A NOTE FROM PROJECT OH! There isn’t too much to say this month. We are still just pushing forward on the remainder of our projects for this year. Our next two shows will be the The Get Down Art Show #6 (Halloween Edition) and a Zine Fest in November. We are still aiming to release prints of our next three magazines during our upcoming events. Our next print run will be for Issue #13 (Horror) which we will have available at TGAS #6. Memberships We are currently gathering art for our next subscription box that we will send out for the final quarter of 2017. We will have some Halloween inspired artwork in the next box. If you aren’t already a member, you can check out the link below for more information. projectoh.com/memberships/ See you next month! — The Project Oh! Team
SCI-FI/FANTASY ISSUE
SURREAL/ABSTRACT
GRAFFITI/BODY ART
We are still taking submissions. Send us your photos, artwork, cosplays or short stories that fit around the theme of science fiction, fantasy, superheroes, comic book characters, etc.
For this issue we want to see some cool weird art. We are looking first for surreal artwork of any kind, and then anything else that might be a bit more abstract.
This already has a bit of content but we are looking for more “alternative canvas” type art (tattoos, bodypainting, graffiti) and some urban style street art.

Last Month’s Figure Drawing The following images are from August’s figure drawing session. Our model for August was first-timer Wendy Wallace who did an excellent job. Regular sessions are $15 and held monthly during the last Saturday of each month from 12:20 to 3:30pm. Additional sessions are added periodically on varying days and times. We currently have two nude sessions and one costume session scheduled for September.

A little bit about you. I was born in Long Beach, CA, and moved to Bakersfield when I was five. I enjoy staying busy and productive and I’m always wanting to be creating things. I love all forms of art and I wish that I was good at all of them, but my strength is painting.
Explain a little bit about your style. If I had to label my style of artwork, the closest thing that I can think of would be expressionistic. Also, I’m obsessed with using crazy wild colors, and I love to use black. (Thank you college art teacher who said black is a ‘no,no’) What inspired you to do art? I have always been intrigued with art and the creation of things. My mom used to teach me different styles and techniques when I was little, and I’ve just loved it ever since. How long have you been doing art? I can’t remember not doing art. My earliest memories include coloring and digging in my Mom’s art supplies. I didn’t get serious about being a painter until I was a late teen. What are your passions? Favorite Styles? I’m very passionate about art and theatre, and I also love to help people and volunteer my time when I can. Favorite artists? Van Gogh is definitely my favorite artist. His style is what made me determined to find my own.
Want to be a featured artist? We love getting to know our art community. Let us know you are out there and looking to colaborate or become a featured artist by filling out our artist survey online at projectoh.com/artist-survey. We use this information for featurettes and scouting artists for new projects.
Why do you think art is important? Art is important because it keeps us stimulated and engaged. It’s a form or expression without having to sit and have a conversation with someone. How long have you been working at empty space? I have been with The Empty Space as Gallery Director for more than five years and have curated more than 60 art shows. What do you like about it? My favorite thing about TES are the other board members and our patrons. I have met some of my best friends there. Why do you think it is important? I think The Empty Space is important because it gives the community somewhere to go where they can learn. When I started as Gallery Director, I knew zero about curating. But through hard work and determination, I was able to use the tools that TES gave me to become great at my job. And that applies to anyone, if anyone comes to us in the community and wants to get into acting, painting, set building, or tech, all they have to do is show us that they are passionate about learning, and we will do our best to teach and lead them in the right direction.
