Digital technologies being used to face the pandemic Introduction

The year 2020 should have been the start of an exciting decade in medicine and science, with the development and maturation of several digital technologies that can be applied to tackle major clinical problems and diseases. Meanwhile, the world continues to rely on classic publichealth measures for tackling the COVID19 pandemic, in 2020. But there is now a wide range of digital technology that can be used to augment and enhance these public-health strategies. The Improvements “The coronavirus, most We can find some known by COVID-19 opportunities stemming created a world pandemic from the use of digital that has exerted a technology in response tremendous impact on to COVID-19, including the tourism industry teleworking, reducing worldwide, affecting the the digital divide, economy of many ensuring education and countries in the world. As learning. Most of these the pandemic progressed, ideas are being numerous technologies implemented in many have been used and countries. In conclusion, developed in this period we can say that the of time” appearance of coronavirus made the technologies improve, giving people new ways to live.

6

Techs and devices we can no longer live without

Technology and devices, such as mobile phones, computers, TVs, among other devices, assist us in obtaining and analyzing data in real time. With that information, we can monitor our interventions, as well as the evolution of the pandemic. In addition, technology allows remote work, which alleviates the negative impact of social detachment on our economy. For example: children started taking online classes and, to get a little distracted, as they can't socialize, they tend to play online games or watch movies and series. 7

Human Rights

“Human rights must be integral to any digital response within or beyond the COVID-19 crisis. They must be protected online and offline and citizens must feel safe in the both the real and virtual worlds. Digital rights including access to affordable and accessible internet, data privacy, accessible and accurate information, and open, transparent and ethical digital standards should be the norm, even in times of crisis.

8

Participants of the session stressed that human rights have to be integrated into any social or public health response to the crisis and that when using technology, authorities must strive to be as open and as transparent as possible. Within this context, it was stressed that data should be considered a public good and that access to information is key to keeping the virus from spreading.”

Prejudices for the future

“269 articles discuss the main effects that were produced from digital technology use during the COVID‐19 pandemic and were sorted into four subcategories. The primary activity subcategories are Healthcare, Education, Daily use, and Telework. Each subcategory has a list of generalized activities and the number next to them indicates the number of articles that the activity was present in.

The reigning effects found in our rapid review are related to technology's capacity to reduce the transmission of the virus and alter how we operate to become remote. For example, Cai & Cai discussed the ways that VR + 5G were used at a university hospital in Zhejiang, China to “cut the infection rate of medical staff on the front line of the COVID‐19 epidemic.” 9

Meanwhile, Wang reviewed the ways that Taiwan used digital technology to effectively respond as a society to the pandemic and compared it to their 2003 SARS experience. The results indicated that the digital solutions they implemented during COVID‐19 significantly protected and supported public health. Notice the effort to produce effects such as “delivering care at a distance” and “continuing education in context with safe distancing”.

10

Also, a further general effect of technology use during the pandemic was the transformation of turning offline tasks into online activities. While not all effects required this transformation and were previously being done digitally, there were a significant number of effects that would not have been achieved without this transformation.”

Conclusion All sectors of society have a role in ensuring that we leave no one and no place behind. In the current and post response to COVID-19, it will be essential for Local and Regional Governments to foster innovative partnerships with civil society and the private sector, to address and progressively close the digital divide. Through these partnerships we can build from this crisis, making access to technology the new normal. Also, Local and Regional Governments must keep in mind that digital technologies are only a means to an end and not an end in themselves. The objective of using technology is that it can be used to help reduce inequalities, lower the risk of spreading the virus, and ease access to public services during the crisis. “In this regard, the participants of the Live Learning Experience stressed that technology should be seen as an enabler that permits all stakeholders to collaborate in combating inequality and COVID-19 and shouldn't to infringe citizens’ digital rights in doing so. Four-legged friends Throughout the centuries the relationships between animals and humans have been evolving and, some of those animals, became our best friends (especially during the Covid-19 pandemic). People shouldn’t tag animals with prices, because they can be as loyal as humans, or even more. In this article we will be discussing this theme (focused primarily on dogs). How animals are important to us; how we can improve their lives; what they feel during the pandemic; what are the best ways to improve the Human-dog relationship and so many other things.

23

Adoption and abandonment in Portugal during the pandemic

The situation of abandonment and adoption of animals varies greatly from country to country, but in Portugal the situation was not initially encouraging. Many animals were found abandoned in the first 6 months of 2020. And, unfortunately, the known figures are only a part of it. It is still necessary to count the animals abandoned in associations and kennels, and those who have simply been left on their own out in the open. Fortunately, there are several associations that are trying to fight abandonment. Some people are adopting animals (because they need company) helping to give abandoned animals a new home. Perhaps it will be possible to “decrease” the drop-out rate and increase the adoption rate this year, in Portugal. 24

Benefits of adopting an animal Depending on the animal that you adopt, the advantages change. Some animals can be very good fellows and open new possibilities for you to be able to reinvent yourself. On the other side, there are animals which are not as sociable but it has its advantages: we can spend more time away from home because they don’t need constant care or attention. They reduce your stress and anxiety levels.

It is scientifically proven that people who own an animal have lower levels of stress. Even though they can’t talk, animals have the extraordinary ability of making us feel calm! These little friends are able to reduce the blood pressure, the cholesterol and triglyceride levels just with their presence, providing a better and happier life to their owners. 25

They encourage being outdoors and keep you fit

Do you want to exercise but you feel lazy? Having a pet, such as a dog, may help you with that. These kinds of animals need daily walks to stay happy and healthy and, even though, staying on the couch all day seems to be a better option we also need to get some air, to see the sun and of course, to keep ourselves active.

They improve your immune system

We cannot deny the fact that our little friends allow the entrance of germs and bacteria into our homes, but this is not always a bad thing! Studies have proved that these germs and bacteria help you improve your immune system. This way, children who grow up with animals around have less chances to get sick and experience fewer infections.

26

They make you more responsible

Having a pet is not just having fun and playing with them, it also has a lot of responsibilities. Having an animal requires a lot of time and effort. You have to feed them, clean their cages, take them to the vet… And yes, it seems a lot, but these tasks will make you more responsible and seeing your little friend happy makes it all worth it. You will never feel lonely

If you have a problem with loneliness, get a pet and your lonely days will be over. Animals are great partners! They love spending time with their owners and always try to make them feel good. And do you know what is the best part? They never get tired of it! They stay by your side no matter what and always make you feel safe, so make sure you treat them well, with a lot of kindness because they deserve it. 27

How to entertain an animal Well, it is clear that our pets need a lot of attention and sometimes we cannot provide it. Due to the pandemic, we are spending most of our time at home, but we still need to focus on work or things we have to study, and having our pets begging for attention can distract us a little bit. So here are three tips to keep them entertained! Toys

It is no mystery that pets enjoy playing, so giving them toys is a good way to keep them distracted. This way you will have the peace you need to focus on your work.

28

Noise

In order to keep our animals happy and healthy, is important to talk with them. So, when you can’t be with them, turn on some music or even the radio, so they don’t feel lonely.

Hiding treats

It’s an interesting way to keep our pets busy and win some time to do your things. But make sure you hide a reasonable amount of food.

Healthy homemade pet food recipes

Homemade kibble is far beyond simply being homemade food to give your pets. It consists in not feeding them processed food with any chemical additives. The ration must also be balanced in the right proportions established by a nutritionist according to the species, age, breed, lifestyle and health. It can or not be cooked, contain or not bones and must be properly supplemented according to the necessity of each individual. Saying this, it's very important to keep tracking the animal, in need of making some changes and to adapt to the given response.

So, what kind of messages do teens need to receive?

As kids grow up they hit a mark of “teenaging”. This era is incredibly hard, teens are in a process of change. With the hormones jumping around, young people get rebellious. YOU must think about yourself in a selfless way. By protecting yourself, you protect everyone. How do you deal with the anxiety that this is provoking?

You are not alone. Everyone is having a hard time, so use that time to help others, by being altruistic. Be responsible!

Everyone has responsibility in this pandemic. Stay safe, don’t share objects, but share your mind by helping others. 43

Conclusion

Clearly, Covid is a big problem to society. As a young boy or a young girl, you have an important role in helping get this straight. Students are in the middle of the greatest contagious place - the school. So, be safe and think about yourself. That way, you’re also caring about others!
