FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, DOORS at 7pm.

Fashion Prize is a year-long fashion design competition beginning with the opening of registrations in January and culminating at Prize Fest in October. Competition Designers are provided with a series of fashion-oriented mentorship workshops, professional critiques, and peer support.

Finalists will compete during the Fashion Prize event at Prize Fest before a panel of nationally-recognized judges along with a live audience.

Fashion Prize Finalists

Jules Eckelkamp

Jules has been studying fashion design since attending Centenary College of Louisiana. She has worked in theaters across the country as well as in alterations, bridal, and couture shops. She also runs an Etsy shop, Ginger Goddess Studio, where she sells vintage pieces she’s collected and hand-embroidered patch art.

Jessica Hall

Jessica began sewing by hand at age 8. She attended Arkansas Tech University on a costume scholarship and continued at LSU in Baton Rouge. Jessica received an apprenticeship as seamstress to the University of Colorado at Boulder for the 2002 Summer Shakespeare Festival.

Sara Kluss

Sara loves everything about the fashion industry and has been passionate about fashion since she was young. She has worked in a variety of roles in the fashion/creative industry such as fashion show dresser, design intern, and a seamstress. Her work takes its inspiration from vintage fashion styles and icons.

Brittani Shabazz

Brittani is a self-taught womens and menswear designer from Shreveport, Louisiana. Shabazz is owner of Berri Shabazz Clothing. She has a passion for all things colorful, sparkly and different. Shabazz competed in 2019 and 2020 Fashion Prize. She designs for private clients and for runway.

Donna Strebeck

Donna is known for her creative and inspired use of unique textures and unusual fabrics when creating soft sculptures, wall art pieces, and original fashion designs. Though considered selftaught, Donna credits much of her creativity to the influence of talented artists on both sides of her family.

Catalina Ramirez Varela

Catalina is beginner-level on stitching but near master level on imagination and crafting pieces of art. She offers her collection with a poem: Catalina RV; Where are you from? Walking the ground of where my roots grow; I move with the water as my life flows; I get to an end and stand up to roam; the streets of this city where you can find endless possibilities in your own room! 15
