FROM THE COMMODORE

T

he 2015 Commodore’s Cruise through the British Virgin Islands was a big success. Based on the feedback I have received, everyone enjoyed the sailing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding and our festive gatherings. Special thanks to Alisa Bekins for coordinating our impressive SWAG and the Opening Party, the White Party and the big finale - the Pirate Party. Thanks to Chris Lacey for coordinating the rendezvous with members of the St. Francis Yacht Club to witness the coin toss for the 2015 San Francisco Cup. And, thanks to Jeffery Stein for taking so many great photos especially the group photo at the White Party and at the Pirate Party. This year’s Youth Sailing Fundraiser on March 10, hosted by the Belvedere Cove Foundation (BCF), was not only great fun but also a huge success. The funds raised go directly to supporting our world-class Youth Sailing Program. Special thanks to the BCF Board and especially S/C Kyle Elliott and Alison Elliott for leading the charge on this great event. Communication Timely communication is critical to members being knowledgeable of upcoming events and activities at the Club. The Bulletin will be published six times over the year, approximately every other month. In the interim the Board, Flag Officers, Auxiliary and Committees will be providing news on club activities in the Bow Wave, and on the front page at sfyc.org including updates on events, race results, cruise information, the Speaker Series and other information as needed. I encourage you to stay connected through the Bow Wave for updates including the Spring Member Meeting on April 14, the extremely popular Easter Brunch on April 5 and Opening Day on the Bay festivities on April 26. In May the big events are the wonderful Mother’s Day Brunch, the great Memorial Day BBQ and the playful Mother/Son Dinner Dance. The Bow Wave will also include updates on our adult summer sailing programs including Wednesday Night Match Racing and Thursday Night Womens’ Racing as well as a new and very exciting event on our race schedule - The Auxiliary Cup! Spouses of members are encouraged to send your email address to controller@sfyc.org so that we may be able to set you up with a User Name and a Password to enable you to use the links to events in the Bow Wave and on the front page at sfyc.org. Show Your Colors There are many ways to do this. Did you know that the Burgee Shop will personalize gear for you with The SFYC burgee? All you need to do is bring your gear to the Burgee Shop to send it out for embroidery or imprinting. Another BIG way to show your colors is to consider decorating your boat for Opening Day on the Bay! The Club Series While the winds were too light for the Rosenblum Regatta on March 14th, racers enjoyed a lovely afternoon on the deck. Thanks to Brent Crawford for arranging the sponsorship for the 2015 Club Series including Martin Ray Winery, Dry Creek Vineyard, Trummer Pils and Whole Foods Market. Go Team SFYC!
