What is important for good LED lighting ?

LED lighting is not just a question of the LED light sources.

A lot of other factors have to be considered: • Optimal thermal conditions are essential to achieve long life and utilise LED light sources as efficiently as possible • LED light source and driver have to match in order to obtain the highest light output • Colour rendering has to be a least Ra>=80 to obtain the best reproduction of natural light • The degree of colour variance (MacAdam’s factor) between each LED has to be as low as possible (SDCM<=3) for the most uniform colour experience • A high lm/W gives a more energy efficient lighting solution and is a better efficiency indicator than light output ratio (LOR) • The optical solution must be adapted to the LED light source for the highest possible efficiency and glare control

LED technology makes dynamic lighting very effective New LED technology makes it possible to â&#x20AC;&#x153;mimicâ&#x20AC;? sunlight during the day and create the best possible conditions for people staying indoors.

Over the past few years, there have been several studies in this field that describe the positive effect of artificial dynamic lighting to support the human circadian rhythm.

The artificial dynamic lighting is created by tunable white luminaires and intelligent control A dynamic lighting solution can control the amount of light (lux) and the colour temperature (degrees Kelvin).

The special design of the LED boards offers optimum control of white light, from 2700 Kelvin to 6500 Kelvin in combination with the lux level. The boards deliver high performance along the black body curve with excellent colour rendering (Ra>80). This is the basis for our Tunable White product range.

The lighting can be controlled by using either a DMX or DALI solution that can be programmed to follow a time schedule or to use different scenarios that can be selected manually in different areas.

The result is greater comfort and a better environment for the user, offering high-quality visual mimicking of the rhythm of sunlight.

Dynamic lighting is very useful in offices, dark corridors, hospitals and other healthcare areas where the effect on human behaviour and mood is useful.

Controls for dynamic lighting

Dynamic lighting is not only Tunable White luminiares.They have to be controlled. Riegens recommends the STICK control for the DMX solution. For DALI solutions there are several options depending on the specific project.

STICK-GU2 Beauty, simplicity and control The STICK-GU 2 is one of our most exciting developments within the architectural market. The controller comes pre loaded with RGB effects and can be programmed with the Easy Stand Alone software.

STICK-DE3 The lighting controller that everybody understands The third generation STICK is the flagship controller.

Integrating a color display and compatibility with computer software and mobile apps, the controller has been designed to accept the most challenging projects with ease.

The STICK-DE3 can be adapted to any environment. Control dynamic lighting inside a house, bar, office block, shopping center, hotel or even a landmark. With 1024 DMX output channels and the ability to store 500 scenes across 10 zones, the DE3 is one of the best value controllers on the market today.

The STICK-DE3 is based on 4 modes. Scholl around the touch sensitive wheel to change the dimmer, colour, speed or scene or tap around the wheel for direct acces to a value. The arrows can be used to step through values.

With a lighting control system it is possible to make dynamic light effects in any lighting environment wherever itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a DMX or DALI system. DMX

DALI DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is a well-known international digital protocol that enables dimmable control gear, transformers and controllers from different manufactures to be mixed and matched into a single control system.

The DALI control gear provides full dimming capabilities, on/off switching and the built-in intelligence offers a two-way digital communications with individual fault reporting to a central control unit.

In a DALI installation it is possible to address the individual ballasts (64 addresses) allowing changes to the system to be achieved by simply reprogramming the control gear.

DMX DMX (512) is the established communications protocol for intelligent lighting control, most commonly used in the entertainment industry, but is becoming more and more popular in other applications areas, based on the needs for a more precise form of controlling intelligent architectural lighting.

DMX stands for Digital MultipleX. In a multiplex system, multiple devices are linked using only one cable, but control commands can be sent to individual devices.

The DMX system is ideal for TW/RGB installations and therefore is one of the options available to control the Riegens TW concept.

Tunable White (TW) luminaires with DALI control gear can be controlled by dimming the illumination level (lux) or the white colour temperature (2700-6500Kelvin).
