PRINT: So how long have you been painting? Adam: I started doing them [ paintings] in 2006, and just doing a couple small ones here and there. I really didn’t get serious with it until about 2008, and my first show was about 2 years ago – February 2009, and things just took off from there. Print: How did you start getting into 8bit paintings? Were you into video games before? Adam: Do you want to know the back story? PRINT: Yeah, I totally do! Adam: Okay, okay. I grew up on Nintendo games. I was raised on that. I still have my original Nintendo since I was 6 years old. Print: Nah-uh. Does it still work? Adam: It still works! Actually I just cleaned it and replaced the pin. I have an outrageous Nintendo/Super Nintendo collection. Print: We love the Spice Girls so.. Adam: Okay, fair enough. So all my roommates in college, including me, there were 8 of us and they knew me for being obsessed with retro games. I had my Nintendo and Super Nintendo in college so, we all played. So in my design class, one of the assignments was to take a famous painting. So I’m sitting in my room and my roommate comes in and he’s like “Adam. Your painting Nintendo games now for college credit?” I was like “You know what, that’s not a bad idea”. So I went online for some sprites I downloaded ones I loved. I love Megaman, Mario, and all the classics.
Print: So you do it by hand? Adam: No, no I used a ruler and draw a grid and do it that way. One of my friends commissioned me for a painting and a lot of people started liking it. One of my friends who books shows with me told me I needed to start doing shows. PRINT: Your pieces looks like you’ve been doing this for a long time. Adam: This is something that I started doing for the love of video games. I never really considered myself as a painter. I’m not traditional trained in painting on anything like that. I kind of figured out my technique along the way. I’m still refining my style. Print: What type of materials do you use to make your paintings? Adam: It’s all acrylic. I don’t use oils because I need the paint to dry fast. I just use a canvas, a brush, and acrylic paints.
PRINT: Whats your favorite pieces you’ve done so far? Adam: Oh, there’s so many! There’s a huge 4 foot x 2 foot intro from Megaman 9. I put this whole cityscape in
the background. I can never sell that piece, I love it. There’s another one, 3 foot x 2 foot from Earthbound, Super Nintendo game. It’s one of my favorite games of all time. Print: What would you like to say to all the people out there? Adam: I appericiate every last person that loves 8bit and 16bit games, and supports my work. P A The red panda (Ailurus fulgens, or shining cat), N
is a small arboreal mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. It is the only species of the genus Ailurus. Slightly larger than a domestic cat, it has reddish-brown fur, a long, shaggy tail, and a waddling gait due to its shorter front legs. It feeds mainly on bamboo, but is omnivorous and may also eat eggs, birds, insects, and small mammals. It is a solitary animal, mainly active from dusk to dawn, and is largely sedentary during the day. It is only distantly related to the giant panda.

Mannie Willis came up with a clothing line that embodies everything we love about independentclothing lables - creative with a mascot. Mannie started his clothing line after learning about a new animal named the Red Panda. Putting out cool, comfortable clothing came next and Distinct Nature was born. Also helping the enviroment, Distinct Nature is printed on 100% Organic materials with water based inks. Not bad for a Newport News native. For us, Distinct Nature is a line to watch in 2011. JOEY KING JOEY KING JOEY KING JOEY KING When people think of Lucasarts games, they usually think of two or three things, The Secret of Monkey Island, Star Wars games, and Sam and Max. But before all of these came out we had one game that made a huge impact, which a lot of people seem to look over because of the ladder. That game is Maniac Mansion. I’ve never understood this because this was one of the biggest adventure games of the late 80’s, and has also become my all-time favorite game. They actually made a game engine just for it called SCUMM (or Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion), which would get updated and used more and more over time. If it wasn’t for Maniac Mansion, we wouldn’t have games like The Secret of Monkey Island and more. I remember being a child and watching one of my friends play this game, we played it for HOURS but could never figure out how to beat it. We didn’t care, it was always a lot of fun to figure out how to make different things happen with all the characters, find all the different items, and see what we could do with all the things we found. In Maniac Mansion, you take the roll of Dave and his six friends (you can only pick two friends to go with Dave) to save his girlfriend Sandy from the evil clutches of Dr. Fred Edison. The game is loosely based on B horror film ideas, and is actually quite funny at times, with a squeeze of horror elements, but the game isn’t scary at all. Each playable character has different abilities to help you advance in the game (except Dave, I guess that’s why he needs help…), but each character will also make different outcomes for the story as well as the ending of the game. Bernard is the tech savvy geek who can fix or work on different electronic items, Windy is a writer, Syd and Razor are the musicians, Michael is a photographer and developer, and Jeff…well Jeff can fix phones…that’s it. In part two of this review we will go over the different endings, the music, and which version of the game is best overall! Please stay tuned for the next issue, coming very soon!

Christian metalcore band from Tampa, Florida. Founded by Dallas Taylor and Luke Mor ton on November 30, 1997in Ocala, Florida, subsequently its additional members were from Tampa, Florida.They are cur rently signed with Solid State Records, a subsidiary of Tooth and Nail Records.
