Announcing New Head of School Scott McLarty

n March 14, 2019 the Providence High School Board of Regents unanimously voted to accept the recommendation of the Search Committee for Mr. Scott McLarty to become the next Head of Providence High School, effective July 1, 2019.
In addition to the previously noted roles, he has served in many other school positions in his career. He has taught religious studies for grades 9-12. He has also been the Director of Admissions at Bellarmine College Preparatory and adjunct professor at DePaul University. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Hollywood School House.
Mr. McLarty comes to PHS with sixteen years of experience in the field of Catholic education. He began his leadership career as president of the Saint Ignatius Teachers Association and continued as director of the Office for Peace and Justice at the Archdiocese of Chicago, and most recently was the head of Mercy High School in San Francisco. During his time at Mercy he secured the two largest single donations in the school’s history. Mr. McLarty is reflective, thoughtful, articulate, warm, and engaging. He is excited to be Head of School at PHS as this is an opportunity to move into a school that already has a strong reputation and is operating from a position of strength. He appreciates working for sponsored schools as he has done throughout his career. These schools benefit from a clear identity and a shared language, stories, and histories—all of which is powerful in informing the life and work of the school.
Mr. McLarty has impressive and broad academic credentials. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in English/Theology/Social Justice from Loyola University Chicago. He is currently working on his Ed.D. in Catholic Educational Leadership at the University of San Francisco. McLarty immerses himself in his community. While in San Francisco he was a board member and chair of Breathe California of the Bay Area. He was also co-chair of a project based learning (PBL) committee in San Jose. During his tenure in Santa Clara, he volunteered his time for the Pastoral Council at St. Clare Parish. “The world needs schools like Providence and its mission is as relevant today as it was at its founding in 1955. My time on campus allowed me to feel the warmth of the community, the energy and intellectual engagement of the students, the passion and professionalism of the faculty and staff, and the mission and charism of the Sisters of Providence. I could not be more excited to start my journey as a Pioneer and serve PHS as Head of School,” said McLarty.
“I am so grateful to the Search Committee, Board of Regents, Providence St. Joseph Health, and the entire Providence High School community for entrusting me with this position. I am excited to join the PHS community because of its rich history of educational excellence in service of the common good, especially the poor and vulnerable,” reflected McLarty.
