Shon Hopwood:

»» Served 10 years in federal prison for a series of armed bank robberies. »» While incarcerated, Shon became an expert at post-conviction litigation. He wrote briefs that resulted in two U.S.


Supreme Court victories; he also wrote briefs that brought relief in numerous U.S. Circuit and U.S. District Courts. »» Earned law degree from University of Washington Law School after release. »» Clerked for The Honorable Judith Rodgers Brown in the D.C. Circuit court. »» Currently a tenure-track professor at Georgetown Law School.

Michael Santos:

»» Sentenced to 45 years in federal prison for leading a Continuing Criminal Enterprise in 1987.

»» While incarcerated, Michael earned a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University and a master’s degree from Hofstra University. He published seven books under his name, and he ghostwrote a dozen books while in prison. »» Three weeks after concluding 26 years in federal prison, in August of 2013, San Francisco State University hired Michael as an adjunct professor. He taught The Architecture of Mass Incarceration. He also guest lectured in universities across the United States, including Stanford Law School, Berkeley, and the University of California, Hastings School of Law, which published his article on sentence reform in the U.C. Hastings Law Journal. »» While teaching at San Francisco State University, Michael developed a series of digital courses


for Prison Professors. Our clients for Prison Professors courses include state and federal prison systems. More than 100,000 people pass through our Prison Professors courses each year. »» Michael’s success through prison and upon release in support from probation officers, U.S. Attorneys, members of the U.S. Parole Commission, and federal judges. Together, they supported granted early termination from his post-release supervision.

Justin Paperny:

»» Graduated from the University of Southern California and became a licensed stockbroker. Violations of securities laws resulted in Justin serving an 18-month sentence. »» While incarcerated, Justin began working with Michael Santos to develop programs that would help more people prepare for a success after a criminal charge. »» Upon his release from federal prison, Justin Paperny began building a series of digital platforms—including the popular WhiteCollarAdvice.com— that now make up Prison Professors,. »» Justin leads our Prison Professors’ lawyer directory, where we profile a maximum of 12 attorneys in each of the 94 different judicial districts. »» Justin coordinates distribution of our Prison Professors podcast, and our
