test data, screens and graphs.

AUTOMATIC RING AND BALL APPARATUS B070N EN 1427 / ASTM D36 This high technology apparatus has been developed by Matest R&D staff to determine automatically the softening point of asphalts and pitches, assuring high quality and affordable results. Main features:

• large graphic display 320x240 pixel

• RS 232 port for PC connection

• user-friendly menu for test control during all phases

• top quality components: laser sensors, electronic magnetic stirrer, ceramic glass heating plate

• memory capacity: up to 300 tests

ROLLER COMPACTOR B039 EN 12697-33 The machine has been developed and manufactured entirely by Matest and is used to produce representative sample slabs of several dimensions of bituminous mixtures laid and compacted on site. The compaction is performed through a segmented roller with alternated operated rotation which simulates the on-site action of a street roller. The compaction cycle can be programmed in accordance to a certain load or deformation value. The flexibility of the program grants the production of samples with uniform density and dimensions, fully meeting Standards specifications and research requirements; these samples are compatible for rut test with Matest Wheel Tracking apparatus B038. The sample slabs can be also cored or cut off to obtain cylinders and beams for bending fatigue, indirect tensile, static and dynamic creep, stiffness, and 4-point tests. Main features:

WHEEL TRACKING APPARATUS B038 EN 12697-22 / BS 598:110 Wheel tracker is designed to assess the resistance to rutting of bituminous samples under conditions that simulate closely the effect of slow moving traffic. The apparatus has a data acquisition and processing system for automatic test control. The test is conceived for laboratory application: a rubber tyred wheel of outside diameter of 200 mm is loaded with 700N ± 10 (EN Standard) or 520N (BS Standard) and rolled over a rectangular or cylindrical sample held on a moving table under constant and controlled temperature. The load is applied on the sample through a lever and the wheel penetration (rut depth) is measured in real time by means of a linear transducer of 40 mm travel, 0.01 mm accuracy. Matest Wheel Tracker accepts samples with dimensions up to 400x500 mm, 180 mm high (this mould can be used with Matest Roller Compactor). Test results can be automatically downloaded when a serial connection is activated and data transmission to PC is obtained through the RS 232 port. Once the results have been sent to a PC, the operator will be able to analyse them - as described by the Standards - and to issue the test certificate. No software installation is required as data acquisition can be easily obtained through the Hyperterminal program that is provided with almost all computers. The text file can be also imported into Word or Excel programs for data analysis and test certificate issue.

BITUMEN CONTENT FURNACE BY IGNITION METHOD B005 EN 12697-39 / EN 13108 / ASTM D6307 / NCAT (National Centre for Asphalt Technology) The unit provides automatically the asphalt content of bituminous paving mixtures with an accuration of 0.11%. The ignition method is fast, accurate, environmentally friendly and cost effective, and replaces the costly and time consuming solvent extraction method.

BITUMEN - ASPHALT

AUTOMATIC BINDER EXTRACTION UNIT B008 EN 12697-1 / EN 13108 / ASTM D2172 Used for precise and reliable analysis on bituminous mixtures. It determines the quantity of binder or bitumen contained in pavement samples and hot mixed mixtures by means of no cancer producing solvents (PCE), R40 classification.

CENTRIFUGE EXTRACTOR 1500/3000 g CAPACITY B011 EN 12697-1 clause B.1.5 / EN 13108 ASTM D2172 The centrifuge extractor is used for the determination of bitumen percentage in bituminous mixtures. Supplied complete with rotation speed regulator and digital display for frequency monitoring. Other models available: “explosion proof” (code B011-01) and centrifuge with safety electromagnetic micro-switch system.

CONTINUOUS FLOW FILTERLESS CENTRIFUGE B014 EN 12697-1 clause B.2.1 / EN 13108 / ASTM D1856 Designed for a quick filterless separation of filler from binder solution - or other mixtures containing sediments in suspension (cement, soil, clay) - by means of the continuous flow system (11500 rpm).

Available models: manual or automatic compactors for moulds of different diameters, in accordance to EN and ASTM Standards.

VACUUM PYKNOMETER 10 LITRES CAPACITY B067N EN 12697-5 / EN 13108 / ASTM D2041 Determination of theoretical maximum specific gravity of uncompacted bituminous paving mixtures (Rice-Test). This product is designed for a rapid determination of: asphalt content in bituminous mixtures, bulk specific gravity of aggregates, max. theoretical specific gravity of bituminous uncompacted road mixtures, and percentage of air voids in compacted mixtures.

PENETROMETERS: STANDARD, SEMI-AUTOMATIC, DIAL OR DIGITAL B056 KIT / B056-01 KIT EN 1426 / ASTM D5 Ruggedly constructed, Matest penetrometers are used to determine the consistency of a bituminous sample under fixed conditions of load, time and temperature. The penetration is expressed in distance of tenths of millimeters vertically penetrated into the sample by a standard needle. Available models: standard or semi-automatic, dial or digital.

OVEN FOR “ROLLING THIN-FILM” TEST B066 KIT EN 12607-1 / ASTM D2872 The oven measures the air and heat effect on a moving film of asphaltic semisolid materials. Made of stainless steel with an insulated fiberglass intermediate chamber, the oven is provided with a large glass door for inspections and a dual safety thermostat to prevent accidental over-heatings.

WATER BATHS FOR MARSHALL SPECIMENS, STANDARD AND DIGITAL B052 EN 12697-34 / EN 13108 / ASTM D1559 / ASTM D5581 Water baths are suitable for general laboratory use and conceived to maintain specimens submerged into water at a constant temperature of:

• 60°C ± 1°C for Marshall specimens

PLATE BEARING EQUIPMENT FOR ROAD PAVEMENT B103-05 KIT NF P94-117-1 Designed to calculate the static deformation of flexible road pavement (EV2) in the centre of the loading plate. The equipment consists of: 600 mm dia. bearing plate made of cast aluminium with reinforcing ribs and coupling device, hydraulic loading jack 200 kN capacity, hand pump, rubber pipe with fast connector, set of extension rods of different lengths, carrying case, precision pressure gauge 0-200 kN div. 1 kN, and upper spherical seat.

BENKELMAN BEAM APPARATUS B100 The apparatus is made of aluminium alloy and supplied complete with dial indicator and accessories. STANDARD AND DIGITAL PLATE BEARING EQUIPMENTS 100kN, 200kN, 500kN S224-01 KIT ASTM D1194 / ASTM D1195 / ASTM D1196 / BS 1377:9 The bearing plate is used for the determination of the bearing capacity and deformation modulus of soils on road constructions, foundations, road subgrades, airport and highway pavements. Different models are available, each one equipped with different accessories in accordance to the International Standards:

LIQUID LIMIT: CASAGRANDE METHOD S170 ASTM D4318 / NF P94-051 The equipment establishes when a clay soil changes from a plastic to a liquid state.

PARTICLE SIZE ANALYSIS OF SOIL S155 KIT This kit is used to determine the quantitative size distribution of very fine particles in soils such as clay and silt. Two models are available:

• complete set for Hydrometer method (ASTM, AASHTO, UNE)

• complete set for Pipette method (BS 1377:2)

Two models are available:

BLUE METHYLENE TEST SET S157 KIT EN 933-9 The set is used to determine the quantity of clay in fine portions of aggregates. Matest also offers the automatic model (code S157-20) that grants accurate and repeatable test results, saving time (approx. 30 minutes for each test).
