Man, these sales are hot! I don’t know where all you have been – or been watching – but this has surely been an exciting fall for livestock sales, explosive even in some cases. From coast to coast and border to border, the events I have been attending have been strong and active. It’s not so much the extreme high prices that matter to me when gauging a market, but rather the quantity of people involved, the bidding action, and then the eventual prices paid for the rank-andfile stock - the market makers. They’re the ones that matter when it comes to deciding whether to hedge or push, to buy or sell. Well, it’s time to push if you’re in the cow business as it feels like we’re just scratching the surface. On a different branch of the same tree that also teaches us some things about people’s moods, we really blew some folks hair back at the fall race horse sales – I mean really! I had the pleasure of working again with
lasting auction leaders like EC Larkin, Danny Green, Mike Stanfield, Don Birk, and more. Plus this year we added our own Ohio leader, Kevin Wendt, to the mix and we proceeded to break records for average prices and gross at every auction session. You read that right; every session - 10 times! There is no better time to be in Lexington, KY, than October and it seems like, for now at least, there is no better time to be in the race horse breeding business. The rising tide lifts all boats it appears, because everywhere you look markets are jumping. Corn, beans, cotton, cows, oil, gas…I remember what cows cost last time we had high priced oil and gas. Do you? Buy. Sell. Be Happy.
