In 1994 the first natural, plant-based products were created from Ali’s home kitchen. Tucked away near Hidden Valley, a special place behind the dunes of Cable Beach, a deep exploration of gentle, plantbased skin care and aroma began.

Ali had always loved the power and beauty of plants and wanted to create a “path with heart”. Now with children at school Ali began researching and experimenting with making natural soaps, candles and lotions which didn’t irritate her sensitive skin. She wanted to reflect the untamed beauty of Broome and the wild Kimberley in her soaps, and spent many hours learning to craft these well, using traditional methods. Supported by her partner Smokey, the business was set up in 1995 to sell at the newly formed Broome Courthouse markets.

From a self-taught interest in essential oils and the powerful healing properties of plants Hidden Valley grew into one of Broome’s most iconic businesses.

Thirty years on it’s a modern and ethical E-commerce business operated by a dedicated team who still produce, package, and label all products in small batches in a dedicated facility at Harriet Road. Every product is created lovingly by hand.

Brightly coloured and aromatic handmade soaps and soy candles, reflecting the colours and spirit of the wild Kimberley remain core products. They make meaningful gifts, always appreciated. Using high quality plant ingredients Hidden Valley’s skincare range and pure essential oil blends are now the fastest growing lines. The apothecary range proudly hosts a range of powerfully effective creams such as ‘Achy Breaky’ for bruises and sore joints, ‘Healing Cream’ - an all-purpose healer for minor skin ailments, ‘Pest Off’ to prevent insect bites and the ever popular ‘Midgie Magic’ ointment to soothe insect bites – tried and tested by Broome locals for 30 years!

Catering for all skin types, bodies, all ages and with no nasties, products make their way all over Australia carrying the love, the magic and the spirit of Broome.
