AI has become essential for many sectors, but Hikvision goes beyond just embedding AI into existing products.
In this issue, we announce the 2024 Benchmark Innovation Awards winners, celebrating the ingenuity that continues to propel the security industry forward. This year’s winners represent a spectrum of cutting-edge products designed to solve real-world challenges, driving the sector toward more intelligent and efficient solutions.
Congratulations to the winners and runners-up, and thank you to everyone who participated by casting their votes. The industry is pushing the boundaries, and the future of security holds significant promise, with these innovations taking centre stage.
The 2024 Benchmark Innovation Awards shed light on several key trends shaping security’s future.
AI-driven solutions, a growing force in the sector, continue to transform security management. Innovations like i-PRO’s X-Series and Hanwha Vision’s analytics platform leverage AI to enhance real-time monitoring and forensic capabilities. This shift toward smarter, adaptive systems underscores the increasing role of AI in the industry’s evolution.
Integration is also a standout trend. Products like Hikvision’s TandemVu PTZ cameras and CathexisVision 2024 are leading the way by combining multiple functions into single platforms. These products improve operational efficiency and situational awareness by offering a broader surveillance view alongside detailed close-ups.
Sustainability is gaining traction as a business imperative. Webeye’s Vigileyez, with its impressive 700-day battery life, and barox’s energy-efficient Ethernet switch, reflect the growing demand for eco-friendly security solutions that do not compromise on performance.
Meanwhile, the industry’s pivot toward cloudbased systems redefines how security solutions

The demand for physical security solutions among small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) is surging. As these businesses grow, so do their security needs, which range from protecting assets to ensuring employee safety. Unlike residential security systems, SMB-focused solutions cater
to commercial spaces such as offices, warehouses, and retail stores, addressing businesses’ distinct risks. In this article, Harshada Dive shares Allied Market Research’s findings on the global physical security market.
Advancements in technology have made these solutions more affordable and easier to install, even for companies
Security teams face increasing demands to protect complex environments while managing tight budgets. Imagine a bustling city centre, with thousands of pedestrians, vehicles, and activities happening simultaneously. Security here is critical for crime prevention, public safety, and monitoring hightraffic areas such as public squares, shopping streets, and transportation hubs.
In a traditional setup, a city centre would require numerous standalone cameras to monitor various zones, including pedestrian crossings, bus stops, public parks, and retail areas. Each camera would need its own power supply, network connection, and video management system (VMS) license. Installing such a system across a sprawling urban landscape involves complex cabling, extensive infrastructure work, and high upfront costs. Maintaining these cameras is equally demanding, with technicians needed to manually adjust each unit for optimal coverage. This results in a costly, laborintensive system that is not always flexible to rapidly changing urban environments or evolving threats.
Now imagine the same city centre equipped with Hanwha Vision’s multi-directional AI cameras. A single, strategically placed multi-directional camera can simultaneously monitor multiple zones—such as a busy
public square, a shopping street, and nearby bus stops—using its multiple lenses and advanced AI analytics. This drastically reduces the number of cameras required to cover large areas and eliminates the need for multiple VMS licenses, power supplies, and network connections.
The PTRZ (pan, tilt, rotate, zoom) remote adjustment feature allows security personnel
