His achievements include gold and silver medals in the 2008/2009 Elite Circuit Series and wins in the Premier Calendar, the Otley Crit and an individual win in the Tour Series in 2009. Riding for the Rapha Condor Sharp team he is a compact sprinter and finisher and a popular member of the team and on the circuit. Originally Graham came into cycling through cyclo-cross before incorporating road racing into his disciplines.

Matt Cronshaw Matt is 22 years old, hails from Lancaster and rides for Team Raleigh having previously been a member of the Rapha Condor Sharp team. He is a previous winner of the Blackpool Grand Prix in 2009. In the first race of the 2011 Premier Calendar series he took first place in the Tour of Doon Hame. The three day event over 265 miles of racing takes place in Dunfries and Galloway. Matt was able to sprint away from the field with 500 metres to go winning by two bike lengths. This proved a springboard to an overall second placing in a strong field.

Ian Bibby A return home for 24 year old Prestonian Ian, a member of the Motorpoint team. Ian has excelled at Cyclo- Cross having won the national title four times in 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2010. Ian has now emerged as an exciting young talent on the national road racing scene. 2010 was really the year of his emergence achieving great results and winning a couple of Tour Series events at Portsmouth and Stoke-on-Trent along the way. Ian has been lined up as one of the leaders of the Motorpoint team for the 2011 season.

Dean Downing ‘Deano’ has been riding for the Rapha Condor (Sharp) team since 2007 with many notable road racing wins under his belt. He started off his career at the age of eight with a focus on grass track and then added into his disciplines scratch racing in which he won the national scratch title four times. Dean took first place at the Lincoln Grand Prix. This year has seen him take first place in the 1st stage of the 148km An Post Ras.

Pro Team Focus: Rapha Condor Sharp 2011 is the fifth consecutive season for the team who ride in all black. In last year’s Preston GP Rapha Condor Sharp riders Kristian House and Dean Windsor broke away from the peleton early in the race to secure an exciting first and second place finish. They will undoubtedly be the team to watch again this year even without the retired Chris Newton a medal winner at the last three Olympic Games. The riders: t Graham Briggs t Ed Clancy t Dan Craven t Zak Dempster t Dean Downing, t Ben Greenwood t Kristian House t Jamie McCallum t Casey Munro t Tom Southam t Andy Tennant t Jonathan Tiernan Locke t Dean Windsor t Directeur Sportif – John Herety

Cyclo-Cross is back in the park. September the 18th sees the return of Red Rose Olympics Cyclo-Cross Sunday, building on the success of last year Avenham Park plays host to one of the most exciting sporting spectacles of the year. It’s also one the easiest branches of cycle sport to get involved in and one of the most enjoyable where virtual beginners can find themselves racing against national champions. The racing programme has a relaxed, family friendly, informal atmosphere, there are races for all age categories and entries will be taken on the day. It’s also fantastic for spectators as you can see the whole race as it unfolds in front of you!

Cyclo-Cross, What is it? Cyclo-Cross races are multi-lap events, held on short (typically less than a mile), grassy courses, generally in public parks such as Avenham. Less technically demanding than Mountain Biking, Cyclo-Cross often requires riders to dismount to clear obstacles with the ability to swap smoothly and quickly from riding to running and back to riding in one fluid motion, which is a key skill for advanced riders. There are separate races for under 12’s and youth Under 16 riders with the main event seeing well over 100 riders tackling the grassy climbs of the park. A not to be missed event whether you are an experienced cyclist, dusting down the old steed to make a return to fitness or if you just want to watch a fantastic exciting spectacle of sport – get down to Avenham on the 18th of September the action starts from 11.00am!

Programme of events Race 1 - 11:00am Youth Race (Under 16 full course 30 minutes plus 1 lap, £6 entry) Race 2 - 12.:00 noon Under 12's (Short course 15 minutes plus 1 lap, Free to enter) Race 3 - 1:00pm Juniors, Women, Seniors, Veterans (full course 60 minutes plus 1 lap, £12 entry)

Please Note: Races will require a British Cycling Racing Licence. For details of how to get a full race licence and how to become a British Cycling Member go to britishcycling.org.uk or call 0161 274 2070. If you don’t have a full licence Special day race licences can be purchased from Race HQ at the pavilion where all competitors will need to sign-on. Further race day details will be posted on the Red Rose Olympic website plus a short video from last year’s race at www.redroseolympic.co.uk Free British Cycling membership is available for the first year for all new members of Red Rose Olympic and at a cost of just £5 per year to join Red Rose it makes sense to support your local club.
