Fab Four Music In San Diego
More than five decades since their split, The Beatles remain one of the world’s most popular bands. On November 25-27 there will be a new three part documentary airing on Disney+; The Beatles: Get Back, directed / produced by Peter Jackson, reportedly complete with accompanying box set of unreleased “Let It Be” era tracks. The promotion surrounding these releases is sure to kick off a new burst in interest in the band, but truth be told San Diego is already a hotbed of Beatles fans – here are just a few of the Fab Four oriented happenings coming up. • Look for Beatles Fair to return to Queen Bee’s in 2022. While no artists have been announced yet, past headliners have included former Beatle Pete Best, Denny Laine of Wings / The Moody Blues, sixties hitmaker Billy J Kramer and Joey Molland of Badfinger, with such
notables as Louise Harrison, legendary drummer Liberty Devitto and author John Borack amongst the guests. • On August 27 & 28, the San Diego Musical Theatre Summer Concert Series at the Horton Grand Theatre, will feature costumed tribute band, Britain’s Finest • Meanwhile, early rising Beatles fans will want to check out Brunch & Brews with the Beatles: A Fundraiser for the OB Playhouse taking place on Aug 29, from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m. On hand will be The Rollers headed by Martin Martiarena (ex-Slide Away, True Stories etc.) with funds going to support the OB Playhouse &

Theatre Company. • Later on August 29, Humphrey’s Backstage Live will host a special Sunday evening concert. Featuring the Baja Bug’s with Hector Penalosa (The Zeros / Flying Color), the group will perform both “Meet The Beatles” and “The Beatles Second Album,” with special guest singers. 6 – 8 p.m. • On September 12, Classic Albums Live will perform Abbey Road in its entirety at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. • On October 23, guitarist Fred Benedetti will celebrate his 64th Birthday with a special show at Dizzy’s. special Beatles tribute shows in the past, it’s an easy guess which Fab Four classic from 1967 will take center stage on the night In related news, acclaimed bassist Nathan East appears on Ringo Starr’s upcoming Change The World EP (09/24/2021), playing upright bass on a cover of the Bill Haley classic “Rock Around The Clock.” This also seems like a good place to mention that guitarist Wayne Riker’s new album, A Beatles Overture From A-Z, is now available via his website. Riker is the 2019 SDMA Lifetime Achievement Award Winner.
