The pack includes some background informa-on about the federa-on, informa-on about the applica-on process and the job descrip-on. The Federa-on Early Years Leader role covers all schools in the Federa-on including the Teaching School. The Federa-on Early Years Leader works alongside school leaders to provide leadership and co-ordinate the work of school based EYFS leaders to ensure the best quality provision in our schools. The role provides training, support, monitoring and quality assurance including modera-on of assessments. The Federa-on Early Years Leader is required to work across the Federa-on and foster appropriate links between the schools. The Federa-on Early Years Leader may be required to teach in classes across the schools and provide a model of good prac-ce for teachers. They may be required to adapt and change plans at short no-ce. The Federa-on Early Years Leader is required to be flexible in a constantly changing work environment and in implemen-ng the School’s policies.

Our Background Our schools gain significant benefits from working collabora-vely, we strongly believe that schools can achieve more by working together. We have made a commitment to a shared responsibility to the wider educa-on community, the provision of a high quality educa-on and the improvement of life chances for pupils in the community beyond that of our own schools. Our journey started in 2000 when St John and St James CE Primary School opened as a Fresh Start School. Since then we have worked alongside many different schools in Hackney, across London and in many different parts of the country and have grown into a Federa-on of eight schools. We work collabora-vely towards a shared vision and agreed commitments but our schools are individual, serving the needs of different communi-es in crea-ve and innova-ve ways


Our Commitments


Primary Advantage Teaching Schools Teaching schools are outstanding schools that work with others to provide high-quality training and development to new and experienced staff. They are part of the government’s plan to give schools a central role in raising standards by developing a self-improving and sustainable school-led system. St John and St James, Holy Trinity and Springfield are designated teaching schools, working in collabora-on with the other five schools in the federa-on. The schools work in partnership with primary schools across the borough and beyond and play a key role within the Primary Advantage Na-onal Teaching Schools Alliance. Our work on improving provision for children will con-nue to see us working in partnership with schools in Hackney, across London and beyond. We will be working closely with our strategic partners; The Ins-tute of Educa-on and Hackney Learning Trust, to effec-vely deliver Ini-al Teacher Training (School direct and PGCE), Con-nuous Professional Development, talent management, school to school support, the brokering of Specialist Leaders of Educa-on and research and development. Support the Headteachers and Governing Board in establishing a vision for the future of the EYFS. Effec-vely manage du-es and responsibili-es across the federated schools. Assist the Headteachers and Execu-ve Principal in the whole school self-evalua-on processes. Undertake responsibility for the selec-on of resources (including those related to ICT) for the areas of responsibility, accoun-ng to the Execu-ve Principal for the expenditure of the delegated budget alloca-on for the subject. Assist the Headteachers in leading their schools through strategic planning and the formula-on of policy for EYFS. Assist the Headteachers and Execu-ve Principal in the performance management of staff of all designa-ons. Lead whole school policy change in EYFS by modelling and suppor-ng colleagues with direct proven impact. With the Headteachers, ensure that their schools meet the statutory requirements for EYFS including those for safeguarding. Through lesson observa-ons and use of EYFS data, hold EYFS teams to account for the quality of provision in EYFS. Work flexibly to assist the smooth day to day management of the schools where required, working closely with staff of all designa-ons.

Teaching and Learning • •

Play a leading role in ensuring that the quality of teaching and provision in EYFS is good or beeer. Teach in classes across the federated schools, providing targeted interven-on for pupils, PPA cover for teachers and other cover if required, demonstra-ng excellence in professional classroom prac-ce.

Assist the Headteachers and Execu-ve Principal in monitoring and reviewing the quality of teaching and learning including assessment, recording, and repor-ng pupils’ aeainment to all statutory bodies. Undertake professional training for all aspects of school leadership and management and keep up to date with new ini-a-ves across the curriculum. Be an excellent role model, exemplifying a high standard of EYFS provision, and promo-ng high expecta-ons for all members of the EYFS community, with proven impact on pupil progress. Work with Headteachers and EYFS Leaders to raise standards in EYFS. Lead on development of ac-on plans for EYFS staff. With the Headteachers, be responsible for implemen-ng robust systems for monitoring and evalua-ng outcomes in EYFS.

Lead the Federa-on’s modera-on arrangements ensuring consistency across the federa-on

Training and Development • Develop Primary Advantage’s approach to iden-fica-on and management of risk including maintaining risk registers. • Advise other staff including NQTs and students on teaching prac-ce, and to lead inset for staff and governors when required to do so. • Work closely with the Heads of School to ensure an appropriate programme of professional development for all EYFS staff, to ensure improved outcomes. • Contribute to the work of the teaching school delivering training, school to school support and contribu-ng to the development of the teaching school func-ons.

Maintain good communica-ons between staff of all designa-ons. Play a significant part in promo-ng and facilita-ng good rela-onships with parents and other agencies. Work pro-ac-vely with outside agencies, community organisa-ons, the churches of the federated schools and other schools and promote the sharing of good prac-ce Maintain a posi-ve school ethos, be pro-ac-ve in the pastoral care of pupils and ensure the schools’ policies for behaviour and discipline are applied consistently and fairly by staff of all designa-ons. Support and encourage all staff at the school to find and use opportuni-es to support and development of the whole child through spiritual, moral, social and cultural ac-vi-es. Work with the Hackney Learning Trust (Hackney LA) on local and na-onal ini-a-ves. Ensure the health, safety and welfare of pupils and staff in EYFS.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This is not an exhaus-ve list of du-es and responsibili-es, and the post holder may be required to undertake other du-es that fall within the grade of the job, in discussion with the manager.
