BLUE HOSE are unconventional

Blue Hose are unconventional. And at Presbyterian College, that’s the norm. We recognize that

students like you have an assortment of interests that might all differ, that some colleges consider

unconventional. Maybe you enjoy biology and music. Maybe you love history and cancer research. Maybe you love writing and statistical analysis. We aren’t going to force you to pursue only one of your passions. Instead, we make the unconventional conventional by enabling you to follow your many passions through the liberal arts. Such freedom provides you with the opportunity to get the most out of your time as an undergraduate.

RESEARCHER. VET STUDENT. BLUE HOSE. Have you ever thrown a party for an orangutan? Kristen Peagler has. This was just one of the experiences Kristen had as a PC student. She also played as a forward for the women’s soccer team. And her time away from the soccer field was spent in the Richardson and Lassiter science facilities where she conducted research that earned her a national award. Scoring goals, singing “Happy Birthday” to orangutans, and performing research - Unconventional? Not at Presbyterian College.

What Makes PC Unique PC is unique in that all of the professors are very accessible and want to help you. It is more than just a job that they have to do. You will find them eating lunch with students, attending many of the sporting events, and even sharing their cell numbers in case students have questions during a lab or assignment.

My Favorite PC Memory My favorite PC memory is being a part of Dr. Buckland’s Music of the World's Cultures class. I grew up playing the trombone and piano, so this class allowed me to reconnect with my musical roots. Plus, it put a unique twist on a music class, teaching us about the various music and instruments that exist around the world.

How PC Helped Me Stand Out PC provided me with opportunities that I wouldn’t have been able to experience elsewhere. I was able to do quality research with fantastic biology professors. Plus, I had plenty of opportunities to diversify my experience with animals, including working at Thornwell Farm, interning with Greenville Zoo, and volunteering at a therapeutic horseback riding facility. All these experiences helped strengthen my vet school applications.

"The education I received at PC is second to none. The rigor of the courses combined with the mentoring by my professors prepared me to succeed in veterinary school and in life." Kristen Peagler '17 University of Georgia

BLUE HOSE are adventurous

Learning shouldn't occur only in the classroom. An adventure can be a great learning experience. Blue Hose don’t just read about the architecture of English cathedrals. They travel to London and step foot into Westminster Abbey to see its Gothic arches with their own eyes. Blue Hose don’t just read about the field of prosthetic limbs. They collaborate with a professor and create a prosthetic arm. Blue Hose don’t just read

NASA RESEARCHER. MATHEMATICIAN. BLUE HOSE. Clay’s journey to NASA research didn’t begin with dreams of becoming an astronaut. It started with Legos and their limitless possibilities. Clay’s natural curiosity, paired with a love for mathematics, is what brought him to PC where he was introduced to research by Dr. Eli Owens. Together, Clay and Dr. Owens created a research proposal, and NASA accepted that proposal. We bet you’ll never look at Legos the same way again.

How PC Challenges Me Believe it or not, some of my favorite classes have been in the English Department, which is outside of my major. My English professors challenged me through literature to think more critically and to develop my thoughts about life.

How PC Helps Me Stand Out PC’s liberal arts curriculum has allowed me to build a diverse academic foundation that I would not have received elsewhere. My experiences here have developed my ability to solve problems, while also teaching me how to communicate ideas.

My Most Rewarding Experiences I’ve participated in service projects through my fraternity, the Palmetto Equestrian Therapeutic Riding Program, and the CHAMPS program. Also, I had the opportunity to tutor students in the community. Helping them see the value in math and science is an experience that I hope to continue throughout my career.

BLUE HOSE are unmistakable

Four years at Presbyterian College are transformative. Blue Hose leave the College’s oak-lined plazas with confidence because they remember. They remember the lessons learned on the front steps of Neville Hall. They remember the leadership opportunities the Honor Council and Greek life provided. It’s not just the color of our graduates’ socks that makes them stand out. It’s these formative experiences that enable Blue Hose to be different, to stand out from the crowd.
