The Theatre of Shame

Digital fotocollage / pigmenttrykk på papir 60 x 60 cm «The Theatre of Shame» is a series of digitally deconstructed self portraits where the artist discusses the subject of shame, taking his own personal life story as a Christian homosexual as the vantage point for the artworks. As a part of society, it is easy to inherit society’s prejudices, even if the prejudices are against our own sub group. In these works of art, the artist discusses the hidden shame this creates – the deep, subconscious shame that says: «I am not good enough, I am ugly, I do not fit in, I am all wrong.» In the works, the artist uses his own body as the artistic raw material. This does not only symbolize the private vulnerability inherit in shame, but its universal, human side as well. Images from this series have been exhibited in Berlin, London, Edinburgh and Malmö, and have been published in several international publications, such as Advocate, Männer, Mascular and Out&About.
