County fair set Sept. 10-15 The 2018 Crawford County Fair is set for Sept. 10-15 at Kirksey Park in Mulberry with music, food and activities for all ages. Admission to the fair is $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 5-12 and free for children under age 5 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Wednesday offers free fair entry with one canned food item. The fair will feature a rodeo, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m. Admission on Friday is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. A week-long pass is available for $12. Fair events kick off unofficially on Saturday, Sept. 8, with a horse exposition and pet show. Beginning at 9 a.m., exposition events include miniature horse jumping, barrel racing and horsemanship. The pet show is at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, will have the rabbit show at 5 p.m. The Home Economics and Horticulture Building will be open from 1:30 to 7 p.m. only to receive entries. Also on Monday at 7 p.m. is the first day of the Mutton Bustin’ contest for kids 7 and under. County fair activities get into full swing on Tuesday. The home economics building will be open from 3 to 9 p.m., and the commercial building and food booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Agriculture events include a broiler chicken show at 9 a.m., and market

lambs, market goats and breeding sheep show at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 is the second day of the Mutton Bustin’ contest at 7 p.m., and fair pageants for the tiny tot, wee princess and tiny princess categories also are at 7 p.m. Tuesday is the first night of the carnival, which opens each weekday at 4 p.m. and noon on Saturday. Arm band days are Wednesday and Thursday 6-10 p.m. and Saturday noon-4 p.m. Home economics, horticulture and commercial buildings are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A steer, beef, hogs and bottle calf show is at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Thursday, Sept. 13, has the dairy cattle show at 4 p.m. and goat shows at 5 p.m. The junior princess, little miss and junior miss pageants will be at 7 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 14, agriculture events include a skill-a-thon at 3 p.m., round robin showmanship at 5:30 p.m., poultry showmanship at 6:30 p.m. and an adult showmanship contest at 8 p.m. A goldfish contest is set for 7 p.m. in the barn arena of the fair grounds. Categories are best decorated container and best goldfish. Entries will be accepted from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. is the Cowboys Regional Rodeo Association (CRRA) rodeo. Fair events will conclude Saturday,

Sept. 15, starting with the Crawford County Fair Parade at 11 a.m. in downtown Mulberry. The 4-H poultry chain sale is at 2 p.m. The livestock section of the fair culminates with a barbecue for prospective

auction buyers at 3 p.m., and the Junior Livestock Auction at 4 p.m. At 7 p.m. is the youth talent show and the princess pageant, with the Miss Teen Crawford County and the Crawford County Queen pageants at 8:30 p.m.

Entries in the home economics division to be accepted Sept. 10 The Crawford County Fair will take entries on Monday, Sept. 10, in the home economics building at Kirksey Park in Mulberry. Entries do not have to be pre-registered, according to Twila King, superintendent of the Home Economics Division. However, educational booths and creative table setting entries must have been pre-registered by Sept. 1, she said. “We will open our doors to the public for entering exhibits at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 and close at 7 p.m.,” King said. “We hope to see lots of entries, so load up and come to the fair.” On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the home economics building will be closed to the public until judging is finished. Only workers and judges will be allowed in the building at this time. “We plan to reopen the building at 3 p.m. and will remain open until 9 p.m. on Each year, volunteers from all over the area gather to prepare the fairgrounds at Kirksey Park in Mulberry for the Crawford County Fair.

Pageants, talent show set

Fair events will conclude Saturday, Sept. 15, starting with the Crawford County Fair Parade at 11 a.m. in downtown Mulberry.

The Crawford County Fair Association will host its annual pageants Sept. 11, 12, 13 and 15 at Kirksey Park in Mulberry. All contestants must be a resident or attend school in Crawford County at least one year prior to the pageant. Eleven pageant divisions will be held this year, including Tiny Tot division for ages 0-11 months, Wee Princess division for ages 1-2 years, Tiny Princess for ages 3-4, Princess for ages 5-6, Junior Princess for ages 7-8, Little Miss for ages 9-10, Junior Miss for ages 11-12, teen division for ages 13-16 and queen division for ages 17-21. New this year will be the Ms. division for ages 35-55 and returning will be the senior division for ages 56-75. The winners of the teen and queen pageants will represent Crawford

County at the Arkansas State Fair pageants in October. University of Arkansas - Fort Smith will award the winner of the queen pageant a $1,500 scholarship. Ms. and senior winners also will be eligible to attend the state fair pageant. The youth talent show will be Sept. 12 at the fairgrounds during the pageant. There will be three age divisions this year - ages 9 and under, 10-15 and 16-21. The categories are vocal solo, vocal group, instrumental solo and variety. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners in each division. Winners from the 10-15 and 16-21 age division will represent Crawford County at the state fair.
