- F ounde r, Pri mi Di e ci Soci e ty; Author, Pri mi Di e ci B ooks

My original intention was to simply have an annual book where I collected the life stories and professional achievements of the most successful Italians and Italian-Americans currently living and working in the US. But as anyone knows, in the US you are not “allowed” to stay small! It was the year 2011 when I founded PrimiDieci Society and it soon became so praised that it was offered also to be celebrated with an annual Awards Gala in Manhattan, New York. After three years of success in the US, in 2014 it was lucky enough also to meet the interest in the UK, thanks to the involvement of Benito Fiore, Chairman Eni and Montedison from the ‘70s to the ‘90s for Canada, USA, UK and Director of A.T. Kearney in London until 2016. Thanks to his passionate involvement PrimiDieciUK was founded and today, with this first edition we are celebrating the ten most remarkable Italians who in the UK (and not only) are being greatly successful, both as professionals and as human beings. So thank you allfor entrusting this initiative. And now, let’s enjoy the evening. Let’s enjoy our 1 st Annual Awards Gala Dinner in London, UK! Riccardo

Benito Fiore - Chai rman, Pri mi Di e ci U K I met Riccardo Lo Faro in 2001 in New York and we soon began sharing the same idea: ‘exporting’ this valuable initiative to London, the other great city where many Italians have been able to enhance their talent with outstanding success in all professional sectors. Riccardo required my involvement and offered me the role of Chairman UK, honorary assignment I gladly accepted being convinced of the relevance of the project. And here we are at the launch of the first edition in the UK. The Selection Committee of the UK, under the chairmanship of Ambassador Pasquale Terracciano, in 2016 proceeded to the selection of PrimiDieci UK and the book will be presented tonight here at BAFTA Piccadilly 195. Many Italians stand out for their great genius and talent in the UK, which assures us a long sequel of this project. An aspect that makes me personally very happy, having chosen London as my adopted city (I have lived here for 28 years)! I therefore wish a long life to PrimiDieci UK ! Benito

PrimiDieci UK 2016 honoured to present…

Lampo, the wood carver. “Lampo”, born Mauro Olivotto, has been carving wood for the past thirty years. Lampo’s expert hands create interesting, original shapes such as the bizarre “Giauli”, an imaginary population of gnomic beings that stem from his love for the mountains surrounding his hometown. To his not-so-much fantasy this is a story that began millions of years ago in the Dolomites and continues to this day and it didn’t just remain a fantasy. He wrote a brilliant book of it “La Terra dei Giauli”, today a widespread editorial success among children of all ages and adults that have now also caught Disney’s attention. When Lampo talks about the Dolomites and their legendary original inhabitants, the gnome-like Giauli, you will repeatedly hear the word “amore“ and see him tear up. The sculptor simply loves his homeland, the Dolomites, where he grew up, and has climbed ev ery mountain in the region. He feels “Amore!“ for Cortina and when he has been out and about in the world - last y ear he travelled to Bolivia and Peru, for example - he is always glad to get back home, full of inspiration which he can then allow to flow into his work. “I was lucky enough to be born in paradise“, he says and, and as he speaks, he makes auspicious gestures in the direction of the sky. He calls the mountains his teachers: “Everything looks smaller and less significant from the summit of a mountain“; he was born “with a view of a sheer rock face“ and if he could not see the Pelmo – at just 3,200 meters one of the highest mountains in the Dolomites – he would die, he says with a theatrical gesture but probably without exaggeration. credits: ItalianWays.com; Best of the Alps.com
