Why they were created? To consolidate the first progress report of the Program of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA; 2010) and its update (2011-2015) for the Amazon biome.

What is the REDPARQUES? The Latin American Network of Technical Cooperation in National Parks, other Protected Areas, Wild Flora and Fauna (REDPARQUES) is a technical mechanism constituted by public and private institutions and by specialists of the member countries of the region that work on protected areas, wild flora and fauna. Its objective is to progressively increase the technological and management capacity, based on the capacity building and knowledge among the members, using their own technical, human and financial resources.

Our recommendation
Through the work with thematic groups, REDPARQUES will continue its contribution to the administration and management effectiveness of protected area systems, facilitating the capacity building and the consolidation of the Amazonian Vision.

Report PoWPA update (2016-2017) for the Amazon biome.
Identify the approaches and visions of the countries to put into practice the principles of good governance of IUCN at biome level.

Report the progress in the fulfillment of Aichi Target 11 for the Amazonian countries and the biome.
Prioritize the financial mechanisms for the design of the biome PoWPA financial sustainability strategy.
Generate inputs and feedback in the Analysis of climate change vulnerability and the conservation opportunities Atlas in the Amazon biome under considerations of climate change.
The challenge
Ensuring the maintenance of the thematic groups beyond the projects to generate joint processes that dynamize the work of the Amazonian Vision.

Retake and maintain this good practice to guarantee the consolidation of the Amazonian Vision and the strengthening of technical capacities at regional level.
