LOIS WAS ABLE TO STAY IN HER OWN HOMETOWN
Lois, center, surrounded by four of her five children.
HOMEGROWN – BECAUSE OF YOU.
ois Manville’s story will warm the hearts of each PVM Foundation donor. Thank you for caring about Lois. Enjoy her story. Harbor Springs sits at the northern tip of Lower Michigan. Lois is a lifelong resident of the area (coming up on 90 years!). She never thought of living anywhere else.
Lois still calls Northern Michigan home.
Her life in Northern Michigan was going as planned. That’s until tragedy hit. Her husband passed suddenly at 35 years old. Sudden illness with limited warning signs – BAM! Her life changed forever. “I was devastated, heartbroken, and very overwhelmed. I had five young children. What was I going to do? Could I survive, would I have to move?” recalls Lois.
2 Your GIVING matters
When retirement age approached, Lois was faced with the harsh reality that living in a senior community in Northern Michigan was out her financial reach.
To support her family, Lois built a secretarial business from scratch. Her company provided just enough to raise her family and pay the bills. There was nothing left for her retirement.
painfully remembers. She considered moving downstate. Lois did something about it. She joined the Hillside Board of Directors. That led to a $1.7 million dollar fundraising campaign to support a rebuild of The Village of Hillside.
When retirement age approached, Lois was faced with the harsh reality that living in a senior community in Northern Michigan was out of her financial reach.
Success! Lois and her fellow residents have a new home (with an elevator!). Thank you donors, for stepping up to donate. Where would good people like Lois be without you? Not in Northern MI. Thank you for caring!
Luckily there was one option. The Village of Hillside in Harbor Springs. “A ray of sunshine! I can still remember getting the call from the administrator. What a day!” Lois proclaimed.

One problem. Well a big problem. A portion of The Village of Hillside does not have elevators. “Climbing stairs with groceries or laundry was really tough, so tough,” Lois

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL VILLAGE
Why you’re needed…
SUPPORT SENIORS – RIGHT IN YOUR OWN COMMUNITY! Help support your local friends and family in your own Village and throughout Michigan!
YOU can give to seniors right in YOUR own community! Give residents the opportunity to help combat isolation and to improve their health by providing activities that would not be possible without YOU! Simple pleasures? Yes. But with only $1,461 each month for rent, prescriptions, food and utilities, it’s something some residents couldn’t afford. Without you, it couldn’t be done. YOUR gift makes a difference to seniors right here, locally, in Michigan!
Because of generous donors like you, residents received assistance to help cover medical bills, glasses, dental care, and much more!
Help PVM Villages raise funds for resident activities and outings, social gatherings, exercise equipment, community gardens, and much more. And...you can help make older adults in your community healthier and help them thrive!
Will you give today?

LEAVING A LEGACY
A CARING SOUL Gene Kleemann
caring soul indeed! Gene cared deeply for older adults, especially those at The Village of East Harbor in Chesterfield Twp. During his lifetime Gene established the Kleemann Help Fund to support residents and staff in their time of need. He also honored his parents with the naming of The Karl & Frieda Kleemann Chapel at East Harbor. Gene passed on December19th. His memorial was in the Kleemann Chapel. Ironically the same place where he was married just a few years earlier (at the young age of 92!). Before his passing, Gene kindly left PVM in his will. His bequest is a gift for future residents, to ensure a bright tomorrow for generations to come. Gene’s life was a blessing to many. PVM is so grateful of his caring nature. His legacy will live on and touch so many. God bless you Gene Kleemann! What is your story of caring? Please consider PVM’s mission with a charitable bequest. Thank you!
Anyone can leave a bequest.

DID YOU KNOW? Falls – What are the costs? I’ve fallen and can’t get up! That TV ad is embedded in my head for good. Sad to say too many older adults have fallen and will not get up. Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for those 65+*. Alarming! Not cancer, not diabetes, not dementia, but falls. PAUL MILLER, PVM FOUNDATION PRESIDENT
Falls are preventable. I reflected on my father wearing flimsy rubber sandals when he fell on the ice, which sent him to the hospital. My dad’s story is not unique; I could list many others, and so could you.

Americans age 65 and older fall each year.*
To make matters worse, falls are hitting your pocket book. $50 Billion – that’s right, BILLION – is the annual cost to the U.S. Health System*. Our state, country and world is aging – FAST. The phrase, “I have fallen and can’t get up,” will only get louder and louder. The Marie Claire Damone Fall Prevention Fund is there to support programs to prevent the ill effects of falls. Because of caring donors like you – PVM is able to focus its efforts on vital issues facing older adults like falls. Thank you,
