The high tensile strength offered by this trilaminate fabric protects the wearer from fluid and particulate penetration without compromising on mobility or comfort. Portwest have several garments made with SMS in the Biztex range.

Portwest’s Biztex Micro fabric is a polypropolene substrate to which a polyethylene film is applied (PP/PE). The outer layer prevents the passage of liquid molecules inwards yet allows the vapour molecules that build up on the inside of the fabric to pass out. This technology keeps the wearer fresh and comfortable. Biztex micro has the added benefit of having an anti- static coating that provides protection against electrostatic buildup.

MICRO

SMS Portwest’s SMS is an integrated three layer polypropylene construction. Formed by layering spunbound, meltblown and spunbound the fabric is strong and durable as well as being soft and breathable.

For workers at risk from chemical splash who also may come into contact with flame or flash fire, the flame retardant Biztex SMS fabric is a obvious choice. The SMS fabric is an integrated three layer polypropylene construction. Formed by layering spunbound, meltblown and spunbound the fabric is strong and durable as well as being soft and breathable. This fabric is then treated with an FR coating which conforms to the flame retardancy standard EN14116.

PRODUCTION & CERTIFICATION

WORLD CLASS PRODUCTION FACILITY

Our world-class production facility is independently audited every year. Portwest Biztex suits deliver consistent quality so customers are always guaranteed their suits meet the Standard.

Centrocot Test House Established in Italy in 1987, Centrocot is one of the most advanced test houses in the textile and clothing sector. Accredited to carry out more than 400 tests they provide market leading testing and certification services for many global companies.

THE PORTWEST BIZTEX RANGE IS COMPRISED OF TYPE 6 LIQUID AEROSOL AND TYPE 5 DRY PARTICULATE SUITS. ISO 16602:2007 ESTABLISHES MINIMUM PERFORMANCE CLASSIFICATION AND LABELING REQUIREMENTS FOR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING DESIGNED TO PROVIDE PROTECTION AGAINST CHEMICALS. THE TEST METHODS USED TO TEST FOR THIS STANDARD ARE LAID OUT BELOW. ABRASION RESISTANCE

To test the abrasion resistance of a fabric, a swatch of fabric is mounted onto felt backed plate and secured free from wrinkles and folds in the fabric. An abrasive paper is used with a consistent downward pressure on the fabric. The fabric’s performance is measured by comparing its performance against a sample to which the abrasive paper has not been applied.

FLEX CRACKING RESISTANCE

To test the resistance to flexing of plastic or rubber coated fabrics like Biztex micro a swatch of fabric is mounted onto two cylinders. The cylinders are moved backwards and forwards in a straight line, which flexes the plastic coating. The fabric’s performance is measured by comparing its performance against a sample to which has not undergone the flex text. This test is also performed at –30 degrees to test the fabric’s performance at low temperatures.
